I'm in the same boat. I just took a gigantic walk in the local hills and picked up various medicinal plants. I am still sore two days later, but it was nice and it's worth doing.
I find nature to be extremely cathartic. Every time I have hit a low spot in my life I turn to nature for relief. It recharges my batteries. We live on remote forested farmland. I will even go out and cook over an open fire just so I can enjoy nature and our pets and animals at the same time. It takes you away from phones, iPads and the news. It’s ok to distance yourself from humanity when you need to, even temporarily. I was not born to be a city dweller. I tend to be a lone wolf by nature. I love my serenity. It’s my lifeline...

I stayed outside in the woods as a child. We were very poor, but I thought I was the fairy princess when I was in those woods roaming around. I need to get back to my roots. Thank you for the inspiration. ♥️
I was the same way , as a child I stayed in the woods make believing, picking berries, climbing trees and exploring. As an adult you don’t get to do things like that as much. Too much other stuff you are responsible for. I really miss being a child. I know it sounds crazy but I do.
I grew up like you....very poor by most standards. I spent hours exploring the woods .It was a great life. We were isolated from the real world...it was great !
I know her and I can tell you this is no act, she is one of the greatest people I have ever met . She is super creative and a really talented musician I cannot gloat enough about her. So proud to see everything she has done in life.
Excellent! I lived, secretly, in a national park in Australia for a year when I was younger. I loved every minute of every day, hunting, gathering, repairing, cooking, living! Thankfully, no health issues arose and the rangers never caught me. I would do it again tomorrow! I enjoyed watching this. Thanks.

Only in our mind, that can be so easily changed. Property with a modest RV Trailer can get you there. Even renting/leasing the land for camping throughout the year, is an idea. Pay for electric utilities Northern Mich ‘bout $300 yr. and cover Property Taxes.

That is a life I wish I had lived! Wow. This winter in southeastern Pennsylvania we had a good snow storm. Inspired by watching backpackers like Shrug emery, I built a snow fort in my backyard and went out and slept it in it that night. It was beautiful and peaceful sleep. I never did that before, but thought it’s something in would like to do before my life is over. I’m learning to get outside and fulfill the child within me. As a child I lived the outdoors. Your life looks amazing! Thanks for bringing it to us.

This has to be the most beautiful and the most meaningful video that i have seen about wilderness living. I admire....no, I love you and what you have done. I have always wild camped. I own a cabin with three friends in the Manistee National Forest. Yes, I'm from West Michigan. I like carpentry and building. Not to mention fishing and hunting. Keep filming and inspiring us.
Thanks for sharing that much of your life, it brought back lots of memories growing up in Alaska 72 years ago. I get thinking about those days and sometimes, I get tears. Yes, a grown old man can shed them now and then. That place you guys were caretakers, has seen a lot of them, I was going to work there but, I got a Winter caretaker job at a really nice lodge, very remote. You are still young and have many good years left as I did. The music was great and you do have a really nice voice when you're not spazing out, LOL. Waiting for the next video. Great job.
Inspirational. It seems my passions as a child were just slapped down, as I was force into a square hole when I wanted a round one. Its so great to see that others have been able to follow their passions instead of the wind.
I can't stop watching...you are amazing and living the life I have always dreamed of. My husband says we are too old now but it doesn't keep me from dreaming. I literally feel my blood pressure drop when I'm in the outdoors, sitting around a campfire and listening to the sounds of the night. Please keep the videos coming.
At 75, I was recuperating from repacking my pack, which must weigh 55 lbs, when I caught your fantastic video. The Best. It answered many questions i had about your background. Also, for some odd reason, i felt my eyes getting all kinda wet and stuff and had to swipe at them a little....keep on keepin' on.
Both you and Dave put out such great videos and I’m so glad I found your channels. I’m a retired US Navy Seabee and was lucky enough to spend three years in Adak, Alaska and it was such a beautiful place to live. I used to hike, camp, and fish all around the island and some of my fondest memories from my career are in Alaska. Now I spend my time teaching my kids about the outdoors and will be buying my 10 year old daughter a 10x12 canvas tent and wood stove this thanksgiving so she and I can do some hot tent camping this winter. When I was a kid I went to Girl Scout Camp every summer for 2 weeks - so exciting. My family had a place on Lake Table Rock in Missouri where we would go. I would sit on the porch and just SMELL the trees and the other out door scents. I always wanted a place in the woods, and now, when I am really OLD (73 this month) I live on 16.9 acres in the middle of the woods. Love it!!!. Thanks for being you. Love your channel. Just now watching this video. It brings back memories. I grew up in central Michigan and I also learned to ski when I joined my high school ski club. We went to Cannonsburg every week. It was a tiny ski area. I wish I had gone to Isle Royale. Instead I went on to MSU and joined the military to see the world. Now, I'm retired in Colorado in the mountains to wake up every morning and see brilliance all around me and to listen to the wind humming through the pines. Thanks for making such high quality videos and brightening our day with your personality. Nothing like being outside to make us happy!

Found this after watching some wonderful videos of her and her husband building their own cabin. This fills my heart. Tears on my cheeks. Not totally where to start with this sorta very nature-based and diy lifestyle but so far have worked at some farms and gardens and farmers markets and done some building projects, a lot of travel and trying out huge variety of experiences, etc. Anyway, thanks so much for celebrating and sharing so much of your life story to inspire others and for your deep relationship with nature. My beloved dog is an amazing adventure companion too!

Sad to see that her boyfriend(?) lost his life, but I hope your daughter has made a full recovery from the accident. I was close to being declared dead after a car accident in my early 20s and still have permanent injuries from it, but it was an experience that made me appreciate life, and also drives my interest in and appreciation of outdoor activities.
OMGosh Bahahaha!!!! That’s exactly what I mean!! Lololol!! That’s “SO LIKE ME” to mess up my words!!! Lololol. My girls are going to laugh so hard at this and say, “Daddy would be laughing so hard at you mama!! (Their daddy passed away..). Thank you for watching my video.. no she hasn’t recovered (as of yet) but still holds to Hope that she will. Her level of injury left her at a quadriplegic level. The anniversary date just passed and that’s always hard. Yes, it was sad that “Jimmy” died that day. A family of 7 and one died and one became paralyzed. Everyone else was ok. Shannon (my daughter) suffered survivors guilt for a while because she had asked jimmy to switch seats with her at the last rest stop. That feeling left as she realized that sometimes things are worse than death.. she had gotten to the point where she just wish God would take her because she didn’t want to live that way no more. It was a few years later her dad died. We could never go back home because it was too old to modify for a wheel chair.. life threw us some hard curves but we are making it. We are still here and we still have a purpose. Thank you for replying and laughing and correcting me in the way their dad would.. it brought back a good feeling. I’m so happy you survived that crash.. I’m sure you have a great testimony. ❤️ (no, I’m not gay.. lol). 😁

I made myself a promise to go 'forest bathing' this year as many hours as possible in the woods. I have 50 acres, much of it wilderness, 500' of riverfront, 5 acre island, swamp, beaver pond....But now I am 76, have had congestive heart failure {5 heart attacks!} & two legs that hurt when I walk. And so I did not even go into the woods last year but stayed on the creek within my 3 acre yard. But if I have to crawl part way back & forth, this year I will go into my woods, enjoy nature for several hours before I crawl back, probably to the beaver pond {I will bring apples for them} - So thanks for the inspiration. Wow that look on your face after Mongolia was priceless. Having gone the distance, can't take one more day.

This has to be the most beautiful and the most meaningful video that i have seen about wilderness living. I admire....no, I love you and what you have done. I have always wild camped. I own a cabin with three friends in the Manistee National Forest. Yes, I'm from West Michigan. I like carpentry and building. Not to mention fishing and hunting. Keep filming and inspiring us.

Thanks for sharing that much of your life, it brought back lots of memories growing up in Alaska 72 years ago. I get thinking about those days and sometimes, I get tears. Yes, a grown old man can shed them now and then. That place you guys were caretakers, has seen a lot of them, I was going to work there but, I got a Winter caretaker job at a really nice lodge, very remote. You are still young and have many good years left as I did. The music was great and you do have a really nice voice when you're not spazing out, LOL. Waiting for the next video. Great job.

Inspirational. It seems my passions as a child were just slapped down, as I was force into a square hole when I wanted a round one. Its so great to see that others have been able to follow their passions instead of the wind.
I can't stop watching...you are amazing and living the life I have always dreamed of. My husband says we are too old now but it doesn't keep me from dreaming. I literally feel my blood pressure drop when I'm in the outdoors, sitting around a campfire and listening to the sounds of the night. Please keep the videos coming.
At 75, I was recuperating from repacking my pack, which must weigh 55 lbs, when I caught your fantastic video. The Best. It answered many questions i had about your background. Also, for some odd reason, i felt my eyes getting all kinda wet and stuff and had to swipe at them a little....keep on keepin' on.

Both you and Dave put out such great videos and I’m so glad I found your channels. I’m a retired US Navy Seabee and was lucky enough to spend three years in Adak, Alaska and it was such a beautiful place to live. I used to hike, camp, and fish all around the island and some of my fondest memories from my career are in Alaska. Now I spend my time teaching my kids about the outdoors and will be buying my 10 year old daughter a 10x12 canvas tent and wood stove this thanksgiving so she and I can do some hot tent camping this winter. Thank you and your husband for sharing your stories. Looking forward to watching more.

When I was a kid I went to Girl Scout Camp every summer for 2 weeks - so exciting. My family had a place on Lake Table Rock in Missouri where we would go. I would sit on the porch and just SMELL the trees and the other out door scents. I always wanted a place in the woods, and now, when I am really OLD (73 this month) I live on 16.9 acres in the middle of the woods. Love it!!!. Thanks for being you. Love your channel. And Dave's, too.

Just now watching this video. It brings back memories. I grew up in central Michigan and I also learned to ski when I joined my high school ski club. We went to Cannonsburg every week. It was a tiny ski area. I wish I had gone to Isle Royale. Instead I went on to MSU and joined the military to see the world. Now, I'm retired in Colorado in the mountains to wake up every morning and see brilliance all around me and to listen to the wind humming through the pines. Thanks for making such high quality videos and brightening our day with your personality. Nothing like being outside to make us happy!

Found this after watching some wonderful videos of her and her husband building their own cabin. This fills my heart. Tears on my cheeks. Not totally where to start with this sorta very nature-based and diy lifestyle but so far have worked at some farms and gardens and farmers markets and done some building projects, a lot of travel and trying out huge variety of experiences, etc. Anyway, thanks so much for celebrating and sharing so much of your life story to inspire others and for your deep relationship with nature. My beloved dog is an amazing adventure companion too!

I watched you vid, by the way. Sad to see that her boyfriend(?) lost his life, but I hope your daughter has made a full recovery from the accident. I was close to being declared dead after a car accident in my early 20s and still have permanent injuries from it, but it was an experience that made me appreciate life, and also drives my interest in and appreciation of outdoor activities.
OMGosh Bahahaha!!!! That’s exactly what I mean!! Lololol!! That’s “SO LIKE ME” to mess up my words!!! Lololol. My girls are going to laugh so hard at this and say, “Daddy would be laughing so hard at you mama!! (Their daddy passed away..).
Thank you for watching my video.. no she hasn’t recovered (as of yet) but still holds to Hope that she will. Her level of injury left her at a quadriplegic level. The anniversary date just passed and that’s always hard. Yes, it was sad that “Jimmy” died that day. A family of 7 and one died and one became paralyzed. Everyone else was ok. Shannon (my daughter) suffered survivors guilt for a while because she had asked jimmy to switch seats with her at the last rest stop. That feeling left as she realized that sometimes things are worse than death.. she had gotten to the point where she just wish God would take her because she didn’t want to live that way no more. It was a few years later her dad died. We could never go back home because it was too old to modify for a wheel chair.. life threw us some hard curves but we are making it. We are still here and we still have a purpose.

I made myself a promise to go 'forest bathing' this year as many hours as possible in the woods. I have 50 acres, much of it wilderness, 500' of riverfront, 5 acre island, swamp, beaver pond....But now I am 76, have had congestive heart failure {5 heart attacks!} & two legs that hurt when I walk. And so I did not even go into the woods last year but stayed on the creek within my 3 acre yard. But if I have to crawl part way back & forth, this year I will go into my woods, enjoy nature for several hours before I crawl back, probably to the beaver pond {I will bring apples for them} - So thanks for the inspiration. Wow that look on your face after Mongolia was priceless. Having gone the distance, can't take one more day.
