This was an awesome video you two. Love the in depth walk-around of your PIO unit, showing us every compartment, all the siren controls, etc. I also love that you two use more accurate and realistic terminology while describing incidents and what you two do, instead of more simplified explanations. I'd say a good chunk of your viewers have some knowledge when it comes to this stuff, so it's nice to see things explained correctly and in depth. Love love LOVE what you two are doing with this TH-cam series. Very entertaining, keep up the great work!
I was with Roanoke County Fire Department as an EMT volunteer rescue. I appreciate the new gear you guys have now. When I ran in the mid 1980s, the only guys with bunker/ turnout gear were FFs, not EMTs, and my squad ( now defunct due to embezzlement) had us run with a jumpsuit with our squad logo on the back. Thanks for the video!

I love you you know your radio equipment. It's such a critical thing to be familiar with and you would be surprised at how many in emergency services aren't! Love the work!

Glad to see that dimmers exist. I have sometimes found it dangerous when I am driving past emergency vehicles at night with the bright lights blinding me.
They should always be on full for a response!
I use dim for on scene.
@@justanotheraviator2357 many lightbars we have don't have the option to manually switch it on or off, but as soon as it gets dark it automatically turns into night modewith dimmes lights and shorter flashes
@@EnjoyFirefighting Every major light bar (and many aux. lights) vendor has a "dimmer" wire in the harness, whether that is hooked to a switch, or a photocell, or as is the case for most emergency vehicles simply not hooked up at all, is upto the Owner/Outfitter.

Great video! I was down in Clemente park that day also for a baseball tournament and it was moving to see the turnout. Not being from Colorado but watching and reading about that day was heart wrenching but good to see the community come together to remember was a moment I will never forget.
I’m a Denver boy living in KS at the moment but I Love South Metro and love this Channel! It would be awesome to get a Behind the scenes look or a day in the life of one of your Arson\Fire Investigators! Working on becoming a Fire Cop myself someday soon.
That was one nice set-up since it had been previously set-up, so you got some extra benefits. What you two do being PIOs looks like a lot of fun, and you are very good at it too. Great video coverage too.

VHF Radio could also be used for coms with ARES operators if the local repeaters are programed into it
You need the team wendy helmet retention system. I have it for my helmet and it makes the chin strap basically pointless as the rachet system is very effective just like a regular fire helmet
@southmetropio, where do you get velcro patches small enough to fit on that portion of the H6 radio strap?
what software do you guys use for MDC's map navigation software.? Judging by your video... we need to upgrade ours in my city.BAD!!
Love the vids and the channel, but 1 question. Are you guys actual certified fire fighters?
Don’t mean to be confrontational Tactical but whether or not they are “actual certified firefighters” has no importance. This is public relations, customer service, public information and access at is finest! They do incredible work at this department and Connor and Eric produce incredible, quality content indicative of the department.

Jay Spencer In other places, PIO is a position held by a certified firefighter who has performed regular firefighting duties previously. Usually they are captains or some sort of ranked officer. He was just wondering how they do it at So. Metro
they are Public Information Officers.. look it up
This is four years old, Eric I believe has or had FF training, Connor at this time did not have FF training however she did either after this or before this video did take command training in order for her to be able to be command (this is seen in the video where Eric was first in and took command).

I'm a Firefighter in the UK and I was wonder if you would be able to do a video on Command and Control, and Command support. I have used these skills a lot on incidents in varying size and was wondering how you guys did it?
What radio strap is he wearing? I have an APX radio as well and have been looking for a strap and I like the nylon. Also what holder for the radio?

Oh.... and that is One Sweet PIO set up.... all we had was a "OneStep instant camera" and a Note pad... we swiped the note pads from our Secretary when she was at lunch... We only had a $55 dollar PIO budget...

@@joeyknight8272 yes we are a private fire and EMS service we cover special events. We have an engine and a ladder four ambulances. We also do large animal rescue.
@@seanconlin8712 interesting how do you collect money? Set peoples homes on fire again for not paying for putting out the fire?
@@joeyknight8272 We are contracted to cover special events to provide Fire and EMS Coverage. Such as fall fairs or Auction Sales. We have covered horse auctions were we were on site to cover medical coverage in case a person was injured or got sick plus fire coverage for the barns where the horse's were kept. Alot of our business is with the horse industry. We also are on call for large animal rescue so if a horse or any other type of large animal is in a situation such as stuck in mud and can't get out we can be called out to assistance and expertise.

Can pio's in your department act in the roll of a regular firefighter if needed such as adding man power on larger incidents
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO Eric you told us that you have with the Department for 12 years. I figures that meant you had been a fire fighter. I would have thought that you could be a crew member on an Engine CO. or Ladder/Truck Co. Seems once again in life I am incorrect. I like the suggestion that your truck should get some EMS gear. Also all Staff Vehicles should have an AED & Oxygen along with @ least 1 ABC fire extinguisher & 1 CO2 Extinguisher.
