My friends thought I was crazy but knew I was knowledgeable on the ex-Soviet Union. I stayed in apartments for weeks in Kiev, Odessa, Dnipro and smaller towns. I did go off the beaten track, mingled with locals, rode on board old Soviet trams, masrutkhas, trains and met amazingly beautiful devushkas (women), genshenya (men), babushkas(old ladies) and tasted local fare at many flea markets and also the many famous 'Puxtata Kacha' outlets. The people are most friendly, helpful and curious about us far away foreigners. Ukraine is a huge, wonderful place to visit, safe to stay, rather cheap too! Hats off to Bald for showcasing the good, bad and many still-Soviet side of Ukraine ! Hmm...if only damn Putin would keep his hands off Ukraine..(sigh) !

Don't worry Bald, I don't think most people have to try very hard to "avoid" that abandoned place, down an undrivable road and guarded by military posts in rural Ukraine.
Respect to Bald for getting kicked out a taxi and walking 7 miles to get some content for us 👊👏
And I just realised he probably walked at least the same distance back before finding a car that could drive him to town again.
It’s also good for health I hate my mostly sedentary job 😁

Poor guy in the train... So sad about his reality and look now. It's total war in Ukraine. Hope he can go through this.
Like you Bald, I went alone to Ukraine from Malaysia in summer 2010,winters of 2011, 2015 & 2107 speaking only a little Russian.
Hmm...if only damn Putin would keep his hands off Ukraine..(sigh) !
genshenya (men)... Well, it's actually a women, but nevermind =)
Don't call men "genshenya", they might get you totally wrong ;)

This channel is evolving into a Mosaic hunting playground.
Uhhh so bad he missed another chance to see some awesome mosaics in Dnipro, roaming along a random district instead
He's doing the world a service, I think. Those Soviet mosaics are slowly disappearing across the former Soviet states. If no one records them, the next generations won't know about the mosaics.
As much as people don't like the soviet union (such as myself lmao), I absolutely love the artificial culture so much

It actually wasn't. He went the opposite way from the front.
This was an abandoned military base в/ч 55468, air defense training anti-aircraft battalion. If you want to see what's inside, search "в/ч 55468" on TH-cam. There are videos.
Honestly bald this is what we love to see. just love your daily interactions with the people just normal conversations it does not have to be any adventure just literally want to see how they live and go to work everything that you do Is amazing work
Watching this now , is numbing , as it’s no longer…..Mariupol …you’ve done a service of historic proportion , not knowing it at the time

Can't be certain they are shots fired in anger
There’s an active conflict zone outside Mariupol. The 36th Naval Infantry Brigade is stationed there right now for the foreseeable year or two due to the rotational period. You’ll be able to hear artillery as well as shots fired from small arms on a daily closer towards the eastern edge of Mariupol.

I'm from Dnipro) That wasn't the most criminal part of the city, it's another part of left bank. Although it's difficult to find actual gopniks anywhere in Ukraine now, that's 90s phenomenon)
The other part that is fake is that place he was going to , its easy to get there , a small village is about 1 maybe 2 km away and a dirt road goes direct to that abandoned place . Also there is no shooting in that area , its well away from the war zone .
I'm Lithuanian and this was kind of... shocking and eye opening
Seeing all the familiar sights, everything looking so close to home, seeing you driving past that road and walking down it, talking about how there's a war going on just a dozen miles away in a place that looks so frightfully familiar... made this all seem so surreal and very scary
Thank you for making this video

I am from India and the line 13:04 to 13:15 applies to our politicians as well, we have had such useless, shameless and corrupt politicians. They steal from the poor and live a good life, but my parents and their generation kept electing such shameless people because of which the politics of our country has become such that mostly selfish people think of joining politics and good people stay out because they know what sorts of consequences they might face, worst being death.
If it makes you feel better, politicians in the US are just as bad
