"why couldn't you finish the tattoo?" proceeds to squirm excessively and cry for it to stop. Don't know how that would slow down or affect any tattoo artist with a 4 hour time constraint on a 6+ hour tattoo 🙄
My gun and garter tattoo was basically me planking for 4 hours straight when it got to the inside. So much details take a lot of time and it needs to be done right. I can't imagine what to do for a cover up for a garter other than a full leg piece.
Forreal 😂 I didn't understand why she was talking smack about how Tatu Baby didn't finish, I'd much rather have an unfinished tattoo than a rushed one.
We had to stop a tattoo on the inside of my upper arm after 4 hours. My body noped out, I was dizzy and the whole thing was bleeding like crazy. If my artist would've messed that up by trying to rush it or to keep going when no colour would stick, I think I would've killed him. It's way easier to finish a tattoo than fix it.

Lol my big tattoos have never been more then a hour of work..least at a time. Me and my artist do stages so it heals better/faster. Line work, shade, then if there's color color. If it's smaller it's all one go but like sitting for that long I can't imagine
Love how humble tattoo baby is for the rework challenge, everyone else is so quick to blame the canvas and/or make excuses. Despite the canvas being a bit rude to her, still remains respectful and definitely redeems herself with solid work. Respect.
Yeah, didn’t care for the canvas. Dave compliments her on her appearance and instead of saying thank you, she just keeps talking about her “crappy” tattoo. Thing is, she’s not that attractive. Tattoo Baby is way hotter

As a heavily tattooed person, I must say: people need to start taking tattoo aftercare seriously. I'm pretty sure that most of the tattoos that look really faded in different spots have been poorly taken care of during the healing process. It's not always the tattoo artist fault.
I only have a big tattoo but yeah. I'm kinda surprised that most of them are already almost gone already...
Not even just during the healing process but by not wearing sunscreen or wearing uv resistant clothing they're causing accelerated fading as well
Very true! I misunderstood my artists instructions on cleaning after my first tattoo and I caused ink to fall out in some spots (my niece also grabbed my arm during the healing and tore a scab off it), but since I've been super vigilant about sunscreen on it
Yes!! I came to the comments to see if anybody else was having questions about the king Tut! Like... that faded in 1 year is rough and I suppose it's possible but in that placement? sounds to me like sunscreen could've saved a lot of that
What have you found to be the best aftercare. Different artists and different websites I’ve looked at all day something different it’s confusing
One of the things I learned from this show is that the ones who say they are the best never are .
The "tattoo god" is very questionable. I was hoping for a more solid black instead of more fading... I wonder how that tattoo looks now lol

You should see cooking shows. Same thing. The ones that are humble and genuinely love it and are happy to be there are so teachable and are the best.
gotta love how despite getting the hardest tattoo to cover/ the canvas he didn't want, Sausage is still incredibly polite and friendly to his canvas.
Not to mention he absolutely executed the tattoo perfectly

Kinda looks like she bought into the producers stirring drama. She was repeating herself a lot. Im guessing just parroting stuff that had been whispered in her ear. Definitely annoying.

Wow! It's almost like big intricate tattoos need more then 4 hours to be done, and tattooing is such a difficult thing it shouldn't be a race! How crazy of an idea is that!

Honestly? That tattoo even "fixed" was TERRIBLE quality and should mr have taken more than 4 hours. The artist was nice, but the design of the flowers was not good.

I love how Tatu Baby actually recognizes that she made an error, and instead of getting caught up in her own ego she actually works with the canvas to talk about what she did wrong so that she can fix it. She took that criticism and learned from it, that's a damn good skill
Wasn't the main problem the u finished tattoo that she bad to match to the ink on the other leg? It seems like the task was just to big to be completed in the time limit, especially on such a sensitive area.
The judges are so inconsistent about when deviating from the challenge is punishable and when it was "creative" or the correct choice.
in the end it's the customer who decides, he has to live with the tattoo not the judges
@@Mad9977 Yeah it's about customer satisfaction, but if the challenge is to make a cover up you should do that and not something else. Imagine your boss tell you to build a car and instead you build a pair of scissors because it's easier.

@@Peinfull87 as they mentioned it, he not only reworked it but added the new parts to it, the size would have been way to large to make something intelligent out of it. Sometimes you need to re-think what you do in life.
tv shows always have narratives with who they want to win and lose and who's gonna do well
When Junior said his tattoo was ONE YEAR OLD, I was shocked. It looked maybe 8 years old, and to say that is generous.
This tattoo artist is so full of himself! He didn't think there was anything wrong. The canvas had dark skin, the artist should have known it would fade faster. He wasn't thinking about the person, and that truly pissed me off! He should have gotten it Right the first time!

I’m glad he said that because even great artist can have bad days there is always a chance it can turn out how you didn’t want. If you can’t handle that then don’t get a tattoo or you better have enough money for removal lol
She also said it faded and it’s like girl that’s what tattoos do! They start fading right away they’ll never be as clean as when you first got it done

Gian Karle is one of the best participants ever, imho. In his season he won the most challenges with freaking gorgeous tattoos in many styles. Ryan Ashley won the finale because that season they so wanted a woman to win. He’s been robbed

And the fucking final challenge was a joke. "Watercolor tattoo"... really? Come on. the final challenge should be a serious one, in a style that is well consolidated in tattooing history. Watercolor shit is trendy bullshit and people who understand tattooing know that a tattoo like that won't last shit.

@@problemimentali I did just watch the season lmao and to me personally Ryan smashed just as much as Gian did. Either one of them was a perfectly justifiable winner tbh. In fact there were times where I would've given tattoo of the day to someone other than Gian but its just a matter of opinion. And tbh I think the judges were trippin on the portrait challenge Ryan did a safe tattoo that day for me and unquestionably whooped Kevin. But thats just my opinion. I think to reduce her win to just being a woman is incredibly unfair and minimizes how much raw talent she has.
The nurse looked so much better. This shows that when they rush the artist it’s a huge risk for a Terrible result that doesn’t truly represent the artist’s skill and an unhappy canvas
It looks better but it’s still shit. I don’t know why she got rid of the smoke in the background, now it’s a workover with two new elements slapped on it instead of it looking like a whole complete tattoo. Plus the two triggers on the gun…

I don’t understand why they’d have an artist do a pinup who clearly doesn’t do figurative work. Really, from face to feet the figure was distorted. There’s no neck, the torso is too short. I could go on & on. The artist would’ve been better off making a composite using a stencil base & adding elements, than trying to freehand a figure when shes not able to accurately draw the human form.

Tattoo Baby took that criticism so incredibly well and she was able to point out her old mistakes and fix them without taking any of the harsh words to heart, she’s such a trooper!

@@kennanlukacs this tattoo, based on when the season aired and when the redemption came up, was a year old like he said. My full color quarter sleeve tattoo is almost 4 and a half years old. It's as bright as when it healed. I work out in the sun more times than i wish, heck i just mowed 5 acres today in the sun, Yea sun fades it. However black is supposed to last longer than color. This was faded cause St Marq wasn't heavy at all, he was probably in a hurry (obviously competition and such) and did a lighter pass than he should have. It's a poor excuse to say the sun fades it when you don't want to blame the artist.
@@turtwignerd7440 I have no problem blaming the artist, but I’ve encountered family who had a tattoo done and in a year it was light grey just from fading because the ink took to their skin differently. Looked fantastic when it first healed. You’re probably right, I just hate when people deny that tattoos fade at all.

That’s extremely unfortunate for Junior with the Egyptian tattoo that he had to get a re-work in the first place :( He looked so happy when he first got it and honestly I would be too. That tattoo was so realistic and I thought the lighting was spot on but for him one year later to say it’s his least favorite now just makes it so sad. I still wanna know the reason for it fading so quickly. Like did Marq not go deep enough for the color to stay? Or was it during the healing process?
Yea I was thinking the same thing. Quality of colour and how deep they go is one thing but with delicate tattoos like that you need to keep it out of the sun, moisturise it consistently and put on sunscreen every day. I mean he said "I can't wait to wear a tanktop again" um... Yea dude maybe not

Also skin with more pigmentation fades much quicker so its a mix of both not hydrating enough, and also just hyper pigmentation
I've seen a lot of poorly taken care of tattoos, but they usually don't get that bad that quickly. Even with darker skin. If it was on a weird part of the body it might be different, but this is the upper arm. Unless he went to the beach without sunscreen every single day I don't think all of that could happen from poor care alone. It could be part of the problem; but I've come to notice that the work these tattoo artists do outside of the show holds up a lot better than the work they do in the show..
Artist here. It seems either a lack of experience with deeper toned skin pr just simply lack of contrast. It seems he treated the skin the same as a lighter skin tone, which you can’t do. So with that, it will seem more faded.
the REDEMPTION part is one of the best feature for me. it was a chance for the artists and the canvas to reunite and work it out, both the tattoo itself and the relationship too.
I have zero doubts that the producers want the redemption canvases to be angry for ratings or whatever, but it's genuinely nice to see an artist and a canvas get along and reach common ground
That sun moon tattoo honestly the best on this list, and I even shy away from colour tattoos but that was stunning

Baby did an AMAZING job! Even Sausage! Tisha's style is not really in my taste but her redemption was awesome, everyone here is so talented!
The style Tisha had to follow was "pin up" for the competition, not her own style.
The odd thing is that Taisha is actually an amazing artist who in this show came off as a generic artist who's nothing special and one of the weaker artists.
@AyoJayArr pin up isn't a style, it's a theme. A pin up can be done in any style.
The lady who did the nurse is right. I can only imagine it being super stressful for the artists, especially if bad blood starts to form. I'm glad they were both happy in the end!
I hate how St. Marq was like "I'm obviously here to help some poor schmuck." Like there wouldn't be anyone who'd be pissed at him.
But to be honest, his tattoo wasn't that bad. It just faded really badly. His attitude is kinda annoying though

It might just be me, but I like how the faded King Tut looks. It looks like it's actually from history that way. But I do understand how a lot of people like their tattoos to look fresh and snappy.
Ya it looks good it just need like an actual outline to fix it. The fade looked cool but it could have been a little better with harsher outlines.
It was also on its first year of fading, it will only fade more into a blurry oblivion

surprised at how calm and polite the lady with the pin up was. most of the clients are usually very confrontational, but despite the pin up girl being terrible she wasn’t being disrespectful towards her. i respect her demeanor.

I don’t think this show, and others like it, work for a few reasons. But the biggest is that the goal is to complete challenges adhering to the parameters of a game show… on another human being’s body. Reworking that sun & moon tattoo, giving the canvas what they probably envisioned the first go around was the most ethical choice. Did it showcase his amazing cover-up skills? Nope, but it gave the canvas ink she can look at positively now and feel confident about. The canvas doesn’t give a fuck if the tattoo artist creates a super complex cover up and wins that week of the competition if it’s not something they want on their body. This guy is a great tattoo artist because of his customer service minded approach combined with excellent technical skills and an eye for design.

These redemptions (most of the time) show how insane some artists actually are without a time limit
She walked up to the artist like she was going to fight her, I did not like her attitude. She also mentioned how she likes to wear revealing clothes and that’s probably why her tattoo faded, I’m guessing she had it showing (in the sun) before it healed. She’s lucky the tattoo artists even considered finishing the tattoo. I’m glad she liked it in the end at least and tattoo artist was happy with her work :)

Girls thought Gian didn't do anything special, he effin did. He did the same thing as sausage. Added and even made the original tattoo look way more finesse than before. He corrected it.
What gets me, is that people come back and complain about faded tattoos. It's all about aftercare. If you don't want that tattoo to fade, listen to what your artist says after the work is complete. I still moisturise mine with coconut cream, and it really keeps the colours vibrant.
While that is mostly true, a lot of artists don’t tattoo deep enough and the Pharaoh tattoo’s major fault was the fact that St Marq had no clue how to properly tattoo melanated skin (darks not dark enough and not enough negative space).
You know what would make inkmaster into a damn good show? Always have the canvases choose instead of the artists. It would constantly challenge the artists' abilities and really show us who's the best at their craft. No more winning solely based on who is better at trying to f the others over

I legit thought the Egyptian tattoo had to be at least five years when I heard it was only a year I screamed, no tattoo should look like that after only 1 year
Clips like these prove why tattoo shows shouldn't have time restraints, these pieces go on people's bodies for the rest of their lives. Not every canvas gets a free rework/coverup
Well, I mean, Gian DID cover the preexistent tattoo, but with the same design; so he met the challenge, just in an easier way. He still had to put new lines, which the original one didn't have, and pack it really well with color to make it vibrant and pop.
Gian is by far one of the best artists this show has seen. He mastered all of the weird challenges they gave him, he did so well with so many styles. All round legend
I agree, he communicated with his client and fixed a piece they liked, as well as added flowers to fit her lower back better. His retouching completely brightened and defined the original tattoo.
Not a fan of the rework outcome on the pharaoh. The sketch made it look like I’d be faded on the sides and detailed in the face and neck, like coming out of a mist. Also all those cracks around the eyes makes it look weird when there’s barely or none anywhere else on the tattoo.
Also yes, the tattoo was wildly faded for just one year. I’d be either annoyed or straight up pissed if that was me.

Ty’eshas reworks ended up looking really good. She’s definitely talented, I haven’t seen anyone here mention it

Sausage is by far the best tattoo artist in the competition simply because he almost ALWAYS got the worse canvas and only delivered amazing work
baby and Ty'Esha both approached it correctly.. even st's body language when junior asked "do you want to make it right" he said "I do" but he shook his head no signaling he truly doesn't believe there is anything wrong with it. he is so diluted in his own hype.
That guys Egyptian tattoo, the canvas was kind of jerky about it but so was the artist. I can’t believe a tattoo that dark looking became so damn LIGHT after only 1 year!
That could be either because the artist didn’t put the ink deep enough or the canvas didn’t properly take care of it after or a combo of both
The canvas wasn't rude like it has been for 2 year and he hates it . So u would be mad tooo . After getting soo much criticism right . And tattoo artist was very.... rude and like kinda sooo proud
They probably had the tattoo in the sun (before it fully healed) also the way it heals affects the way the ink will look too
The thing is while Tatu Baby isn’t the best artist on the show due to time and rushing, and like how the judges praise her, she is a very humble and sweet person and when she isn’t on a time limit her work actually is good.
Craig just seems like the sweetest guy from his reworking tattoo!! He was so polite, soft spoken, and he's so respectful. He changed the design and he made it so perfect!! I love it :D

Baby's canvas wouldn't have been able to sit the original tattoo if it went to the back. Hope she calmed the drama down for off camera.
She has to just be amping up the camera because having an unfinished tattoo is not a devastating problem, just get it finished. Tattoos often taken multiple sessions, especially when you can't sit.
Could have Tatu baby finish it, or literally anyone else. Any artist could finish that tattoo.
True. But before I was tattooed, I was advised to take pain killers before my appointment so the needle wouldn't feel as intense.

I’m actually so happy for Baby and her redemption client. She was rightfully wary but it really paid off letting baby take her time. Happy for them both!!!
I wish the smoke background would've been added on the military pin up. It was on the sketch and stencil but I guess she didn't want it after all. Would've been a good addition.

Agreed. I’m glad the client is happy since it’s in memory of her father & that’s what matters. But artistically, in terms of craftsmanship it’s the worst tattoo on this show. Maybe it’s bc I do figurative work but literally everything is wrong on that pinup, from face to torso, hands too small, feet so busted the artist just gave up & covered them.
one thing to note about these redos or touch ups these canvases want, most fail to remember that what they want is sometimes impossible to complete within the time frame the show is giving them. so they should really expect some fading or blurring later on due to the artist not having the time to properly implement lasting techniques that they would otherwise do in their own shops. stress of such time constraints can also cause the artist to rush or make a mistake that they wouldn't normally make.
the canvases that approach their artist with understanding and without hostility are amazing. same with the artists that don't blame the canvas and work together with them to finish and make a tattoo both can be happy with.
Tatu Baby’s redemption was so damn wholesome man. She legit wanted to help her canvas and the canvas had faith. No huge arguments or anything. 😭
If they took the drama or conflict out and had moments of healthy communication between artist and canvas explain why they have issues for wanting fix the tattoos could be super cool!

The only problem I saw with the Egyptian tat is the fading. I liked the texture of it originally. But I am a more simple person. I don’t like too much going on.
I think it's ironic that the girl Tatu Baby did was completing about an unfinished garter but had another short tat in the same place on the other leg.
I honestly like the concept of the sun and moon tattoo before Gian fixed it was just poorly executed before Gian got in there and made it better. I also like the Egyptian tattoo St Marq did the first time before he truly finished it.
Tatu Baby is really humble and I love her energy! So glad she could finish the tattoo for that girl!

Gee, I wonder why... I'm not good with pain so I don't have a tattoo. I'm thin so a tattoo anywhere on me will probably hurt _a lot._ And I know the thighs is a super sensitive spot. So,,,why ask for,,,,,,a thigh tattoo,,,,,,,,,if you can't take it and then complain when the artist couldn't finish originally in a short amount of time......?
It is wild to watch this show now, especially the early episodes, seeing how far the industry has come, and seeing what artists were supposedly the best in the industry at the time. Wild!
Dave Navarro is actually a good host. Looking at his past I would have never thought thought he would be a good host. Keeps the conversation going and is personal. He improvises well.
The last guy was so kind with his words I'm so glad he and his canvas were happy with the outcome!

I think the redemptions are really nice. Its a much better experience for the canvas and artist. Less stress and more attention to the process. Closer to what the experience would be like in the real world
I’m just glad when people went back for redemption to confront their artists they weren’t being rude and disrespectful about it and cussing them out, a lot of them think confronting their artists means coming in and off the bat cursing at them calling them mames

My older sister got a bunch of tattoos and what she told me about taking care of them is that you should actually try and do it. Cause one of her tattoos faded because she was constantly picking the film like membrane during the after care
I saw an image once of someone that had like road rash that took off the top layers of their skin over their tattoo. You could see that under those layers of skin, the tattoo was bright and fresh, as if it had just been done.
Shows what happens when you get a 1 on 1, and plenty of time with an artist instead of being rushed in a competition💜
Man I can not blame St. Marq at all for Junior failing to do the aftercare of his tattoo. A tattoo does not fade that badly without something happening on the customer's side.
I love how respectful Craig and his client were to each other and love how he was able to show that pop of the gun under the garter! Loved that tattoo for sure!
I don’t think the re worked one was unfair, it was creative. Bet he coulda done either way. Now she gets her original tattoo but better.
