Might try using one of the adjustable "telescopic" luggage bars for holding the rails out. Harbor freight has them for around 15 bucks. They have a ratcheting squeeze handle like a caulk gun to push out against inside of truck bed to hold loads from sliding and can apply around 75lbs of force. So I can see where it would help push the load bearing rails out like you were explaining around 5:30 to 5:50 in video.
I highly recommend the Chief Products rack as well. You mention the antenna and the signal, I will say with a roof top tent it does interfere with the signal even if it isn't fully covering it. I recommend putting the mounting things on the rails first before you put them up on the roof but keep them a little loose like Brad says then tighten after you get it on.
I will let anyone know, and this isn't specific to the Chief's rack but it is a pain in the ass to mount the RTT to the rack. It's hard to get to the nuts that go on your RTT that hold it on planks.
Don't worry Brad everyone has the same pains you had when installing. I will say the less planks the easier it is to tighten all the things you were complaining about.

My room rack makes a weird noise when I go from 40-50, it's so annoying and loud. I have no had food customer service with them. It's a bad ass rack though. Love it!
Significant rumble low velocity noise on mine which I'm trying to tune out with a damn.

Incomplete packaging for parts but Driver Mods ( Louie ) has been real quick to get me what's missing.

Holy cow, I’ve had a Gobi rack on order since last May based on your use. Why did you change?
What caused those wear marks?
No. We love the Gobi. Chief Products actually gave us this rack to try out. Thought it would be good to compare the two racks for those interested in getting a roof rack. You won’t be disappointed with the Gobi rack.

I had the same reaction! Still waiting on my gobi rack from April that I ordered based on these videos. Was getting concerned I made the wrong choice.
Hey Brad! Looking for advise, direction, opinions! Since you e had both the GOBI and now Chief, what’s your preference? Pros/Cons on them. What do you feel is a better option for your typical uses? Thanks man.
If you are running a roof top tent I would use Chief's rack. Or if you like to have everything with a nice finished out look. If you plan to have different things up on your roof (different set ups) than I would go with Gobi. I loved that I could attach things anywhere I wanted them. It was east with ratchet straps or bungi cords.
@@ProdigalOverland Thanks man. That was kinda my thought process. I’m always swapping out gear like Cargo boxes, kayaks, paddle boards and other random things so I was thinking GOBI also. Appreciate the input.

How much taller does this roof rack make the car? Have a low garage entry and must be careful about the total height of the car.
I am interested in getting this system but I don't know if it will be compatible with a kayak rack. Do you have experience with this?
No with a kayak. What does that entail to mount?
@@ProdigalOverland a Yakima or Thule kayak rack mount. but I'm not sure if the planks are too think for those attachments

@@jimwheeler6094 I think it is slightly smaller, yes. it sits a little further back than the gobi as well so probably not that much smaller
