I have a hard time with most games because of my disability; even in SOD2, I can't drive because you have to be able to hold two buttons, and it's just too complicated. Having said that, I still try to play different types of games. I am so grateful that you have posted the guides. I have learned so much. You mentioned in the last video that you can be long-winded, but I appreciate that. You don't just say "do this"; you give reasons. I also understand that you provide alternate ways to accomplish the same goals. So, thanks. I can't believe it took me so long to finally start watching your videos. Honestly, you can think of Cryptic Fox for that because he is someone I watch pretty religiously. I've heard him mention your playing style, especially the hook-and-throw zombie technique.
I just started a new playthrough, been playing the game for years but this is my first time playing on Dread difficulty. I got the mission where one of your people wants to go with you to get supplies from a building. So I'm walking up to the building, and I can see at least a dozen zombies and 2 bloaters. I'm crouched down getting ready to do some damage with my crossbow when my companion just runs past me and walks right into a bloater. I'm so dumbfounded at the stupidity of it that I don't really even react to it, I just calmly take out the other bloater and start picking off zombies as they come out of the building. My genius of a companion starts moving around the outside of the building attacking regular zombies, all the while a plague zombie is attacking his back. By the time he gets to the other side of the building he has already fully infected with plague and his timer is 1/3 gone. If it wasn't for the fact that he has the immortal perk and he's one of my legacy heroes that already has all his skills maxed he probably would have been killed from the physical damage as well.
On my first playthrough right now and just got to the first plague heart. I watched the guide until he attacks the first plague heart because I wanted to try to do it myself. Big mistake. I took my military character in solo. Didn't bring the car because I wanted to be stealthy. Cleared the zombies in the house where the heart is. Threw a pipe bomb at the heart and then started going at it with a heavy weapon. Few zombies come in I panic when I realize fighting with a heavy weapon is very different from the normal melee weapons I've been using all game so I take damage and lose all my stamina. The heart releases the gas or whatever that I was unaware of so I take the full brunt of that as well. Popping everything I can, jump out the window and start trying to get away, zombies chase me down and kill me. There goes my military character and so much of it could have been avoided by knowing how the heart works and knowing I should have brought my car up to the house for a quick getaway instead of trying to be sneaky (I had played plenty of hours scouting and scavenging but always sneaky).
I've been playing for years and still hadn't realized the only way you discover some of each characters 4 traits is by hearing their stories as followers; thought they just reveal themselves over time. I don't see that as a negative though; any character you plan to keep for the long haul, use in forever communities, etc. are in part that good because they have good traits. So the earlier you identify who's got the traits, hero bonuses, etc. to keep long term that just helps you better plan 5th skill placement, not pass on a good recruit because you think you already have a good character with the same 5th skill, hero trait, etc. Keep up the good work other Brian!!
Loving all the state of decay content! Didn't know that every character has 4 traits. Also as a standard zone player watching your videos inspired me to challenge myself to a lethal zone playthrough, luckily I got a blood plague survivor within 2 minutes of rolling characters. And I just beat my first two plague hearts using your sledgehammer and energy drinks strat. Keep up all of the great work!
As a new player to this game this series has been a HUGE help, so much to learn in the game and as this being an old game not many update guides. So thank you!!
Your state of decay content is the best of all your videos and live no cap. No matter how many other games you play, you always come back to SOD2 and produce quality content over and over. Can’t wait to watch you play SOD3 💪
This guide is great. I have about 400 hours in this game and this guide is still teaching me a bunch of stuff i didnt know. Thanks, Brian for creating it.
Amazing series of tutorials, honestly helped me get a gradual grip on the gameplay. Was kind of stuck a lot of the time thinking about my next move, what I needed to do or get but this honestly helped me figure out a lot and be a bit more slow and plan my moves in a much more concise manner. Really awesome playthrough and I'm glad I wasn't the only one with the Hunting Crossbow and Echo-X2 Sniper Crossbow, over penetration just makes the "best" crossbows in the game kinda useless, Echo X1 is amazing though. Same OCD nature, nobody can sit without everything perfectly organised in their character inventory, a bit irritating you can't select and move honestly. Favorite vehicle has to be the repair van honestly, 12 slots of carrying capacity.😂
Randomly found your state of decay video on my feed got me playing again. Great videos and explanations man, looking forward to the next episode! Keep up the great work!
apparently if you put down a crapload of boomboxes between each c4 charge you can delay the 2nd (and then 3rd for lethal) explosion enough to do it all on one trigger, but if your economy is that high you could have done a drone strike and a frag grenade. It's probably safer to do the grenade first and then do the airstrike last but i like to drone strike first in case i miss then the heart won't be awake. rushing command center 3 is a little weird but if you do it before you get an antenna you can use the portable generator to qualify for the upgrade/start hacking and it's either an instant kill or you really want computers for the plague disrupter discount.
Gotta say I found your playthrough and I have been playing myself and I'm loving it. Can't wait to do a fresh playthrough with the knowledge I have now!
You can pass the time watching his old new player guide. It won't address the latest changes in the game, but they will still be enjoyable and they will teach you good habits.
"i wanna make a guide for new players to help them learn the game, i think 30 hours should be enough time to walk them thru it. im sure new players wont mind spending a week watching my guide"
Your frustration at the end of the video when you're trying to talk and the characters won't stop blathering on😅. Calmer than me, I tell them to shut up😂
Well what i usually do is get the car near the house with plague heart and drive around until i see it through window. Than get out on top of a car and shoot it or throw bombs at it through the windows or i use C4 and place it behind heart in stealth. But these options are not much usable in early game but you can tey it. The option with a car can be done even with the house you was in. You only need to make sure you see it atleas a little from a top of a car and on a note option with C4 you need tree kynda behind the plague heart And if you do it in right order you dont need to place one at the time try it sometimes.Only make sure you dont place those C4 right on top of each other but give them a little bit of space 😉
And sorry meybe i did tpye it wrong. 3 C4 place them all at once behind a plague heart but make sure there is like atleas lets say a 1 meter in beatwean them. Atleas one have to be behind a plague heart the rest close to it and if you can place them close behind with atleas a 1 meter beatwean c4 you can blow all 3 at once and plague heart get imidiatly destroyed. And it does not have to be exactly 1 meter it can be 50 or so only make sure they are not right on each other and wait a little bit before place them like place 1 wait 3 or 5 sec than place another. That is the reason why pleague heart dont register it if you spam them. If someone worrys about how expensive C4 are than sure on lethal they are but they are safe and on lower difficulty you have so much of everything that you dont even know what to do with it so idk.😀
I do this now and then as well, but the reason Brian doesn't is because he aspires to teach us cost efficient good habits to beating plague hearts that doesn't rely on car roofs etc, so that if we come across a plague heart you can't see from your car or you can't make c4 you still have tools to beat it.
@@sinisterplank3113 Well yeah but there is always ways to find resources or make them on your own in easy way for example having a chemist and computers and make ammo yourself max out chemist give two ammo from a workshop and spevialized co puters allow xou to make a c4 so i always have these two characters.
@Kuky 4kokyCZE you're right, but again that's not the point. The point is to teach tools that let's you handle stuff under -any- circumstances. If for any reason you find yourself without any of those things, you can use the tools learned here to pull through. Building habits that makes you confident to handle any situation under any circumstance.
Great Tutorial, but I alway wonder why you travel solo and not with a fellow survivor? I always hahve someone with me for extra storage, back-up, etc ...
Followers in the higher zones become more of a liability then a asset so I’m just so use to not bringing them I have built my play style around just being on my own. The AI just can’t keep up or respond properly to most situations and then you die trying to save them.
Like the majority of loot in the game, heavy weapons most commonly spawn in places that fit their theme and a lot of them are "industrial" tools so sheds, construction sites, house garages, mechanic shops, gardening or hardware stores, etc. most commonly have them. Using the map to check the names of locations is also helpful as most stores, houses, etc. look the same from afar (the game uses the same buildings models a lot) but the name will often give away what it is and if a location says it can have "materials" rucksacks that further increases the odds of it having "industrial" items including heavies.
Have you tried destroying a heart by shooting through window while stood on your car don't know if they changed tht as long as there isn't a juggernaut there zombies can't touch you ,ps don't think it matters which side of car you get in if playing solo
I’m a new player and was helping an enclave in plague territory. I wasn’t expecting them to turn hostile and try to kill me. Ended up getting in a gunfight and attracting a ton of zombies, including a screamer that wouldn’t shut up. 🥲
Totally disagree on followers. Just give them a Full-auto weapon with a suppressor, and they will kill almost everything without using actual ammo. Just never bring them when fighting Plague heart, and if you get ambushed , you can leave them behind as a bait and drive away. Zombies will despawn when you get further away, leave the follower safe to run back to you. Even on lethal, they will never die if you know when to retreat. Isnt this a New Player guide? Companion is a major part of the game play experience. It speed up everything so so much. Why are you making it harder for New players? Edit: Nobody told anyone to use anything. The point of the "guide" or "tips" is to give information. The point about Followers are weak is wrong. The only time I need to use it on Lethal is when the game bugs out anyway.
He typically doesnt try and "cheese" the game, and thats a borderline cheese tactic. Things get bad and just run and they will be fine is against the point of the game of trying to keep survivors alive. You are supposed to try your best to save them. I need the cheese tactics because I am decent at the game but not good...he doesnt. some of the challenge runs he has done I would have been dead inside of 5 minutes trying lol
If you listen to what he said, he said "I don't do this." He doesn't tell other people not to do it. And I agree with him. I hate using companions. Every time I'm trying to stealth around somewhere they screw it up. Not to mention that he does take a companion with him, gives them an assault rifle and puts a suppressor on it. I could also teach people to log off right before they lose a character to despawn everything and save there person but that’s cheating and I don’t play like that. Yes it is knowledge and I guess people have the right to choose how they play but they can learn that somewhere else because I don’t want anything to do with that kind of gameplay. Once you open the door to exploits when does it stop. I just avoid it all together.
@@BrianMenard Ah, sure. The AI is a mess, the games also have many "exploits". Like how standing on a car make you invincible to most of the enemies, or immediate NPC spawn. You said that your followers die because of the everlasting bugs then why is it wrong to use everythings inside the confine of the game to play? I mean , wouldnt using the back of the car to kill zombies also an exploit? You just play however you want, you love to do harder challenges in the past. I just think followers is a great tool to use, make a lot of sense even lore wise. You are just unintentionally leave out a chunk of a game for new players. Edit: I didnt defend the AI, it's more like working with what we have. Is it an "exploit" if you are running away and they just keep fighting? So you run further force them to actually stop getting stuck?

The stealth skill is actually 0% chance of making noise while fast searching when it's maxed, not just the 50% reduction that the game shows up.

Does loot respawn in those areas you already looted ?
Do different cars like a truck or a regular sedan affect gas usage
Yes some of the cars fuel last longer then others. The trucks and vans use fuel a lot faster then the smaller cars

With this new update, would it be worth it to go over bases, maps, character traits and their value? Or do those old videos/tutorials still hold up?
Yeah all of that is still the same bases might be alittle stronger and weaker with this update but for the most part it’s all the same
HI brain Menard you are the best game player of all time
Hey so I was wondering is there like a specific place to find heavy weapons if u don’t already have one or can other melee weapons be proficient
In harder difficulties, car against the widow, and a smoke bomb in the doorway before you start.
I haven't played in about three years, so these videos have been a great refresher on how to get back into it.
Great seeing your tips. Seeing you play just mare me purchase the game as well.
Its cheap on steam with th. Full package so. Yeah. I'll give It a try.
Have you tried destroying a heart by shooting through window while stood on your car don't know if they changed tht as long as there isn't a juggernaut there zombies can't touch you ,ps don't think it matters which side of car you get in if playing solo
What do you mean with putting her/him on base defense?
Means I am switching off that survivor and in doing so they stay at base and if zombies come to the base they will fight them off
It always annoys me when my 'neighbour' is all the way out in another town, especially when they keep asking for favours. 🤬
hei, how about to discuss duplicate glitch, you can dupe anything item
I’m a new player and was helping an enclave in plague territory. I wasn’t expecting them to turn hostile and try to kill me. Ended up getting in a gunfight and attracting a ton of zombies, including a screamer that wouldn’t shut up. 🥲
Same thing with me.. I was on nightmare armed only with a cross bow.. died real quick
That's bad luck there, with time you'll learn to recognize the cues in the dialog that tells you what to expect.
