She was pregnant with Diezel and she tried to get the label to push the album back until she had him but they wouldn’t due to Barry Hankerson meddling and lying to get her to sign with Blackground. She discussed all of this drama in her memoir. It goes deeper into how Barry fucked her over. Similar to how he did other artists that he signed to Blackground (example: JoJo)

It was weird how this song got NO airplay but was very much current. It's a nice one. I appreciate it more than I did at that time.
According to Toni's book, she couldn't promote that album due to the difficult pregnancy as her doctor put her on long-term bed rest. The (mostly male) executives were not at all understanding nor willing to negotiate! :-(

This album actually was much embraced and appretiated by Toni, her label and management team because it was done precisely after "The Heat" album which was a "make up" album between her and her label/management/former producers...and by releasing the "More Than A Woman" album their goal was to position her again at the top of the music industry, just like in the 90's and on her 2 first albums!...And it would've been a hit wasn't the fact that she got pregnant from her 2nd child just two months prior the official release and beginning of a huge promotion and worldwide tour, which obviously led to the new breaking point between her and her then label/management team! That's what in fact happened and which explains why "Hit the Freeway" and subsequent songs/singles (like "Lies, Lies, Lies"...which even does not have a video) weren't successful!...And it is a shame...because in my opinion "More Than A Woman" and "Libra" are probably the best albums from Toni...because they're more cohesive and her voice sounds more natural!...And it was a missed attempt to present a different Toni and probably and finally her true voice as a mature and diverse artist!...
M Sanne Toni's manager at the time pressured her into making more 'current' music to make the album more marketable, whereas Reid wanted to preserve the authentic Toni Braxton 'sound', like oversung ballads, popular throughout the late mid-late 90s. There was a lot of conflict, and Toni was in the middle. Toni's manager also fabricated lies about Reid and Arista and claimed that they were considering dropping Toni, particularly after she fell pregnant and the album's marketing campaign failed. He just wanted to convince her to join his own label, which she eventually did and released 'Libra' in '05. I think that her hostility towards the project was due to its failure, plus Toni was contractually obliged by Arista to release that album and that made things tense between her and Reid since she wanted to focus on her marriage and motherhood.
