Right, that's what it felt like, a last chance to start moving things in a slightly better direction. But the Democratic Party is NOT rudderless, they exist to protect the economic status quo from the people and they have done that job (and ONLY that job) well. In other words, they are at base a right wing reactionary political party, and they have been for 30 some years now, but in the US we call that "centrist" for some reason.

Agreed. Even if we can point to individual pro-worker, progressive policies Harris put forth, she wasn't proposing them within a coherent narrative that makes it easy for apolitical people devoid of values (like Rogan and his listeners) to follow. It's why Bernie can absolutely crush these programs - because the policy-specific quibbles that corporate Dems put forth are easily pushed aside when you can say "We're the richest nation in the world, we will find a way to pay for these basic goods that workers deserve" - and why Kamala struggled in 2024 just like she did in 2020. Some good ideas, but no mission, no narrative, nothing to latch onto.

US Child poverty has recently doubled.
It takes profound insights, and follow through. Decisive action and courage. Roosevelt understood the American Oligarchy.
Biden needed to take example from Roosevelt who knew this --- *feeling is a significant factor in any nation.*
That's the reason several weeks before the re-election, Roosevelt made sure to flow additional funds to the American people to overcome money hardships.
He knew stabilizing a country takes time to kick in, yet people trying to survive daily had real needs in the present.

I don’t disagree though. I’m a childfree by choicer and I hate saying it but my life actually *was* better during the pandemic when hiring was up and remote was normalized. The last two years have been a nightmare for me as far as feels.
It sucks to have the lingering background feels of “shit could get even worse” all the time while it feels like the people you had hope for aren’t really working to help you.
I know that’s a very anectodatal, personal “me” thing but I think that’s what you’re speaking to with the feels. It didn’t feel like anything was actually getting better.

I don’t know why it’s so difficult for them to admit that not focusing on working class people in favor of chasing republican suburbanites has been a failure. And I don’t understand why they can’t admit that allowing republicans to dominate the narrative on issues instead of creating their own has hurt the party. It’s fascinating that Sam still has his head in the sand about the woke stuff. He is among the idiotic Democrat masses who believe Kamala didn’t run on woke. He thinks she did a brilliant job avoiding the issue. He doesn’t get that if she just avoids the issue, then everything she has been known to stand for, and everything her party stands for, is rightly ascribed to her. She did nothing to distance herself from woke politics, and so she owned them. Sam’s inability to understand this, an inability he shares with so many other leftist pundits, bodes well for the right’s continuing political wins.

Great conversation, but I think you did not stress how much calling voters names (racist, homophobic, misogynistic, and/or fascist) because they don’t agree with the entire coalition was a MASSIVE MISTAKE. Voters are adults with nuanced ideas who can empathize with migrants here to build a better life but want to know who is in the country and for them to be here legally. Also to say crime is down when we can see with their own eyes it’s not, just shows how out of touch they are with reality. Stores are not locking up the goods they want customers to buy because it good customer service. Statistics can be used and misused. To have a crime statistic you need a conviction or plea bargain. I live in CA which was not prosecuting thefts for items totaling just under $1,000. If the DA is not going to prosecute why would a store bother to call the police & even if they did the DAs are not prosecuting the person unless it was serious enough. Does that mean there was no victim or a crime did not happen? IN A TWO PARTY SYSTEM WE NEED BOTH PARTIES TO BALANCE (NOT CANCEL) EACH OTHER OUT. Voters have seen both sides be obstructionist when the other party is in power and basically dig in and make sure nothing gets done. Voters don’t have that option at work and don’t want the politicians to do it either. We want to see compromise and real problems be addressed.

To say the party is rudderless because of this worldwide rejection of incumbents (narrowest margin in the world) would demonstrate an ignorance of the current political situation. That said, the flaw in Dems strategy has been changing but not fast enough. It's not about progressive or not. It's about rejecting this oligarchy completely and embrace working people. Dems cannot survive pleasing both groups.
