  • We visited Royal Springs park in downtown Georgetown, Kentucky which is the site of many of Rev. Elijah Craig's industries to include his distillery. Many say that Craig invented the process of storing corn liquor in charred barrels giving bourbon it's distinct color and flavor. We tell this story as well as many more from his incredibly interesting life that involves the "Traveling Church", his work to set up freedom of religion in our infant nation, establishment of many first business' in Kentucky and his hand in the foundation of Georgetown College. He even has a connection with Frank and Jesse James! Rev. Elijah Craig truly lived.

Late to the party, but I just came across your channel. Fun stuff. Elija Craig was my 6x great grandfather. His son Joel, married Elizabeth Putnam, daughter of Col. Israel Putnam and Great granddaughter of General Putnam. One of their daughters, Minerva Putnam Craig was my 4x great grandmother.

He was a slave owner too! Might have gotten his recipe from his slaves like Uncle Nearest looked out for Jack Daniels, there's a lot of people from back then who don't get their due credit!

I suppose that is possible but I hadn’t heard that theory yet. I will certainly agree with you that many folks did not get their credit due for their ideas and inventions. It’s a crying shame.

You can't find his grave because Elijah was taken into the heavens upon a fiery chariot.

He may have seen “a flaming chariot” after drinking his own whiskey 😊
