A good return to unexplored waters...Bantock is like Sibelius - two glimmering composers, you don´t get a full pictire if you do not live for a while in Finland or Wales. The land, the hills, the lakesm the cliffs are well hidden in the bar tones...like a secret beggimg to be reaveled. Excellent - I got my day.
Ahhh! One of my favourites! Bantock is yet another somewhat neglected composer (though Hyperion did issue a series of his works conducted by Vernon Handley). Listening to this beautifully lyrical tone poem will probably make you wonder why he remains overlooked.
This gem of a composition will be presented this season by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by JoAnn Falletta (on February 21, 2019). Maestra Falletta plays more music of this era than any other "big orchestra" conductor in North America. In the past few concert seasons, she's programmed works by Bax, Carpenter, Dohnanyi, Gaubert, Gliere, Griffes, Paderewski, Pizzetti, Roussel, Rozsa, (Franz) Schmidt, (Florent) Schmitt, Schreker, Suk, Tcherepnin -- and that's just what I can think of off the top of my head.
Rimsky-Korsakov is meant to be one of the finest composers when it comes to orchestral colouring, but just listen to the mastery of orchestral colouring that Bantock shows here. 'Much-neglected composer' is a frequently used expression nowadays, but in his case, this is certainly true and it's hard understand why. Perhaps it's because he lacks one really famous 'hit' with a catchy title.
Ta muzyka maluje w mojej duszy , jest moim odkryciem , osobistym intymnym doświadczeniem sztuki...♥️

First class music by a first class composer. Decent performance, however the Handley/RPO is certainly superior and the one to go for.
