How natural Rubber is Made from Trees | Rubber Harvesting and Processing | Rubber Tapping Method

- Natural rubber latex is traditionally converted into sheet form through careful coagulation and subsequent milling process on two roll mills. There are many types of sheet rubbers namely Ribbed smoked sheet rubber, Air-dried sheet tuber and sun-dried sheet rubber depending on the drying methodology used. Among them, Ribbed Smoked Sheet (RSS) has been the major form of raw rubber produced in Sri Lanka and Kerala. Practically entire volume of this grade of rubber is produced by small and medium scale rubber growers who own below 10 acres and between 10-50 acres respectively, scattered in the rubber growing districts in the country. This is mainly due to the simplicity and low cost of the processing machinery, easily adoptable processing technology, and the viability of the manufacturing process with any amount of latex.

I'm watching this while wearing a black latex rubber t-shirt, and black latex rubber trousers! ... Like many people, I love wearing rubber! 👍😜🤣
When i was a kid growing up in sri lanka, about thirty years ago, i used to watch this process whenever i visited my ancestral home during the school holidays. It was more primitive and the whole process was done manually. Our rubber sheets thickned after a few hours of mixing it with the acid and it was white. Watching the labourers press the latex sheet with their hands and then press our family seal onto the sheet was so therapeutic. These people used metal strainers, but our labourers used an improvised strainer made out of fern leaves that grew on the rubber plantation floor. One of the labourer's name was David, i dont think he is alive now.

I don't mean to sound so disrespectful, it's not my intention, but, do you really think this is " hard " work? I don't. I do however, appreciate their very long hours and probably 7 days a week, tedious, and tiresome job, and only getting paid the bare minimum. But as for hard work, no, this is not hard to do.
Hard work would be if they had to climb up and down each tree while carrying those heavy buckets filled with sticky sap or "rubber" tied to their waist, then emptying them into a bigger bucket and moving on to the next tree......and so on. Now that's hard work. And like I just said this job is very tedious, tiresome and maybe even boring. Although, I personally wouldn't mind this job. I love to be in nature.

Very interesting and educational video! I've got two questions. Does anyone know why smoking the sheets makes it more valuable? The added carbon is the only thing I can think of. How many sheets does it take to make a auto tire?
Smoking makes sheet get dried and moisture free from growths. 2. Compounding with carbon and other additions to improve the character of tyres with nylon or steel fabrics.

What the smoked rubber is used for?
My family in Africa has lot of rubber trees fields. They used to sell it raw and make some money but prices have dropped so much these last years, it isn't even profitable anymore. I'm wondering if there is a way to transform it by ourselves into a finished product that can be sold on retail locally.
I live in USA. I do know that many, many people (especially women) is extremely ALLERGIC to latex. Perhaps that's one reason why.

Smoked rubber is in the form of sheets and scrap. Smoked rubber sheets are known as Ribbed Smoked Sheets (RSS) of various quality grades. They're used in tyre manufavturing.
You can sell rubber raw and make money if you increase the quantity of production with same no. of trees, by applying stimulant a day before tapping the trees.
With a bit of investment, you could produce centrifuged latex, crepe rubber, crumb rubber, block rubber, and sheet rubber, which can all be sold to manufacturers of final products.
Manufacturing the products that end-consumers use, like tyres, gum-boots, surgical gloves, condoms, bushes, rubber bands, balloons, etc., would require a much heavier investment.

As per today's market rate(15/10/2022) one Kg fully processed rubber sheet is 151 Indian rupees , prices have dropped down these past years.
This video is from Kerala, Southern state of India.
This process can be done year around apart on rainy days...
Judging by that they’re going for roughly US $0.84/lb with current exchange rate

We were getting a lot of profit after the expenses but suddenly price dropped too low when india expanded to import rubber latex from foreign so its not profitable as the earlier times but if we have a big area for cultivation it's still good rubber is always a cash crop . Iam in kerala where you can easily find rubber shops within small distances we are selling to them and we also owns rubber shops. if getting a price 200 and above it's a good profitable cultivation a long term investment
