@jeremyrom A loss of dynamics is a disadvantage to being so close to the pianos, for sure. The tune is meant to have a lot of the bass notes accented, though, so much of the "melody" isn't really meant to be brought out anyway. As I said in the description, Tom is taking the lead, but he's farther away from the camera, so much of the "foundation" is quieter than the embellishment added by Adam. It's probably easier to follow if you're already familiar with the tune.
Wow, i am definitely out of the loop...you guys make the 4hand/2piano gig something crazy. Especially with your ragtime/stride prowess. Keep up the amazing playing...some of us with arthritic hands cannot boost the rest! Saludos y brazos desde Denver, CO, EU.
@jeremyrom I agree. But then again, I think that "Wall of Sound" is what they were going for. Musicality usually takes a backseat at these late-night cutting contests if it isn't jettisoned altogether.
I had this open in another tab when the piece started, so I didn't see the title of the video...and the way they started, I thought they were playing "Razor Blades" at first!
@MapleCousins It's an arpeggio exercise essentially, all in ragtime fun....start s l o w, when learning, then gradually increase your speed, and I guarantee it is VERY satisfying when you can play it!
@AdmiralDolphin someone might fall victim to one of the classic blunders...The most famous of which is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: Never go against Tom Brier when death is on the line!
This kind of reminds me of the music from the old Popeye the Sailor cartoons from the '40s and earlier. I almost keep expecting them to suddenly break into his theme song for when he eats his spinach, lol :).
Don't ever say "Piano Duet" when it's "two piano, four hands". That can get you into trouble as I can attest to my band director messing up for a state-wide contest
I always love when Tom laughs out loud while playing a duet.

@Keeper1st - it's amazingly fun to listen to anyways :-)

this would be pretty cool as a piano battle... to the death
I heard this one and imeediatley thought of razor blades
Wall of sound. I cant hear any balance or dynamics. It just sounds like 2 people playing notes at full volume. :(
