I bought one right after you posted this video. I'm not sorry. It is rugged and as it turns out, it's the best of the many Kershaw knives i own. Kind of large for my EDC needs but it is one of my go-to's when the need arises. My primary REC is Hogue Deka magnacut reverse tanto. I recommend this knife without reservation.

Great review on a fine knife. I own several Kershaws, domestically made and otherwise. None has ever disappointed or let me down. The Cryo 1555BW is with me nearly every day and has proven to be a flawless performer.

Hands down the best job 'demoing' a knife i have ever seen.....you covered all the information one needs to make an inform decision to buy or not without blabing on-n-on about crap nobody cares about,....you handled and opened it many times instead of just looking and talking ...you actually show how it go's in a pocket and you did not say 'UM' even once......again, Fantastic job........thanx,.,.

Good review with helpful size comparisons. I too have opted to carry the Kershaw Cryo daily after trying other knives and being unsatisfied. The Cryo is nicely balanced and sturdy, and has held up without issue to 2 years of carry and use. The deep pocket clip is one of the best features - mostly because it prevents the knife from falling out of my back pocket or getting snagged on chairs, etc. Just be sure to review laws per state because in many states (including Oregon, where I live) concealing a knife with a spring assist blade "that swings open into position" is illegal. Having the pocket clip showing is generally accepted as not concealing, even if the knife itself is not visible.

Well you sold me, I went on ebay the same day I got your video in my email and I purchased one for $34.62 shipped free and two days later it came by First Class mail. It is one awesome knife, well made and I love the washed out look. Its a bit shorter than my Spyderco I've been carrying, which has a bad edge that has chips in it and I have cut only paper and cardboard with it, I'll never buy another Spyderco and I will say the Kershaw Blackwash CRYO looks to have a much better blade than the Spyderco,. I only wish it had Made In The USA stamped on the blade and not China......Great review falia.

Been a subscriber and fan for a long time. I bought this knife solely on your review and received it today. I must say that you were right on as usual. It's an amazing little knife for EDC and the blackwash finish is very desirable to me. If you can't afford (or just don't want to spend that much on) a US made Zero Tolerance and want a similar design and feel, this knife if the way to go! Thanks again and keep the reviews coming!

I've had my Cryo for about a year and I love it! I carry it tip down in my back pocket. I have a short lanyard on it which makes for getting it quickly out of the pocket. I also have a SOG Mini Aegis, which is just a tiny bit bigger and has a better pocket clip. But I really don't like the lock mechanism on SOG knives; I find them very awkward. So I carry the SOG in my purse because it's lightweight. But my Cryo is my go-to blade.
    Thanks for the great review!

Great review......it caused me to go to BladeHQ and buy one of the "Plain Grey" versions of it this morning. I've been using a Benchmade 15055 Bone Collector that my son gave me as a Christmas gift. I asked for that model since I had to have half of my right thumb amputated and can't use the assist function of most knives. I didn't know about the flipper function until I saw your video. Thanks.

+c4snipar exactly. If it was made in the US people would whine about the price. Nit to mention many companies use the "made in the USA" angle as an excuse to jack up the price so they earn double what it costs to make the product.

Glad to see you back! I love the Cryo and the Cryo 2, and, of course, would love to see them made in the USA. But, having said that, this is an almost perfect little knife. I have the Cryo 2 also, and find them very close to the quality of the ZT 560/561, which are my EDCs. Kershaw got this one just right, I think. The Cryo is a pip, that's for sure!

  • @AszBall
    @AszBall 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Skyyyyliiine dooo ittttt. So much better, I also thought it wasn’t the prettiest knife either but once you carry it it’s so nice you learn to love the look. Pocket clip sucks but I took the clip off my Cryo and with a little work from a dremel tool I made the Cryo clip fit on my skyline. Smaller in pocket, lighter, yet still manages to have more blade than the Cryo. Best part is it’s American made and even has an American flag on the blade on the new models. Not sure why you would ever compare it to the ZT560, I have one of those as well and they are in no way similar except that hinderer had a hand in designing both. Completely different worlds no one is gonna be like I was gonna get the Cryo but just barely decided to pay 7x more and get the ZT haha. And honestly if you have the disposable income to buy a microtech, wtf is stopping you from buying a skyline, a inexpensive, yet still one of the most popular knives ever made. A knife that has had people so obsessed they have collections of all the sprint runs and limited editions which can get pricey (my gentleman’s carry S30v CF skyline cost $200). I stopped carrying the Cryo a long time ago, action feels sluggish, slight “recurve” makes it difficult to sharpen towards the heel, gotta get the blade play a lil sloppy to get it to open right, not a lot of blade, heavy as hell for the size, skyline has no issues except the shitty shallow carry pocket clip which I fixed and honestly you can buy custom deep carry titanium clips anyways. Long story short the skyline is EDC gold and the Cryo, something I used to love as one of my first kershaw EDC knives, has turned into a junk drawer knife.

Just found this channel. Id have to say the cryo/cryo 2 is my favourite edc knife.
I do have prettier, art piece/utilitarian knives but when I need to get some work done in a pinch, I probably wont be carrying any of my full tangs, and my meatier pocket blades are usually harder to carry/open while opening this blade has become a reflex.

    I like my CRYO too.
Rounding off sharp edges of of the flipper just a little made it more comfortable on my finger.
Included instructions with knife recommend moving clip to to other side for right front pocket carry, but it will not carry as deeply in pocket that way. Upside to swapping clip is easier/faster access to flipper when drawing.
    Thanks for another informative review.

Bought one of these based on this review and am very happy with it. It's my EDC and is the standard (gray) finish. It was less than $25.00!! Great quality for the price. Do wish the thumb studs actually worked but can live with it. Also find the clip just a tad too tight (to the point it actually damages jeans) but I think I can tweak that out a bit. The blade is razor sharp and has been durable so far (light duty). The finger guard was a key selling feature and is great. Thank you for the excellent review!

Saw the CYRO on sale for $24.99 so I thought what the hell I'll give it a try. The damn thing is perfect, love the features and so comfortable for EDC. I'm with you Falia, hope to God Kershaw will start making it in the USA.

I have the cryo too. I really like the size of the knife too. My girlfriend was looking for a good quality knife with the size of the cryo. She went with the Benchmade Mini Griptialian with the D2 steel version from Cabela's. I really like the fast opening and the lighter weight of the Mini Grip. The blade is available in several different steels. You can even customize a mini grip on the website with some cool options. I am really thinking about getting a custom version since I really like my girl friend's.

Not a bad choice, solid knife, but with an all metal construction, and the fact that the all metal models can get pretty hot to the touch when exposed to a decent amount of heat, unlike a G-10 scaled or similar style, and it's a bit heavier than some...but glad you found one you like.

I don't know if they still do this, but back in 2004 when they first set up in Shanghai, KAI used to manufacturer all the disposable razor blades in Japan (in Seki) and sent the blades to China to be assembled with handles and packaged. I wonder if they still do this for their pocket knives.

Very nice, concise review! I've been a bit less of a Kershaw fan since Ken left, but it's good to see Hinderer's designs improving below the ouch-my-wallet ZT price points.
For Falia or anyone else who's got one of these: how's the traction overall? I've got largeish hands (9.5" span), and I ended up needing to add skateboard tape to my Leek and Chive just to be able to hold on to the things. I want one of these things, but I'd rather not have to mess up the excellent looks.

Falia, I agree with the deep carry. As invisible as possible. I use the Twitch I, also. Have it in black also.. so the clip is nearly imperceptible with very dark clothes. It is hard to find a good deep carry clip knife. I found and bought a SOG Flash II which has a nearly perfect clip. It actually takes the top of the knife down below the top of your pocket. It has a lot of attributes you seem to like in this review. It is larger though. About an inch longer than the Twitch II.
    Thanks for the reviews.

Nice review! I've got the original Cryo and the new G10 version (for the slightly lighter weight). I use them as beater/loaner knives mostly. Regarding the whole Made in China issue, the location of manufacture isn't a big issue to me as long as I'm getting the quality I've paid for. For the price point, these are fine folders that I think serve their intended purpose and market. I'd personally prefer to beat on or loan these out than my higher end PM2, 0566, 0560, etc because I'd be pissed if they were damaged or not returned.

I, too, own several of the CRYO line of knives. Nice knife, but far too many arrived with non-centered blades...

Great review, was wondering if you've had a chance to check out the Kershaw knockout? been carrying since getting as a gift for fathers day and really like it. It's overall the same size as my ZT 0350, but thinner and lighter. Only drawback is no jimping or texture...but it is American made.

Might want to check out the Zero Tolerance 566 which also a Hinder design. I like it better than the Kershaw be a use it is grippier due to the G10 on one side.

i like the stonewash too but i wish they would apply it after sharpening. when used on very expensive microscopy blades, it actually can make the blade sharper. they apply the DLC in a magnetic field, which aligns the iron ferrules with the DLC crystals, and the knife becomes microscopically sharp. basically it becomes sharp even at an almost molecular level. obviously that sharpness only lasts so long, and degrades almost immediately. but if you have a defense knife, you aren't gonna use it even once until you need it for defense... so it's good to have an uber sharp defense blade, and a tougher, more durable bushcraft blade. that's what i already do on my own, even without DLC blades

Great video! As others mention why not Benchmade. Predominately if not all Benchmades are Made in Usa, and have bulletproof customer service. My beater is a mini griptilian but I can appreciate China made stuff to a certain extent but mostly not in the knife department.

Nice review. You need to reverse your pocket clip for safer carry in your right front pocket. The blade should be sitting against the edge of the pocket to further inhibit inadvertent opening.

You put a lot of thought into everything you own, just out of curiosity what type of truck do you drive? Is it equipped to be your bug out vehicle?

I know Zero Tolerance knives are a bit pricey, but you should just save up & get the ZT0566 it runs for about $120.

Great review! I thought I had a lot of knives. I've been carrying Emersons as of late the CQC 15 and Signature Combat Fighter, I think the wave opener is as fast as an assisted or auto knife.
