  • Somerville Manning Gallery is pleased to present a father and son exhibition of new works by Greg Mort and Jon Mort from November 19 - December 18, 2021.
The collection of work in Object Lessons represents what we learn by observing the natural world around us. As we amass a greater understanding, where is the line between what we know and what we intuit? The more deeply we observe, the more clearly we see the natural order, and the more we open our senses, the more sensitive we become to the subtleties of our surroundings. We can know only a small fraction of the universe we inhabit, and this truth makes what we observe rarer, and thus more valuable. Anything made by hand is also made by heart. This is the hope, the meaning, and the power of object lessons.
Greg Mort’s art can be found in the private collections of three US presidents and two vice presidents, as well as in premier museums around the world including the Smithsonian's American Art Museum and Air and Space Museum, the National Gallery of Art, and the Portland, Delaware, Farnsworth, and Academy Art Museums. Jon Mort’s drawings were exhibited at the Portsmouth Museum of Art, The Phillips Museum of Art, the Sandy Spring Museum, and many more.

Didn't make it to the show and so pleased that we can see these wonderful paintings and also listen to the father and son team talk about their approaches to art. I second the fact that Jonathan is an historical scholar - he shares amazing thoughts with all of us. Thanks Somerville Manning Gallery and Greg and Jonathan Mort! Jennifer
