I was planning on uploading this video on wednesday like normal but the editing took a lot longer than I was anticipating so I apologize! A lot of you guys wanted to know what happened after my audition, and so I thought it would be fun to talk to you guys about 2 auditions i've done and my thoughts on becoming an idol. This video is a little bit long but I hope you guys enjoy anyways!

When she said the reason she liked kpop is bc of the representation of Asians in the media…that hit so hard. I don’t know any Asian Americans who also enjoy kpop-all of my friends who do are white and it’s hard. Bc while we all love kpop, the way I love it is a bit different. It gave me confidence and filled my pride. I learned to love myself for being Asian bc of it🥺
But kpop isn't really true representation of asian americans/asian diaspora. Its just the popularization and normalization of asian/korean media being consumed in the west. Koreans are obviously going to be the main "represented" group in korean media cuz duh korean media will portray koreans ofc. Maybe to some it gives hope and happiness that their ethnic group/race is shown on screen a bit more in the west like seeing bts in the malls or nyc time square boards, but its not a accurate portrayal of asian diaspora representation. We're still undercut in the west despite the popularity of kpop/easian media. Theres plenty of talented asian americans born in america (or whatever country) who dont get enough opportunities or attention they deserve and we still have the problem where asian actors get constantly recycled in Hollywood, and we dont have enough stories about us at all and especially ones that arent stereotyping us heavily or arent a part of some quaigon asian festish

Out of all the audition videos I watched, I was instantly attracted to you the most. Not just your rapping skills but the wit and sense of your verses, and the personality and vibe you gave off from that short clip. I am subscribed to your channel ever since and love the (random) content you put out. Once in a while I come to listen to “baby in blue” and just letting you know, your song “playboy” is in the top 25 most listened to songs on my Spotify. (I checked it yesterday and was surprised myself 😂)

Wow. Ngl, that speach at the end really lifted my mood and I really admire your mindset. It’s been hard for me the past few months, being a junior in high school makes me really busy and wonder what I want to achieve with my life and how to achieve happiness. Thus I really admire your mindset, bravery and how your impact (even if it’s only small) can make the world a better place. I guess what I wanted to do is just to thank you for giving me hope.
As a smaller artist, I really respect the initiative and confidence it takes to put yourself out there and audition! You are so talented and I think you're just at the beginning of your journey! keep going!

14:16 this really hit home🥲 I got into kpop around 10 years ago when I was a super young impressionable middle schooler. Also being from the US, it sucks that during that time there wasn’t a lot of Asian representation in the media. In addition, I didn’t really have a big asian community aside from my family. I was teased a lot for being Asian and having the traditional Asian eyes. Got called ling ling and other derogatory terms a few times and was asked if I ate dogs. So yeah… during that time there’s no surprise that I held some hatred towards my features and culture just because no one ever seemed to understand it or outright made fun of it.
Kpop was literally like opening my eyes to a whole new world. Even if I’m not Korean, I was still inspired by all the idols I saw. They were pretty, handsome, talented, and successful individuals that shared some of the features that I was made fun of. They were cool and fashionable instead of the boring, nerdy asian the media used to stereotype back then. I remember seeing SNSD’s IGAB for the first time and just loving their clothes, makeup, hair and music video set. I remember seeing Tiffany’s eyesmile and I was just floored. Cause she looked SO pretty and adorable with her beautiful eyes, which made me realize my eyes were also pretty and adorable when I smiled! I honestly don’t know if I’d have openly accepted and loved my culture and my features at that age if not for kpop. And of course, that’s not to say I wasn’t also heavily influenced by the Korean beauty standards. Like being very pale and thin with a thigh gap, and having a very specific face shape. I definitely experienced some insecurities in that sense, but at least I wasn’t affected as heavily by the western, eurocentric beauty standards that I looked even less like. This was super long but sometimes it’s nice to look back at that time and appreciate all that kpop had done for me.

I mean, coming from an unbiased point of view, there are many girls that hold equal or maybe more talent than her, thus no, it's not a total loss.
Based on Jake's journey, it the rate is 500:1 so it is indeed a tough battle just to be a trainee at hybe labels

lmao i remember.. when i was so passionate to become an idol, i submitted the audition for bighit and i actually got accepted, but my parents refused to let me fly to LA bc the flight tickets were too expensive bc i was a bit too late 💀💀 and that was probably when i was 13

To be honest, you’re an amazing idol contender! At first your looks reminded me of Olivia Hye (Loona) and your rapping was amazing. I watched your baby in blue video and I was convinced it deserved to be on Spotify! Maybe there’s not a place for you in bighit, but somewhere there’s a company which finds you to fit their ideal idol position, somewhere there is a viewer, enchanted by you, don’t lose courage! Everyone will support you no matter what
I just realised I was listening to you for 17 min straight without even distracted you have great storytelling skills

Your message and reasoning behind auditioning (other than loving music) is so amazing, honestly. Wanting to have a positive impact on people no matter what career you end up with, is a powerful thing.

I literally cried because I want to be an artist. I was very disappointed to my self that I can't bring out the best of me when I was about to film and send to companies that have a global audition.
Thankfully I watched this video. Now I understand that I should be easy to my self, like don't be disappointed if I can't make it today and be proud to my self that atleast I tried and still working on it. I should know the reason why I'm doing this and know what I really want to do and to be.

I very vaguely remember someone saying that the Plus Girl Group audition was just a PR stunt to draw attention to the group and that BigHit had already chosen the members for the upcoming group from their existing trainees before the auditions. I doubt that's true, but I think about it sometimes because I see all these talented girls auditioning and they didn't get in.

From what I have seen I feel the same even though I listen mainly to only BTS but I feel P Nation is giving the same kinda freedom that BH gave to BTS that actually made them that big and even Yoongi mentioned it in recent interview.. Creative freedom is necessary for artists.. But in addition to that P Nation team seems like more fun as Psy is already globally well known and is successful individual so I think he keeps it more fun.. The glow up of Jessi is amazing and I am loving her solo career rn
