The more unequal a country/city is, the more crime it has. My mentor once told me that if we don't invest in Townships, we are going to need higher walls and more advanced private security.

In SA i think the main issue is lawlessness and corruption. People do crime because they know they can get away with it. We even have lot of foreign criminals who knows they are likely to get away with it.
We have very liberal constitution "best constitution in the world" that focuses on rights but not more on responsibility.
We have lot of repeat offenders who get bail because they have permanent address 😅

I've been to Kenya. I love Nairobi, Mombassa not so much. Hit me up, I'll give you the 411. I can't wait to hear your assessment. SA is the place for me...SA all the way...SA for the STAY! STAY in SA!!! Every Kenyan that I met has been colonized and given an American name, I've met--Sue, Eve, Linda, Brenda, Mike, Tom, Dick & Harry (lol! maybe not Dick & Harry)--I was like what in the world is going on, Am I the only one with an African name. The Indians & Arabs run the majority of the major businesses (Mall, eateries, restaurants, etc). The food scene is awful! I am a foodie and if it wasn't for the SA Chef that I met at a Hotel where I stayed I would be starving. This SA Chef changed the food scene and revamped the hotel's menu! Absolutely SA delicious! If I pop in for another visit, I would have to stay and eat only at his Hotel. If he goes, I'll follow. I love the Kenyan people! I love Chaptai's and I learned to make it the Kenyan way.

Peeing in the bush is natural, in fact we often say "Every tree is a lavatory 🚽" Be proud, don't let Dr. Asad shame you and your uncles! 😂😂😂 one day he will need a bush to pee on and we won't judge him!👊🏾

The biggest problem with South Africa is inequality! Its bad for rich people and its bad for disdavantaged people
You go to places like Sandton people are dying because they have too much food (Obesity, Diabetes, ED, blood pressure, Infertility) then you go to disadcantaged areas the people have less on the table but seem to suffer less from a health perspective. Even with Covid they said Africa will suffer more but we still standing

It’s a mostly Black middle school in ATL, they came to South Africa (some videos are on YT) and the they met with South African kids (12-13) their age as well as went to an orphanage to play with kids and loved it. One girl cried and didn’t want to leave ❤ I know your program is moreso for college students but it was a great experience for the African American kids to meet the South African kids

@20:00 - in the 1700s the British told some enslaved African Americans (including Harry Washington- President George Washington’s slave) that if they become spies and fight for the British during revolutionary war, they will help them escape. So they did and the British help 3000 ppl from the Washington area as well as some Gullah geechee people from the Carolina escape to Canada. Half stayed in Canada (& helped invented hockey) and the other half went to Sierra Leone and the area was called “Freetown” . This is why the Sierra Leone language Krio has same words as Gullah South Carolina language. Also this is why actor idris elba says his ancestors was African Americans who fought in revolutionary war. Also Google downtown Freetown cotton tree, that’s supposedly where the black Americans arrived in 1790s. It just fell down last year.

To the crime question. I think it's not necessarily about whether a place has wealth or not, I think it's more about unequal wealth distribution... In short Inequality. If a street can separate the marginalized and mostly hopeless from the affluent and pampered there's cause for conflict. Amongst those who have nothing and sometimes amongst the meek who wish to inherit the earth. And the places where there's no blue collar crime there's likely to be white collar crime or some other form of crime so perhaps sometimes its just about adjusting the lens.

I hope your students had fun . Expanding the program sounds good . Mrs was right 😂 I think the country you're looking for is Liberia. I know this because they had a former soccer player as a president and he did an excellent job. I wish we as South Africans can have similar leadership because we are basically on our own here😂😂😂. I don't think there is a place where you can honestly say there is zero crime, is possible to have low chance of experiencing crime however the risk exist, in Africa country is also hard to find crime statistics in many countries, it mean many countries don't even know the extent of problem...
I'm from rural LIMPOPO province, General crime in rural area is low,in most cases walking midnight people fear ghost than criminal, I think is because of economic reason of the area, if you live in poor area and people have basic need , even those rich people who live among poor don't experience crime like in big cities , in SA is worse in Sense that you have to deal with local criminal and poor migrate from neighbors countries, for example if you see poor migrate from neighbors countries in illigal mining or stealing electric cable in SA is not funny

There is crime in Zambia but probably not as high as in South Africa. South Africa probably has the highest levels of crime compared to other countries in the region. Rwanda is very safe compared to other African countries. Always do proper research get fully acquainted to the area and avoid walking at night in isolated places anywhere you go. Visitors believing that there is no crime in certain places has cost some people their lives.....

saying there's no crime wasn't literally meaning there's zero crime _ simply means there's much less in comparison

Doc, you are boujee now, you can't be caught up in rough neighbourhoods/countries no more🤣🤣🤣🤣. Go to Kenya and add your voice, the youth there need more voices so the government can focus on improving the life of citizens, instead of burdening them more with higher taxes.

What would a place not have crime ? Answer to that would probably be because theres not much development/infrastructure,but this is relative mostly to Africa..but then again South Africa socio economics and disparity between the haves and have nots due to our history its a trigger for crime..and by the way South Africa is the only country in Africa that honestly declares its crime stats..most African nations dont even bother to declare..also if South Africa was that bad in terms of crime than our fellow African brothers and sisters will not be migrating to SA..shows that its not really that bad..its just that media propaganda projects it in a negative eye..otherwise its relative what happens to most countries with major cities..My take though..Mondli from Durban,South Africa
