Kino is a chilling reflection of real people who have been in the system so long they can't adjust to life on the outside. Brooks was here.

It really is a very interesting parallel between Kino and Luthen there. Kino regained his humanity from having it ground down by the Empire, and sacrificed everything all at once so that others would have a chance to live and go free.
Luthen sacrifices bits of his humanity a day at a time in the fight against the Empire, unable to stop, but ultimately for the same purpose; a life and freedom for other people that he'll never get to enjoy.

RIP Kino, he was always looking out for the other prisoners. It's funny how the Empire is it's own worse enemy. If they didn't lie about the release of prisoners he wouldn't have turned on them.
Also Luthen is such an interesting counterpoint to the typical Rebel Hero. He who fights monsters and all.

I wouldn't assume Kino is gone - Andy Serkis has been doing press junkets for the upcoming season.

The best "Star Wars" in existence. I grew up watching the original trilogy and love them, but damn. Andor show just how evil and oppressive the Empire truely is. And the hows and whys the rebellion was born. Epic.

      @grayscales1864 ปีที่แล้ว +5

big agree, this show is so well done and since it's so much more grounded than other star wars we see more of how everyday people are actually affected day-to-day by the empire. Blowing up a planet with a giant weapon is obviously evil, but you don't get the ground-level, invasive/pervasive spread of fucked-uppery like in this show

    • @deanthemachine8879

@@grayscales1864it’s wild how much it adds to the setting with the simple aspect of showing how people live outside of Jedi, smugglers, scavengers, and Imperials. Just showing how people pay their bills and try to get by adds a depth I didn’t know I needed and now I don’t want to live without. It’s funny to watch a new show and be like “wait. What does [X character] actually do when they’re not on an adventure to save the galaxy?”

There it is again, that drumbeat in Andor's life... Start climbing... climb.
...also, this series is seriously one of my favourite things in recent years. Not just Star Wars, but just generally favourite shows. It's fantastic. It's such a high bar to set that I'm not sure if we'll see anything that lives up to int in a long time (even the next season... but I'm hopeful).
Also I know you've already watched it, but just in case... post credits scene on the last episode.

The boys in that prison really practicing their Angela Davis. Kino is an inspiration to anyone struggling towards a liberation they almost certainly won't see themselves.

  • @artboymoy

    Here it comes....
The jailbreak was awesome and Kino's rallying speech was great and then Luthen's monologue... I want more of this Star Wars. The Mon Mothma set up was great as well. She has a big decision to make. The prison arc is great but the Heist arc is still my favorite. We see that Andor isn't about taking credit for anything or to stick out and get noticed. In this episode, we see that Andor is a bit like Luthen in pushing other people to being the "hero" the Rebellion needs. Finding out that Lonni is a mole was great.
The show pulls from our own history of Rebellions. There needs to be a mass uprising to pull them off successfully and many often end up in failure because they don't have a clear enough message, they don't have the backing of the people, and they face a well armed and brutal force to crack down on them. That's why in this show we see Luthen do the Aldahni heist to make the Empire really crack down hard on the population to quell any future insurrections. But in doing so we have a massive amount of people taking notice.

Probably the best piece of Star Wars merch to come out of this show is a T-shirt reading "Kino Loy Swim School"

Part of what I loved about the original trilogy was the grand battle between good and evil, and sometimes that's what you need for a great story. But, if Star Wars is going to continue to grow as a franchise, it needs to expand with new characters and their conflicts as well - this is why I think *Rogue One* is the best of all the non-original movies, and also *Andor* the best series so far. Luthen's monologue was brilliant - the line "I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them" stood out especially. When you're fighting a far more powerful enemy with the stakes this high, you can't afford to fight clean, and still there is the terrible cost.

Not sure if it was this episode where you asked what the prisoners were making with their forced labor or the next ep, and whether anyone answered, but I read it as them making parts for the Death Star
