    If u are a generational player or a great player it doesn’t matter what era it is they will be able to adapt there are players in the past who can play in this era and there are current players today who can play in past eras I wish each generation can stop slandering the other

    Hot take: if you were elitie in a certian era, you would have been able to adapt and be elite in any era. If you place bill Russell as he was then into todays league, hed be mid. But with better trainers, diets, and more money, along with work ethic, he could have been great in this era

    • @mars3676
      @mars3676 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ImTitan16 wouldnt that apply all skilled player ? Their skill goes up and down depending on factors you mentioned. What transcends is your natural ability. Bill Russell natural ability was his basketball mind. He had a really high IQ player like bron. His skill was rebounding and defense. That changes depending on the game speed and defensive rules etc. this is why Rudy is the best defender of this era but would be irrelevant in the past. To say bill wouldn’t be bill is crazy because his natural ability wouldn’t change. He would still be the smartest player on the court, no matter what era we in.

    You didn't mention how the rule changes contributed to the "skill" differences. Literally, every screen and most dribbles were violations in past years. Players aren't more skilled today. It's just the rules allow more offensive flexibility at the cost of defensive skills. Giannis would have to adapt to prior rules to be successful in the past because he can't shoot and his handles are weak even by today's standards. Compare him to past eras and he would be called for travel literally every possession. That is what old heads are trying to say to the new people. Both eras would have to adjust to different rules, but moving the old heads to the new game is easier to consider because more is allowed. It would be a bigger adjustment for the current generation to go back. Even if you look at shooting percentages, 3s are shot at a much higher volume but only made at a marginally higher percentage because subpar shooters are encouraged to shoot today.

      I can say the same thing backwards. Players back then would have to lessen their physicality defensively, while new players could be more physical but would need to defend the post

  • @EJGARCIIA
    @EJGARCIIA 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    If we’re being real you can’t compare the two; one era(old) allowed hand checking on defense and the other(new) allows you to carry the basketball while using your off arm.
    If you want to see who is better you would need to make league that allows you to hand check the offense while also allows the offense to carry and use their off arm.
    You would then need to throw both into the ringer and see who comes out on top.

  • @caml1720
    @caml1720 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    i think "physicality" is a bit too broad for what we want to point at when we refer to the 90s and aughts.
    to me the athleticism we see now is related to the injury surge-players today aren't just more "skilled" in terms of decisionmaking+dexterity+coordination; the handcuffs on modern defenses incentivize sharper movements and changes of direction that ask a lot more of modern players in terms of body control, deceleration, and fluidity in changing direction.
    the game looks less like the NFL than it used to, but it's not less physically demanding in any measurably way

    I love a lot of your content however a few points 👈 I believe you mistaken abt... Russell Westbrook would Struggle to get triple doubles in the 80s and 90s.. that heliocentric style was not accepted back then and nobody is moving out the way to let Westbrook get easy rebounds as those PF were reallying on those Rebounds for themselves and their own negotiations for future contracts... add to that the way in which an assits is given now was much tighter in the past.. you had to shoot and you had you couldn't dribble at all in order to be credited for the assit...
    On a good teams James and Westbrook would have to find a defined role same is true for lebron... I think all of them could have played back then but they would have been FORCED to be different versions of themselves

    Anthony Edwards' revisionist history comes off like a kid that's trying to bullshit their book report while only having read the back cover of the book.
    Just isolating that one statement he made, it's actually really strange hearing one of today's most premiere players make the kind of observation about their sport that you'd only expect from a casual. It's such a jarring juxtaposition, to the point where it's genuinely funny.

    Lebron literally played in that era, it’s so funny to hear people saying that like Lebron didn’t finished 2nd in MVP voting in 2006, like he didn’t carried his team to the Finals in 2007, like he didn’t won scoring title in 2008 and like he didn’t won his first 2 MVP in 2009 and 2010 ! From 2003 to 2013 it was basically the prime of guys like Kobe, Duncan, Dirk, KG, Wade, Dwight, Pierce, Kidd, Nash, Ben Wallace ect ect … Lebron was already in his prime in that era, AND HE DOMINATED THEM ! So stop bringing Lebron name in these discussions, Lebron scored 25 straight points and 29 of the last 30 of his team in game 5 of the ECF against the Piston who still had Rasheed Wallace, Chauncey Billups and Tayshaun Prince they were still an elite defense … Lebron career high in points was right in the deadball era in 2006 he averaged 31.4ppg, so it’s just another proof that if he really wanted to be a pure scorer and jack up 27 shot per game like 06 Kobe or 87 MJ, he could have won 10 scoring titles like MJ 🤷🏾‍♂️Im tired with this BS, Lebron literally played in that fucking era lol

      You can be more skilled than an NBA player. But can you do it night-in, night-out? Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's toughest opponent was Earl Manigault and Manigault couldn't make it in the NBA. Shammgod is more skilled than Allen Iverson, but you have to be the complete body of work, not a showboater, to make it in the NBA. There are levels.

    You literally admitted that players today travel all the way to the rim. They pretty much just carry the ball too. Yet you don't see the irony of your statement saying, "today's players are more skilled". In what way are they skilled actually? Carrying and travelling?

    • @justtimes9257
      @justtimes9257 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, the rules allowed it because remember Allen Iverson's crossover was considered a travel during that time. Period but the NBA has changed the rules and if you got a problem with how the game is played today blame the rules because the rules dictate how the game is playing.

    • @redhorsepapi
      @redhorsepapi 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@justtimes9257 dude exactly. The players' "skills" are dictated by the rules. So how are today's players more skilled? They're not. They're just allowed to do more on the basketball court.

    • @justtimes9257
      @justtimes9257 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@redhorsepapi well I would have to disagree. I would believe today's players are more skilled because the training the film that exist the breakdowns of basketball and also the influence of Michael Jordan because of him we saw the 2000s be filled with players who worked on skill and then today's players were crafting their game after 2000 players on top of that so I would say they evolved a lot in their skill set, but the rules help them of course
