    My first Kershaw was the cryo. I had it for 6 years. I remember leaving it outside before the first New England snow storm of the year, then when spring came I found it again. Minorly rusted for what it has been through. Cleaned it up and it still rocked on for another 2 years before I gifted it to a friend. Looking almost new.

      That is awesome!!! I still have a fondness for this knife. Even after all the others I have purchased.

    Love the history behind this knife. Anytime you can speak highly about something you’ve carried for a long period of time is really appreciated. 💪🏼😉 Keep um coming!

      I agree. I have absolutely no complaints with this knife. I'd still be carrying it if I hadn't started a TH-cam channel.

    Not a huge fan of assisted but also carried an assisted Kershaw for several years as my beater knife (the Brawler) and it was also a reliable knife that I didn't mind beating on that survived forever. Thanks for sharing!

      I appreciate you watching Jake! Just out of curiosity, why do you think so many people are against assisted opening knives? You are not the first to mention their lack of affection for them.

    • @UncommonEDC
      @UncommonEDC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SurvivingtheDaily I’m not sure, I don’t hate them once I have them I just never really choose them. I think the main thing is unlike an auto, they normally have a regular deployment method and lock so if you have an assisted with a flipper and liner lock for example it is almost as easy to open a non assisted with the same flipper tab but much harder to close the assisted one due to the spring tension.

      @@UncommonEDC I was getting the sense that it was an issue of purity but that makes a lot more sense.

    Mine felt a bit heavy at first compared to similar sized knives but after carrying it for about 6 months I feel the opposite way, other knives feel light and almost flimsy. I picked up a gerber a bit ago, the tip immediately broke, screws are coming loose etc. looks like the kershaw is keeping the top spot. The bevel on the gerber is a bit easier to sharpen freehand so it does have its perks.

      I'm happy to see I am not the only one who has a special love for this knife. The Cryo is very well built and will last a good long time. Thank you for checking out the video!! 🙏

    • @Sanguivore
      @Sanguivore 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In my experience, if you're in the budget market, stay *far,* far away from Gerber. All their knives are way overpriced for what they are, and everyone of them I've ever had has fallen apart in under 3 months from just normal use. Kershaw and Civivi are about the only readily-available budget brands I'd consider as far as build and materials and sturdiness is concerned. Everything else I've ever had in that price-range has fallen apart on me, and is made of sub-standard materials.

    The first real knife I ever bought for myself was a Kershaw Leek. Still a great knife and I still love the handle and blade shape. But, I won't buy another assisted opener. It just feels like cheating and when proper design, good bearings, and a bit of oil can make any knife fly open with the same ease. That said, the Leek still sits on my desk every day.

    How do you like the Speedsafe? I’ve been thinking about picking up a Leek…In copper… but have waited because of the assisted opening. I don’t know how I feel about it in terms of reliability and longevity. You answered the longevity part with this video for me.

    • @SurvivingtheDaily
      @SurvivingtheDaily  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not everyone is a fan of assisted knives but I can't lie, the speedsafe is impressive. It opens fast every time. The only downside is you can't drop shut it but being a loner lock, it is still a one handed closing.

    • @FloridaBoyEDC
      @FloridaBoyEDC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SurvivingtheDaily I’m glad you said that. That was a concern. I like knifes that you can manipulate one handed. Drop shut is fun but not 100% necessary. Thanks for the info! I feel better about pulling the trigger on one.
