Maxine has very quickly become an important character to me. I don't think I've ever felt so seen by a character. Every obstacle she faces is informed by her race, gender, sexuality and ambition and it was truly a blessing to see her story take center stage.
She was truly the best character! At first I thought they were just going to show her briefly to acknowledge the experience of the times (like the nod in the original movie). Then I was worried they were going to have her play on the Peaches, erasing all of that. Not just historically inaccurate, but taking away one of the obstacles that fires her up. Then I thought her story was going to be just this disjointed "othering" of her storyline, running separate from the "main" one. By EP2 I was screaming, "GIVE MAX HER OWN SHOW!" In the end, I love the way they wove the two together, letting Max and Carsen interact where it was believable for the times, and show the two stories in parallel, which just made it all the more jarring and realistic. I still want an Adventures of Max and Clance series, but maybe I'm hoping for way too much!
I tried not to binge it, but that was impossible. The series was excellent and everyone I know that has actually watched it, loved it. I truly hope there’s a season 2!
I did the same thing. I sat down, 10 pm, said, I will watch one or 2 epi, well, I was up until dawn. I can not remember being so invested in a show...and it was the ENTIRE show, not just a coupel charecters...The entire cast was so amazing!

@@brunagardel4047 I didn't care at all. I liked this show so much. It's just uneducated white men feel entitled and expect the world revolve around them. i just watched this series through like 4 times in a row. i loved it. im so disappointed they arent making the second season to finish it off. its brilliant
Having now watched the entire season, what Abbi says at the very end about D'Arcy's delivery of the "I thought so" line at the end of the pilot makes SO much sense! Like I can completely see how the writing for Greta evolved between the pilot and the rest of the series purely based on D'Arcy's delivery of that line, and I'm so glad they were able to account for the actors' takes on the characters in the pilot in the writing for the rest of the season!
I had no idea how amazing the series was going to be. I just thought it was going to be another remake that didn't need to happen, and that I'd be turning it off before the end of the 1st episode. Yeah, I binged the entire season all last night. This was done so well, with so many stories that needed to be told, and in a genuine light.
An absolute triumph! Abbi and Chanté are fantastic leads and Carden was absolutely *phenomenal* as Greta. I sincerely, sincerely appreciated the balance between showing the very harsh reality of being queer during this era with the joy and victorious moments of finding community despite that. I can't wait for season 2 because there is so much more to tell with these characters! This is a true testament to what excellent media can be made when queer women and women of color are steering the ship behind the scenes and on the screen.
I greatly appreciate the balance of sad realism with the happier moments too. It's difficult to find that, especially with lesbian/gay characters set in the past. It felt like a very respectful portrayal of multiple groups. Told in a way which showed the weight of the prejudice & barriers of the time but also the strength of those affected & the happy moments they were still able to create. The stand out performances for me were D'Arcy Carden as Greta & Gbemisola Ikumelo as Clance. They both felt like fully formed characters with charisma & genuine personality. Wonderful performances I hope to see more of.
This show shines light on so many topics which are often overlooked yet it never feels forced. It is so easy to slip into the perspective of women who had to fight so hard. While watching every episode you just reflect on a lot of issues you might not normally think about to much, especially if you are not part of that minority. Great show overall I loved it so much and really think there is room for more stories in futher seasons!
I loved this show! and I'm recommending it to everyone who asks me for something new to watch. The representation of women and the lesbian/bi community is great! The racism of the time.. all the characters give a show of interpretation! I can't wait for the second season.

Excellent series, it takes stories not recognized in the 1992 film and expands the narrative. Based on real events but showing characters that are mixtures of experiences, it provides an emotional representation of LGBT women in the 40's. Bringing different types of relationships, from romantic to friendship, these are funny, interesting and crying episodes at the same time. Created and produced by queer people it's a wonderful series, I'm looking forward to season 2!
I decided to just start the first episode or 2 at 11pm and then 7 and 1/2 hours later I ended up finishing the whole show didn’t get any sleep that night but who cares because it was amazing

The problem I had with it is they didn't need CGI 30 years ago to make it believable and it looked much better. The CGI was very distracting, gloves popping and balls speeding through the air sounds like they're throwing 90 and every swing or throw was a close up shot so there's no illusion of continuous plays.
