RJ falls into the same tier as players like De’Andre Hunter, Jordan Poole, Gary Trent Jr., John Collins and Caris LeVert among others they are all just Mid… definitely playable but not necessarily ideal as starters in my opinion

this mans like Andrew Wiggins in many ways; From their parents similar history and career paths to their quiet Canadian demeanours to their athleticism. Great vid btw.

Just not sure of his basketball IQ. Against the right matchup, he looks great, but he can't seem to figure out how to adjust when needed.

RJ bro. he would drop +30 one night then brick everything the following game. super inconsistent. was frustrating to parlay him

Personally if his coach gave him the green light and confidence since day 1 instead of Randle then Maybe his skill set would be more improved.

Thats what I'm thinking. If he was given the responsibility of the 2nd ball handler behind Brunson, I think we'd see some more consistency and development.

It’s pretty simple. Good player but not good enough to be the all star he was drafted to be. He’s probably close to his peak.

To me RJ falls into the same bracket as Harrison Barnes.

    • @TerranovaBasketballStudy
      @TerranovaBasketballStudy  ปีที่แล้ว +7

Less solidified off ball value than Barnes but I see what you’re saying in terms of value as a player

Like a lot of NBA players, RJ Barrett is pressured to play the modern style, which fights against the areas in which he excels and exposes his weaknesses.
RJ needs to drastically reduce the amount of threes he takes, and he needs to start his point of attack three feet closer to the basket.
He needs to step in to take his jumper which would improve shooting percentage and would help with his drives to the basket which is the strength of his game.
It's strange because RJ plays, practices, and works out with two guys who have the exact approach the would unlock his full potential. His countrymen and world teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his NBA teammate Jalen Brunson. Like Barrett, both guys are not blindingly quick so they use the mobility they have to simply get to anywhere from 15 feet and in to get off their shots. Both have great control with their movements, which comes with work.
They both primarily do the most damage in the mid-range as a result, when they do take threes, they are far more effective. SGA as a 6'5 guard has been one of the league leaders in points in the paint and Brunson at 6'0 leads guards in scoring 6 feet and in. I think Barrett could be right there with them.
As far as defense goes, RJ just needs to commit. However, the defensive side of the ball is really on the Knicks. Thibodeau has better defenders on the wing outside of Barrett. Like Brunson, they simply have to give him less on ball responsibility.
To sum up, RJ Barrett is like a singer who is trying to sing out of his range. Lower your register and lessen the time you're trying to hold the notes. 20 feet and in is where RJ can bloom.

RJ is a very young player that needs time for his game to mature. As a coach or as a fan you need to have patience. He will learn to be more efficient. He will improve his game in Toronto. This trade will end up looking like a steal for Toronto

your analysis is too micro tangled in numbers and facts that are skewed because it lacks the macro context of the team and environment he works for since draft night.
it's impossible because he plays for an impossible organization to understand 😂
his mom and dad are legit athletes, achievers and talented winners. He is all that too, but in my opinion the Knicks since Patrick Weing Era have imploded and display nothing sustainable to develop athletes, winning or anything worth watching except fluke flashes that the Knicks didn't actually develop.
In FIBA 2023, that's the best winning version of him the world has ever seen on a team and culture that's run correctly. That's how Canada won bronze and should have easily captured silver and possibly Gold.

RJ barrett is still so friggin young. Hes a mild mannered guy, who has to defer to that load Randle, and now Brunson (rightly so). ...but he still shines from time to time and I think took a step up from a personal confidence level in this past world tourney... he is/is gonna be a late bloomer. You don't work as hard as he does, be as athletic as he is, and as good as a person as he is, to not finally pit it all together and take his game to the next level.
As a guy whose been SICK sick the last 2.5 years and has basically stayed in and watched TV all day, including EVERY SINGLE knicks game (and post game lol), I can confidently say that it IS indeed Randle that is the issue.
And no, i'm not a hater, I ws the loudest loud mouth about extending him, and I have his Jersey. But again ive watched every game. You simply cannot understand why many of us KNOW that he is a HUGE issue unless you watch a large majority of knicks games.
Im not gonna get into the myriad of reasons as to why, because this comment will become an essay, but if I have to, I will.
And then when I point it all out you go and watch at least 27 of the 1st 30 games, then come back to me and admit what you never saw watching highlights and reading box scores

    • @Cashmoneymarv

He’s not that good he’s good but not that good you are ok to have him on your team but wouldn’t go out of your way to get him he isn’t great at anything just good at about everything he won’t be elite in any category cause he’s average or above average on most aspects of the game
