    I use Chief Products "Sump Protection Plate," "Lower Front Guard," and Transmission Protection Plate" on my 2015 WK2 4x4 EcoDiesel w/ Offroad Adventure II Pkg and Quadralift. (plus Mopar Rock Sliders that protrude out from the sides about 4" -- great for pivoting around tree trunks). My next mod will likely be the Chief Products Hidden Winch Plate. On top I use Yakima Roof Bars (round) with an extension on the front passenger side so that I can load/unload my 18' canoe by myself while out hunting and fishing in Northern Michigan. Chief Products are great. Bill and Samantha Mackin (in Australia) are the original owners, and they have personally addressed many questions I have had, and warranty issues I had with my original Sump Protection Plate. I DEFINITELY recommend Chief Products! Bill is originally from Michigan!

    Thanks for the video. I just installed my Chief rack and have been happy so far - easy install once I realized “driver side” is opposite on the Aussie instructions 🤦‍♂️😂

    Great Video! As someone who has owned the Gobi Stealth rack for just over a year, I couldn't agree more with your Pros and Cons. Some of my pros and cons are:
    Pros:
    The platform allows for standing, sitting, sunsets!!!, Ladder, Visual appearance, Tent mounting is rather simple, sunroof insert, space on the roof for low profile storage is fantastic. For example, I placed my shovel and Axe under the rooftop tent and kept it down with short extra-strength bungee's. Ladder allows some minor clip-on storage, including a self-made fuel tank holder.
    Cons:
    Nightmare of a company to deal with (experiences may vary... lol). Expensive for both the roof rack and attachments... seriously, some of the attachment prices are laughable. The lead time is incredibly long and can run many months over what is expected. The wind deflector has caused some minor paint damage to the crown. As mentioned in the video, good luck storing this thing; it's rather large and comes in a massive piece.

      Like you said, I actually had a pretty good customer service experience! There aren’t a ton of options for these Jeeps but there’s really no one size fits all. Just depends on what your preferences/uses are!

    Good information. Most of those kinda defeat the purpose of the sunroof but tradeoffs I guess.

    What other type of tie down plate can you use other than chief? I tried ordering and those plates are expensive and on back order.

    Do you have a photo of how the tent mounted into the chief rack?

    • @venturethe3955
      @venturethe3955  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I do not. It’s the same method as attaching to crossbars but with specific mounting brackets. A different tent may be in the future though!

    How do you like the hitch mounted tire move? Any issues with hatch access?

  • @Mr_AlterEagle

    Thanks for the video, very useful.
    I've seen that in some scenes (09:07) your tyres were not all terrain. How capable is wk2 with normal tyres off road? And in what type of terrains do you dare to go off-road with normal tyres?
    Also there are quite a few people online saying that a rooftop tent on the wk2 is a big no, do to the manufacturer's 60kg load limit. Some of them said that eventually they've ruined their roofs because of these tents. Have you noticed any issues?

    • @venturethe3955
      @venturethe3955  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My tires are all terrain but have been varying sizes/brands. It's a pretty capable vehicle overall. I don't usually question it as long as the trail looks big enough and it's not on a snowy ledge. As far as the tent goes, as long as you get a rack that is rated for those loads, I haven't had an issue, but again these tents with occupants definitely put the weight over the manufacturer stated rating.

    Nice build. IS the rear wheel swing out a chief product? Also, you mentioned an accessory battery mounted in wheel well; how do you maintain the charge? Thanks.

    • @venturethe3955
      @venturethe3955  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! And no the one I had mounted on was from Wilco off-road. I wired the battery up in parallel to the starter. Paired with a smart isolator, so it charges while we drive.

    I’m looking to add a roof rack specifically to transport a surfboard (8’2”) or 2. Would the “Bare Bones” version of the Chief rack be the way to go, or perhaps the “Overland”? I have the pano roof and the Jeep is also my DD… want a relatively clean design.

    • @GeecheeQ
      @GeecheeQ ปีที่แล้ว

      What did you end up going with?

    • @billfrigo7602
      @billfrigo7602 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GeecheeQ - It's annoying when people don't answer simple questions in a timely manner, right? :) ..... I went with a Cheif products 'bare bones' with the two (2) cross bars positioned in a way that doesn't interrupt the pano roof at all (since there is a supporting member that runs across the pano roof on the inside of the Jeep). It's perfect for transporting surfboards: any additional bars would be a pain in the as$ to tie them down and block the pano roof. Eventually, I'm going to mount a portable shower to the roof rack for showering at beaches and rinsing my boards off.

    Hello Dave, Please let us know about the bike rack (brand) and how it attaches to the Wilco Tire Carrier. How does it handle the bikes hanging way out back and off road bouncing around? Does it affect your departure angle? Thanks! Love the pitties. I had two, recently lost one but still have our Lola!

    • @venturethe3955
      @venturethe3955  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Christopher -- Apologies on the late reply. I have a 1up USA rack. I ended up getting a hitch extension for it for the Wilco and had a hitch receiver welded on to make it work. I ended up switching away from the swing out and just had the bike rack fixed to the factory receiver without an extension. I found that with the extension, it ended up coming loose on the bumpy trails and wobbling quite a bit.

      Hello - the tents come in varying sizes but as long as it doesn't extend too far past the roof rack and is within the load ratings, you should be okay!

    • @venturethe3955
      @venturethe3955  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to hear it! I haven't had any issues with the hatch hitting the rack even with the ladder on, but I only have the planks on with the end caps - not the full rack

    do you think my altitude is off road able? or should i upgrade wouldnt be able to for a 3 years tho

    • @venturethe3955
      @venturethe3955  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely. Depends on if you have the 4x4 model and the difficulty of the trail but a lot of places are still accessible by forest road which don't usually require a ton of true off-roading. Just drive within your comfort limits and even better if you have a second car with you. I did a lot of moderate trails with the stock 4x4 system and tires.

    It would be awesome if these companies could come back down to the real world in terms of price. Roof racks and RTTs have become ridiculous as of late.

    • @venturethe3955
      @venturethe3955  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're definitely expensive! I found that for the amount of time and engineering that goes into them, they all seem to be in the same price range. The Gobi is definitely more expensive than others. Certain loads can just be carried with crossbars, others need a full rack. Depends on what you'll be using for!
