I've NEVER subscribed to ANY TH-cam videos. I'm a beginner at crocheting. You are the BEST out of all of the descriptions on making a hat. I've never taken the time to try a stitch that I find difficult like this one. I haven't completed my hat, but I will let you know how I did. There're a lot of nevers in my comment, and you are my first! Sorry for the long comment, I just had to tell you THANK YOU!❤❤
What a lovely compliment! Thank you! (Especially since this is an old video with an old camera and poor editing skills!) Glad I had something helpful to share!
Currently making one of these for my boyfriend. Thanks for the clear instructions and the fact that I can measure instead of count stitches. Counting takes the fun out of crocheting for me 😁
First, I think your accent and little comments are so sweet and helpful. It's almost like you're throwing in tips without even thinking about it. Second, I think it's adorable that you act as if you're following someone else's pattern but when you find a mistake, it becomes clear that you wrote it because you fix it. Most people wouldn't be so honest. That's refreshing. Third, I think your pattern is amazingly professional. I downloaded it (all the mistakes are fixed :D) and it looks just like it was printed by a printing press. All in all, well done! Plus, I'm like you: I'd rather measure than count rows and stitches.
This camel stitch pattern is super easy and the way you are explaining in the video , it makes more simpler than usual. I made 4 caps with this pattern which is really slouchy, brim is so stretchy and easy to fit. Thank you for sharing such informational video here. Lots of love 💕
Thank you SOOOO much for going thru the patterns in your videos. I do not know how to read written patterns, but this is helping me so much! I’d love to see more 😁
You're so welcome! I can't say I do that in every tutorial but I try to when possible. Here's my tutorial playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLV9cndFtR5BWJVUc-dQ277A2lhxmm5zvq.html
Praise the Lord! Thank you for sharing this video! 😊 I have a heck of a time following most tutorials, but this one was great. Thank you, thank you!! Started snowing this evening ,made my baby's first hat today, and he looks adorable! 🥰
Thank you Margaret for this tutorial. I haven't crocheted for a number of years and when I did I only did simple stitches. After watching your videos I decided to make hats for all my nieces and nephews for xmas. I found this pattern but wasn't sure how to work it so when I watched your video it was so clear. I really appreciate it.
Oh and I also wanted to thank you for your help with my diet. When I crochet or knit my hands are too busy to snack. Lol down 13 pounds and walk 70 minutes a day. Yippy!
Love your tutorial on the slouchy. I like the way you explain everything and also showing the pattern at the same time you are working the project. Thank you!
This is exactly what I was looking for! My husband has been asking for a slouchy hat for Christmas, and I haven't been able to find one in the shade he wants--now I can go ahead and make one. Thanks so much!
Great tutorial! I'm so slow sometimes!! I didn't realize that was called a camel stitch. I found a pattern a few weeks ago made with this stitch but from the top down, not slouchy, with a slight brim on it. I made 2. While making the first one I didn't think I would like it or that it would fit anyone. With this stitch it has a lot of stretch. So I made another one. My youngest daughter asked for the first one, with fingerless gloves to match. She would take all the hats, scarves etc I make. LOL She lives in Florida. If it ever gets real cold, which is highly unlikely, she'll be warm. But she'll have them when she visits me in Ga.I'm definitely going to try this one. The camel stitch might be my new favorite! Thanks
+Sheri Peeples It IS a great stitch and I forgot to mention how dense and warm it is. So funny that your greatest fan is in FL! Hahaha!, Well, she can be like me and wear warm things in the A/C in the summer. I FREEZE inside!
Excellent video beginner friendly! I liked the way you read the pattern and explained as you went along , Thank you, I will definitely make this hat! I will also subscribe
Love this hat and had to try it. I'm very fussy when I crochet but I got this on the hook the very next day and I'm loving making it. You do very well with tutorials! Thank you 😀
+Sharon Anne Barrett Wow! Very high praise for me! Thank you, Sharon, and I'm so glad you liked it! What do you mean you're fussy when you crochet? Do you find it fussy as in tedious or are you fussy as in frustrated?
Hi Margaret - I've been looking for something different to crochet for the new year and I think this is it. I'm going to make lots of them for donating. Thanks so much for your video - it's awesome!
GREAT JOB! Thanks Margaret! I jumped up, grabbed some yarn, & made it right away! I made a Preemie hat by following most of your instructions & posted it in ravelry.
Fabulous educational tutorial. You are amazing! Thank you so much for sharing your time and talent. I can't wait to crochet this beautiful slouchy hat.
Awesome tutorial!!! You made it easy and clear, with your "logical instructions". If you hadn't clarified the where you were sticking the hook through, I really would have done regular back loop only. YEAH!!!
Thanks for sharing with everyone this is such a nice pattern. Been looking on ravelry and youtube seems like all day and couldn't find the right hat until this. I'm going to try to make this hat with fingering weight yarn since it's mostly what I have that's nice enough.✨
Hey Margaret: I look forward to watching every one of your videos. This hat will become one of my new favorites. I find your videos very informative, but basically, when I watch them. I feel like I'm hanging out with a friend. I live in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and your are right, the cold has finally arrived here. Today was almost unbearably cold! We are wimps here in the South, aren't we? I did a similar hat for friends and family at Christmas. But, I think I like this one better. Happy New Year Margaret. I look forward to hanging out with you this year.
+betty sharp Hey, Neighbor! And "hanging out with a friend" is high praise... thank you! Yes... wimps in the cold but we're tough in the heat! Glad you liked the hat!
Well look at you! I probably wouldn't have recommended this one as a beginner pattern but I'm so impressed that you chose it! Go for it and I'd love to hear how it turns out!
This hat is so adorable! I'm almost finished and a little stumped on the hdc decrease, the one you teach is not the one I learned (kind of a newbie). I guess either way I do it should be ok? PS. I'll post a pic on your fbook page when I'm done. I love listening to your other vlogs while I work.
Yes! Any decrease method you prefer will do the trick. Looking forward to seeing your finished product and thanks for "hanging out with me" while you work! I'm glad I can "hang out with you" through these comments and Facebook group!
Michelle Langley I thought so too , I have been crocheting for a while and seems like such a long time since I made hats , sometimes the tutorials are too fast too slow but I really enjoyed this ! Luckily we are just getting into the coldest weather in Scotland and its hat time again .
I have a question regarding the decreases. The first decrease says 5hdc, hdc2tog , repeat for the round.....do I alternate the 5hdc with the hdc2tog, again and again, or do I do 5hdc just once, then do the hdc2tog and repeat the hdc2tog over and over, till the row is finished? Thank you! This is the first crochet project I've ever done. It's taking me forever with a lot of rip outs but I'm learning and Ive made it this far finally. It's super fun. 🤗💕
This is a hard first project so you're doing GREAT!! "Repeat for the round" means to do that pattern for the whole row (til you get back to your stitch marker.) So you'll do [5hdc followed by hdc2tog] again and again until your reach your stitch marker then do what the next row says over and over again until you complete that row.
@@sheepishlysharing I finished!!! I had a ton of trouble losing it up. Its such a tiny area and the hook it too large. I didnt end it properly. I just made it up as I went. Its ok. Mine feels stiff and doesnt seem as floppy as yours. But im pretty happy with ot and excited I was able to do it. It took me two or three months to finish it, working sporadically. And I probably did the band seven times. Lol. And the closing took three hours of rippimg in and out. Lol. But I did it. Now I need to ,ake a mans beanie for my brother. Margaret, just to let you know MrXboxliveGamers is my son! (LOL) I'm really Denise from Minnesota and I watch your videos all the time. So if you see this again it's actually me.
TY for making this video. Lovely hat! I was just wondering though if you recall the yarn brands and colors of the hat that you have in the instructions? I love them.
Thank you, Tammy! The main part of the hat was Red Heart Unforgettable in "Stained Glass" but the brim was in "Sheepish Yarn" by Bernat which has been discontinued. That's a shame because Red Heart doesn't make a solid color version to go with Unforgettable (its a roving-type yarn on the lighter side) and that Sheepish had a perfect match for all the Unforgettable colorways (and also a roving type yarn in the exact same weight)! Strange that 2 different companies had something that worked so well together but now we'll have to find something else.
Can I do this with a double crochet? But only chain 2? The reason I ask is because slip stitching when always joining I don't quite understand it yet. I get confused. I like your method better.
Yes, you can do this with double crochet but I don't know what you're referring to when you say "but only chain 2." Hat is seamless so there is no chaining 2 after each row. You mention that joining is a bit unclear just now but take heart! Joining is always a bit tricky to figure out when you're getting started so I made this video that I hope can shed a little light on the subject: th-cam.com/video/F4_181ke7AQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=51I4CFZExraI_Uv0 After you get this down, you make like this video regarding the most common form of crochet hat... the top-down method: Troubleshoot Crochet Hat Sizing | Common Mistakes: th-cam.com/video/d4mp6x_5T-k/w-d-xo.html
For the brim of the hat is there a width measurement. I am using 5 bulky weight yarn and was wondering if chaining 12 might make the brim to wide? Never made a brim on a hat before. Thanks for the pattern
Bulky yarn will most definitely change the gauge! However, one of the best features of this hat is that you CAN use what you want because there is no exact stitch count... it's made by measurement. The width on this particular hat is about 2.5-3"
J B I’m using bulky yarn impeccable by loops and threads a H hook size , could u please tell me how many rounds did u crochet before u started decreasing? Thanks
Bobbi, it takes a week or more for me to record and edit a tutorial and I just don’t have that kind of time for special requests right now. Why don’t you look up “how to change colors in crochet” on TH-cam and apply what you learn to this or any hat you like?
Thank u ..I love Camel st. I made blouse withe 3 coulor.u should close the ribbin before starting the hat.. or u will have a gap trust on your experiant only ..sorry I am not write ENG.from along long time..
The hdc2tog, you are doing is not correct? Sorry to say that, but it should be, YO, then insert hook in next loop behind the top V's (for the camel stitch), YO pull through, (3 sts on hook) YO, insert hook into next loop behind the V's, YO pull through (2nd loop), you now should have 5 loops on your hook, now YO and pull through all 5 loops on hook, and now you have a hdc2tog decrease. You are doing yo pull through loop behind v's, you skipped the yo to make the 2nd hdc, went through the loop behind v's, and pulled through 2sts, then pulled through 3sts, that is not how to decrease it, yours is like a decrease of a hdc and dc combined. I'm sorry to bring this to your attention.I love this hat, made one yesterday, and am doing another, had to watch video again as I couldn't down load the pattern, as it was wanting me to change something on my laptop, so didn't do the download, as In the past I've said yes and it messes up my laptop. You have really made some fantastic items, thank you for sharing.
Hmmm... I still beg to differ. There are variations of all crochet stitches that give similar or even the same results! My decreases are even in height across the row and that's the most important thing to me!
Margaret Olander I'm from Tennessee but both parents are from Mississippi. And I have family that's moved to Georgia. I recognized your southern accent which is why I was curious. Most crochet videos I watch the people are from a different country or just have a different accent you're probably the first southern accent I've seen on here
@@sheepishlysharing I was also going to ask about that. You had said you were using an I hook, 5.0mm. But my Clover hook says that their H hook is 5.0mm while their I hook is 5.5mm. I know that you said it doesn't matter in the long run, but do you have a preference between 5.0mm and 5.5mm for this hat?
I've NEVER subscribed to ANY TH-cam videos. I'm a beginner at crocheting. You are the BEST out of all of the descriptions on making a hat. Bulky yarn will most definitely change the gauge! However, one of the best features of this hat is that you CAN use what you want because there is no exact stitch count... it's made by measurement. The width on this particular hat is about 2.5-3"
Thanks, I decided to go down a hook size and the brim is measuring at 3".
J B I’m using bulky yarn impeccable by loops and threads a H hook size , could u please tell me how many rounds did u crochet before u started decreasing? Thanks
A 5MM HOOK IS H..5.5MM IS I! LOVE THE PATTERN!
I'm making a Santa hat!
A festive twist! It should be adorable!
have you any hoody sweater for 12 years boy on this pattern? This pattern really very nice.It would be very comfortable I think.
No, I'm sorry!
OK.Thank you for your reply.
This is marvellous, thank you so much!
I'm so glad you like it! It's a fun one!
please make a new video on this hat but culd u show how u change colors
Bobbi, it takes a week or more for me to record and edit a tutorial and I just don’t have that kind of time for special requests right now. Why don’t you look up “how to change colors in crochet” on TH-cam and apply what you learn to this or any hat you like?
Hi trust u keeping well thanks beautiful pattern tc God bless regards tc God bless regards Sandy Kasi South Africa Kzn Durban 🙏🙏🙌
Thank you
Hi,
I have a bulky yarn. Using 6mm hook, would it be okay to make the beanie?
It should be fine because I teach this hat through measurements as opposed to stitch count!
@@sheepishlysharing thank you so much!
I finished the first part, it looks fabulous so far!
Wish I could show you after the project finished.
Thank u ..I love Camel st. I made blouse withe 3 coulor.u should close the ribbin before starting the hat.. or u will have a gap trust on your experiant only ..sorry I am not write ENG.from along long time..
+أعمال فنية مفضلة Thank you for the kind words! I think I understand what you created and it sounds like a very nice idea! Good thinking!
Beautiful
Thank you! And it's so fun to make!
Beautiful! 😍 Thank you for sharing ! 😘
Glad you liked it, Laura!
AWESOME
urmmm one question, can you sl st for this project? because i want to change 3 colours in my project. it will be uneven
Can you slip stitch? You mean just for changing colors? Sure! I would not try to do an entire slip stitch hat as that provides no stretch.
@@sheepishlysharing okay.. gotcha thank you very much
Very nice; thank you.
You're welcome! Glad you liked it!
love this video
Thank you, DJ! Make something wonderful!
HOLA..MUY PADRE EL VIDEO..ESTARIA BIEN QUE LO HICIERA EN ESPAÑOL..
Tu padre el video? No entiendo.
Are you able to hide the seam
There are no seams in the hat part and you can see what I've done with the band portion.
What size hook are you using? And what yarn?
Well... it’s all in the video...
Thank you so much.
You're so welcome, Betty Jo!
My first time on your videos.. I'm curious as to what state you're from
Welcome, Angela! I'm from Mississippi but I live in Georgia now. Where are you from??
Margaret Olander I'm from Tennessee but both parents are from Mississippi. And I have family that's moved to Georgia. I recognized your southern accent which is why I was curious. Most crochet videos I watch the people are from a different country or just have a different accent you're probably the first southern accent I've seen on here
What's a good beginner knit hat pattern?
+llove3411 Anything in one color, with a simple ribbing and only stockinette stitch at the top because decreases can be tricky.
Which number hook are you used?
As I explained in this video, it doesn’t really matter. The project is sized by measurement not gauge.
@@suebob16 My preference always depends on the yarn I'm using.
I don’t do my hdc decrease that way. I got confused lol
It's just crochet so do them anyway you'd like! My mantra is: There are no rules in crochet!
@@sheepishlysharing you’re right but there are techniques thus the reason for teaching a tutorial and for the purpose of patterns.

Put that knit comment on the wrong video. Sorry. Meant to post on your regular video

You’re welcome!
Hook number?
Explained in video. It doesn’t matter because you sized by measurement.
