Finding your channel has helped me SO much! I’m a Mezzo Soprano for Operatic pieces with high (B5) and low (F3) notes and in my college Choir I sing Alto 2. My chest voice has really been slacking due to quarantine and only getting pieces that have my Mix and Head voice but since doing yours I’m able to keep up with the pop/rock songs I sing in my free time that are lower and the classical pieces. Thank you so so much for making these videos!
As a singer who has never had any training except some cautionary lessons when I was maybe ten or twelve (learning that there *was* a break and that trying to sing the same way high as I do low would be damaging), it has been incredible to find your videos and to see that this break can be smooth rather than switching between two completely separate registers. Just to clarify, I should be able to slide across the break on the vowel with a subtle change in voice placement and tone, but without any tonal "lurching," for lack of a better word?
That's the idea! Don't be put off by some lurching in the beginning though. It takes some time and practice to work through it and get the balance right. Just keep making the transitions and keeping the vocal folds adducted. Best! Jeff
Hiiiiiii Jeff! This is a great vid to warm up with for me cause even though I’m pretty good at my break and secundo passagio its awesome for waking everything up. Getting ready for a gig and tried it and love it! Also, Loving the hair cut.
I love, love this and your other alto videos. In the second part of this video, the long E and A vowels, are wild. My voice wants to go to that breathy place, is that a bad thing?
The breathiness indicates abduction (separation) of the vocal folds. Can be a nice effect for some styles of singing, but isn't what I would consider to be neutral tone production, which is the goal of the videos on my channel. By all means sing with partially abducted vocal folds if stylistically appropriate, but consider working towards efficient adduction (closure) of the vocal fold as well in order to get the most even and balanced phonation possible. Thank you for watching! Jeff
What a wonderful educated teacher you are. Thank you, Jeff!
We're built to our own specs. 🥰
The wholesome content I subscribed for.

Still not sure if I’m a Tenor or am Alto
Upcoming video on this in the next several weeks. Great thought!
Jeff
