How to Make Everything Old Look New Again! Antique Vintage Shop & Sell

  • We're on a secret mission when we go to shop and stroll Antique Galleries of St. Petersburg! This stylish mall of designer, vintage and antique discoveries has a space that needs rediscovery...and our job is to slim it down and recast it quickly to keep it going.
    But what to do first? Shop! This big antique mall fills an entire 1960s bank building, and the upstairs is newly revamped with a lot of resellers who cater to collectors of art glass, modern/kitsch, French antiques and designer delights. We find a cool cat that always sells, a bodacious bunch of 1930s Czech spatter glass and pairs of dancer lamps that still grace 1950s vintage houses in the area.
    The next space we see is 50% off...but is that not enough? It's secret mission time, where we quietly review and pick the space of a dealer friend who needs to downsize desperately. Repricing? Let's go 75% off! Remerchandising? Absolutely! Best of all, some of the most wow factor stuff gets to migrate to my world of vintage and antiques, and we show what we picked and how it looks and is selling in new venues and at new prices! Everything old is new again...

    I could watch you all day long, George: you are so informative and go to such interesting places that are FULL of beautiful and wonderful things! That "Blackamore" TV lamp was interesting, I think you saw a similar piece at a place you were doing appraisals, except it was smaller maybe and on a wired stand that held the bulb? Sadly I can't spend all day enjoying your mellifluous voice. Thank you so much for all the very excellent content you release to the world :)

Thank you, again, for brightening up my day. (I've notice younger collectors are also interested in Czech glass here in Norway. They're decorating with bright colours. A mix of colours and patterns that seem to have come from the pages of the comic books!)

    Some really lovely pieces here. I particularly like the black vase with yellow spatter base. I have a fluted yellow cased milk glass vase with a black snake coiling up it, (unmarked Czech I believe…1920s/30s). Art glass and signed bronzes make me happy.
    I enjoy some pieces by my Aunt Yona who was a California Potter, and have a nice collection of wood carvings (figurative mostly), from Africa, and Indigenous West Coast Canadian…although my Yoruba pieces are the real stand-outs there.
    I have a selection of pottery pieces, but focus on no particular factory or Artist…just on pieces that catch my interest. I also have a small collection of figural carved gemstone statues…and antique kitchen tools and utensils.
    There is more of course, but you show enough of things in my areas of interest to keep me coming back. I wish you occasionally crossed the border into the Toronto area.🖤🇨🇦

    Good evening, George! I liked all of the crucifixes on that table. The solid white one, hanging on the wall I really liked. There was what looked like a statuette of a figure playing a trumpet, when you were showing the Sophistocat perfume, that really interested me. It looked like it might have been bronze. I have one of the tall orange and yellow swung vases that was my grandmother's. Not exactly my taste, but it was grandmother's, so I keep it. That Czech glass was beautiful. I tend to go more for the Czech pottery, though, in the browns, tans and cream colours. I definitely like your friend's taste in items! There was a milk glass vase, on the 1920s octagonal table, that looked like it used to be Goofus Glass...all of the paint was gone, though. Loved that bamboo shelf that was in your old space. I really liked that Austrian fish set. That Loetz bowl was fantastic! I liked all of those trench art pieces, and the bomb tail. All of those together made a really nice display. I liked the old propeller, too. There was a small pond boat, next to the small ship's wheel, that I really liked. That Blackamoor lamp looked like she had an ear of corn on her head 😂 That wash basin and bowl, that has damage, could be donated to me 😉🤣 I liked it. That was fun! Thanks for taking us along!!!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I like the crucifixes too! I noticed the trumpeter and forgot to speak about him. I remember buying swung vases for $15 and getting $35, and people saying I was crazy because who would want such a thing! I could easily mix Czech glass and pottery...I did see that ex-Goofus piece and ignored it because of the damage. The Loetz was fantastic indeed, and the trench art was one of the better collections of those I've seen. I'm glad you had fun and I'm excited to show the progress!

    • @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS
      @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheAntiqueNomad I have a pretty good-sized collection of crucifixes...and nowhere to hang them. I still like them. That trumpeter looked like it might have been a jazz influenced piece. I bet you wish you had all of those swung vases back that you sold for $35. They sell for considerably more than that now. Some of the Loetz can rival Tiffany, and that piece definitely fit into that spectrum.

    Question: do you have a "protoge" or someone that you are teaching your knowledge to exclusively?

    Im located near Placerville CA. Is sourcing the same up north as it is here? Very slim here. Is it good in Seattle or do you go sourcing across the country because lack of stuff on the west coast

      Placerville was a great place to source the last time I was there, but it's been awhile! I find plenty on the west coast, but it is more towards a certain era or type of thing...I find different stuff in the east, and it all together makes a fun combination of things to sell for me

    Hi, what are your thoughts about buying pieces that may have some damage for personal use not resale. Typically how much discount is fair?

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends on extent of damage, 20-80% depending

    29:11 What is the white piece shown here? 🤔 I have a lamp with the same design!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's Consolidated Glass Line 700, it was later made by other firms and I don't see lamps often

    George, or anyone have an idea what a red glass bottle that is almost flat (about 1.5" depth, 7" tall and 5" across" with a cork in it would be for? I can't find one like it anywhere! It has slight seams on the sides, and a "2" or an "S" on the bottom. It looks like blown glass though. I don't like listing something that I haven't identified or at least narrowed down the time period.
    Found a similar bottle but it has a different bottom than mine:

    What old did you make look new again? Nothing.

      The point was that we were making the old stuff in the space that had been forgotten look fresh. I do occasionally repurpose things, but that wasn't this video

    3:07 I think it's DISGRACEFUL to put items out "for show" / "not for sale" .. at an ANTIQUE CENTER ! I have seen this done MANY MANY times and I see NO POINT to it .
    If it's NOT FOR SALE ; BRING IT into your HOME. It's only going to frusterate your customers .
