"not made of money" *looks at garden* hmmmm
Love garden railways though I'm more a 16mm man. There's something so appealing about seeing a little live steam narrow gauge engine winding round a garden with a rake of slate wagons rattling behind

Beautifully done! Be prepared for a constant battle with the plants, animals and the influence of the weather. My layout lasted 15 years, I finally gave in being tired of getting the trains going again after winter. And those trees dripping resin or whatever it is called. I had several in my garden, it made the trains stop after short while. Even the track cleaning loco wasn't able to tackle that problem. So it takes some careful planning and there are plants and trees that definately will spoil the fun! Kind regards, Willem from Holland.

I’m building one on my farm I’m making all mine from steel I rolled the curves and all the straight sections are oh 1X1 1/8 angle steel the supports are 2X2 1/8 box tubing I have a underground house it has berms on both sides with wing walls so the track will be elevated at minimum one foot tall and the supports will be cut to keep it level they are set in concrete to stop rust all the uprights as they are cut will be dipped in zinc oxide primer using a capped at one end pvc pipe filled with it so it’s coated inside too and hung to dry first getting a good thinner wash to remove any mill oils in the same way . Why steel ? Every one uses wood and no matter how well they prime and paint it it seems to rot in just a short time I don’t want to build it again and a bonus I can mow under it with the push mower I’m going with G gauge I bought a bunch of LGB cheap from a estate sale most of it still unused in the box but for track I will use flex and solder each joint along with a jumper to keep power issues away I am also as I go welding small round stock to the roadbed to make power poles with the hot on it and a drop every so often to keep voltage drop at bay using the old porcelain electric fence insulates on it the neutral will be on the steel work plus I’m grounding it in case of a lightning strike the lay out will be when I am done 100 feet by 25 foot oval once every thing is put together with bolts it will then be welded and given the cleaning bath primed and painted the road bed is just over 3 1/2 inches wide the track is secured with self drilling screws loose to allow for expansion t works out to just 1/4 inch different from brass to steel per 100 feet I was advised by other gardeners to not install points they are just trouble I was told so it’s a single track lay out I might make a vid of mine I know not a lot about doing that I have a small metal fab shop that makes items for the trucking people so I have all the tooling I did though buy a gas powered post hole digger because I’m putting in uprights about every 4 feet on the straights and extra ones on the turns too many to hand dig and a small concrete mixer for the quickcrete mix my other mixer is just too big and tractor mounted for a small job. Hope you have good luck with your lay out. I’m in the USA have a lot of yard or garden as you guys say . The biggest thing I have found is doing all the lay out work to get every thing correctly level !

Greetings from Illinois, USA. It's 2 AM, in my Coronacation having no where to go tomorrow, I'll stay up till 4 and sleep till noon. You have a beautiful garden (or back yard as we would call it) and have given us good advice on building a garden RR. Sitting here with a conversion calculator to translate all the measurements so I can understand the lumber sizes that you are using. Yes, I know, we Americans use English measurements and you in the UK (and the rest of the world) use metric. But that's a subject of discussion for another time. We are taught the conversion tables instead of converting. 2.54 cm = 1 inch. 3.78 ltr = 1 gal. 16.9 oz = 500 ml etc.
I would imagine you will be building this and then expand it as time goes on, adding trestles, a water feature, buildings, a town, etc. Keeping the plants trimmed back away from the track seems to be a never ending job, but that's what makes the layout interesting. Not just a loop out in the open. Looking forward to your next video. When finished, please make a cab view video of your layout. I will be fun when it is finished, but remember- Building it is half the fun. - I'm rambling on because I'm drowsy. Thanks for posting.

If you're interested a great tool for cutting ply sheets is the Worx mini circular saw, a lot easier, quicker and neater than a jigsaw and cuts up to 27mm. Nice way of showing how to, I'm currently building my own 0 gauge railway in the back yard, woodwork etc is coming along, just waiting for track and points to come in to stock so they can be shipped to me.

Well I kept a good lookout for Charlie's Charlies, but alas they weren't forthcoming...Tommy's put on a bit of weight though :-)
In seriousness, cracking project well presented and I'm really looking forward to watching it progress!

Fantastic video as always, I was thinking about a '00' garden railway a few years back but unfortunately personal reasons put a stop to it. Keep up the good work.

Never be put off having a 00 gauge railway in the garden, they work well and run reliably.

Its begging for a small branchline and a bridge over the pond. Dont bother much with maintaining it either, the more small plants around the tracks the better ittl look! Im looking forward to more good vid!
