    Mo finally addressed my concern. Every time I'm having a conversation with a client, it feels like I must do everything for everybody. I do video, photo, and design work. However, when I try to talk to clients, I felt like those services I offer play insignificant or irrelevant impacts to clients.
    One example is when CTR is excellent because of engaging video, but then the Customer Service cannot close the deal because they are not well trained to communicate with the customer.
    It's also nice to learn that I can extend my services to achieve my client's goal by working together as a team or making a new team.
    thanks guys :D

      @shueibdahir 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You put so perfectly. I've been the technician quite literally my entire life. The guy who fixes things and I was mostly focused on the technical stuff. I always suffered with this mentality of not knowing enough like a scientist would.
      This just made me realise I need to accept that in all truth i am good at what I do and that my main focus shouldn't be on improving my technical skills for now, but to focus on sales and marketing and thinking of the business as a whole rather than think like a freelancer

    Chris, after studying this 100x, this lesson was a bit difficult to apply because the scale that your students in the room set up. Y’all are talking about millionaire clients and productions for tens of thousands of dollars. I think a more relatable scenario would be the budding filmmakers. Trying to land their first $5-8k project. Diagnosing the issues and problems for a small but growing business. Hope to see more of that one day :) still, cannot thank you enough for the knowledge.

    • @anjosdomar269
      @anjosdomar269 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes. Also, a millionaire client would probably already have a marketing staff etc behind him. Actually most well stablished business already have a team devoted for the company’s problems. So if they are reaching out for a video, they are not expecting you to diagnose their whole business and come in as a expert bussines man. I bet they would probably think your outsider you lane and they just want a video. But in a small business just starting out, maybe this could apply.

      @Anjos do Mar my friend back in 2012 had a construction company approach him for a video so they can use for a construction bid. When the company ask for the price, my friend said 30k and they agreed. Later he found out the construction company won the bid for 30 million dollar project. This is when my friend learned about value based pricing.

    • @stephenbrody2717
      @stephenbrody2717 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nicholasolivas317 30k is a lot for a marketing video. How do think you are entitled to back end profit. The mistake you make right out of the gate is not understanding the other person’s business model. 30 million dollar project might only make
      8 -10 million that might be over time like 3 yrs.

    • @nicholasolivas317
      @nicholasolivas317 ปีที่แล้ว

      @stephenbrody2717 you raised a good point about not understanding the costs of the construction company. But I think you are mistaken about 30K being alot for a marketing video. 1. You are thinking with what you can afford. Maybe you can't but the construction company can and agreed to without any hesitation.
      2. You are not understanding the cost associated with my friend's firm. What other costs or outside contractors he needs to bring onto the project. You are assuming he is a one man showing up with a camera. This is 2012, Chat GPT wasn't around, he had to hire a copy writer, not to mentioned since the client was a construction company, safety precautions had to be implemented so my friend can get B-roll.
      You are correct this value based pricing is not taken account the other costs of the company.
      Same can be said for the low bar clients who try to low ball the video production companies. They are thinking with their pockets and don't understand our business model or our overhead costs.

  • @MattLloydTube
    @MattLloydTube 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is such good advice, I tried to automate my price estimates with an online form but all the questions focus around "what i make" i.e. videography related e.g. do you want voiceover, do you already have an animated logo etc. And prospective clients often do not know what an animated logo even means. To flip it round to speaking to them about strategy rather than the video itself seems like such a good idea and fascinating. So much so that I watched this right the way through from start to finish. Lets hope this advice works out in the field.......

    It's extremely hard for video creators to get out of the space of "I can make an amazing video for you." That statement is to ambiguous and really doesn't solve anything. Or "I have this equipment, blank, blank, etc." When the reality is business owners don't care about that, what they do care about is solving a problem they have. Mostly it's one they aren't completely aware of. Thats the top layer and where the details live is the pain points that people are uncomfortable in unraveling. "The devil lives in the details." The real trick is leaning into the pain and ripping off the band-aide and really digging in and disinfecting the wound wether it be their sales funnel needs a re-work or some step in the process ie, wrong ad platforms or incoherent brand awareness. These need to be re-thought and scrutinized. These aren't sexy conversations by any means but it's where the diamonds in the rough live. Once problems are addressed it then becomes plugging in the right video for a desired outcome all along the supply chain for their customers journey.

    So far viewed through 20 minutes: This does a good job at explaining how to collect sales information. But can someone one comment as to how exactly our video products meets the business need? Essentially - Are we claiming that the quality of our video gets more business for the client?, The placement of the video?, The timing of the video? At the end of all this talk, we are going to pitch a video. That is the "what" but "How" are we claiming the video will achieve the desired outcome for the client?

Although budgets definitely increase as you move to right of the chart, many other things also need to come into the picture including people actually wanting and knowing how to run an agency and how to actually help businesses grow.

      @@thefutur i wonder what you would do to if a taxi driver started asking you how can he save you time on your ride home and started asking how much is your annual revenue to calculate the impact of his work on your life. Im pretty sure you would tell him to f off

    Thank you Chris for being a great guide and help through your videos..I have always been frustrated cos I know I have being undervalued as a strategist and highly underpaid which causes a lot of pain and frustration with almost every job that leaves me with nothing at the end of the day cos of fear of being without job and little crumbs for feeding and bills .but your perception is helping me a lot and I pray for more insight on how to really increase clients perception,value and pricing towards my personality and works... people just use me cos I always appear desperate because of my NEEDS

    Are there times though when the client comes to you and it's exactly what they should be wanting / doing? And so you don't need to go through this entire process? How do you know if you should just stick to what they are asking for before trying to dive into something deeper?

    Is there a playlist that’s just for video/photography production

    Amazing video and thanks so much for the advice, it really is extremely useful. However, it seems like the advice is to become a marketing agency. For a video producer/content creator is the only way to expand to offer marketing services alongside the video production. I’m very skilled at producing but a bit daunted at having to learn a new skill set to develop my business. Any answer/comments from the community would be very helpful. Many thanks.

    Seems like the people listening to this speech are stuck in a video/motion graphics production employee or contractor mindset. The speaker on the other hand is actually teaching them how to build and scale their video marketing business

    It’s an interesting way to think, BUT.. the video did not address a couple of things. For start, a millionaire client would probably already have a marketing staff etc behind him. Actually most well stablished business already have a team devoted for the company’s problems. So if they are reaching out for a video, they are not expecting you to diagnose their whole business and come in as a expert bussines man. I bet they would probably think your outside your lane and they just want a video. But in a small business just starting out, maybe this could apply.

      we almost work exclusively w/ multi-million and multi-billion dollar companies. your assumptions may not be true. they have marketing directors and CMO but that doesn't mean they produce or create the work in house. they manage it.
