  • African leaders are in Russia for an economic forum hosted by President Vladimir Putin.
Moscow says it wants to bring Africa closer, but in a polarized world after the war in Ukraine, that isn't an easy task.
The collapse of the Black Sea deal on Ukrainian grain exports is causing concern in Africa about rising food prices and shortages.
So can Putin reassure Africans he is a reliable partner?
And do African countries risk being caught in the middle of the crisis between Russia and the West?
    Presenter: Cyril Vanier
    Guests:
Victor Olevich - Lead Expert at the think-tank, Center for Actual Politics.
Eric Acha - Executive Director of the African Policy Forum.
Abdiwahab Sheikh Abdisamad - Chairman of the Horn of Africa Institute for Strategic Studies.

The media treats Africa as a country. " African nations depends on grains fron the Black Sea." There are 55 African countries if you include Western Sahara. How many depend on grains from Ukraine and Russia? . West Africans eat rice, cassava, yams, and corn. Most of the Ukraine grain goes to Europe and the Middle East, not African, but the media kepps saying BS.

Russia never killed any African leader, Russia never caused a civil war in any African country so they could be looting the resources. Russia never stole from Africa. Russia supported in their struggle against imperialism and European colonization. Russia dealt with Africa honestly as opposed to those with empty talk about democracy buy do the opposite in regard to self determination. The hypocrisy is currently on another level. Is it not the same NATO that bombed Serbia. Is it not the same NATO that destroyed Libya. Is it not the same NATO that was testing weapon systems in Afghanistan. The propaganda may be effective but the rest of the word has not forgotten some of these crimes.

I think your panelist in Luxembourg missed the point. Just recently the president of Kenya hinted that in order for Africa to speak with one voice, fewer presidents should travel to such events and empowering the AU and a handful number of presidents representing their counterparts was the best going forward. Now to the question of Russia being able to deliver or not, they have not choice but to deliver because thus is as existential a matter to Russia as it is to Africa. The only difference in the scenario is that Russia is not afraid or ashamed to consider itself an equal partner , something Western nations have so far been able to do. The Ukraine war has created an opportunity for African states and other states in similar situation, to detach themselves from the grips of Western powers and perhaps offer their citizen the real independence their fathers, mothers , brothers and sisters have fought and lost their lives for since the early or colonisation and the slave trade.

I in Southeast Asia believe that the closer move of South African countries and Russia is the consequence or result of the West's failure to help develop those nations ECONOMICALLY.
Western countries, in a general sense, can't effectively help rebuild poor developing nations' economic infrastructures. Many poor and developing countries used to be invaded and colonised by western countries and they are lwft behind without helping them. So these days many countries seek trade and investment from big countries or major trade partners that work better, china fpr example. Besides, Russia has a lot of natural resources like oil, gas, food, technologies, etc and more critically, many countries today feel more comfortable to work with china and russia becoz these two powers generally don't interfere other countries' internal affairs, while working with the west is too annoying.

The irony of Al Jazeera is that it is supposed to be a Gulf Arab organization, yet it functions as a quasi-mouthpiece of the conceptual "West." Its anchors are even primarily Europeans.
Propaganda mills have made quite a fuss about the "attendance" of this Africa-Russia summit versus the last one, suggesting that it speaks to "Russia's isolation." These mills lose sight of the fact that Russia _still has bilateral relations_ with all the African nations whose leaders attended the last Africa-Russia summit. Unlike the situation with the "West," Russia has no falling out with any African country via *sanctions* or other repressive measures. African leaders have _complained_ about how poorly they were treated at the 2022 _Africa-U.S._ summit, prompting them to *rethink how they will attend these **_Africa-to-one-nation_** conferences in the future.* Accordingly, rather than all Africa's leaders _flocking to meet one person,_ there's talk of _limiting attendance_ to fewer attendees, possibly via an AU envoy. So, the Africa-Russia summit attendance may be a sign of things to come rather than a reflection of _"Africa's alienation of Russia"_ or _"Russia's declining world relations."_

Many countries around our world are assisting Ukraine with humanitarian aid, weapons and support . Russia started this unwarranted act of terrorism and genocide.
