I feel like they have similar build, speed and talent.
Not a SUPERSTAR, but a slightly above average center that can give you a solid double-double on any given night.
I'm really waiting to see how quick he can be with the other NBA big men.. I feel like he moves like his legs weigh 300lbs themselves

All great points. I just saw him play for the first time against the huskies or whatever. He had to be a one-man team, and by the end he looked pretty worn out, so they lost. But this kid has insane potential.
I still don't buy this small ball thing. I believe it's just as situational as having a limited slow big man. IMO the key will be developing his playmaking. His size advantage gives him a unique ability to survey the floor. This is what nick nurse is working on with embiid this season. If opponents are lacking a real big, it's BBQ chicken all day as shaq would say. They simply need multiple defenders to stop someone like this...which means a teammate is going to be open all the time
They literally don’t need multiple defenders to stop this dude 😭😭 he’d get locked up by sub par 7 footers. He can’t space the floor or guard the small ball pick and roll. His post offensive game is inflated as there’s not to many guys that can match his size in college. This won’t be the case in the league, he’ll be a solid role player at best. Similar to Boban.
@@Lucciii32 Why do you think so? When it comes to basketball, size and strength makes up for a lot of flaws. Many teams play a 6'10 or under big man nowadays. Someone that size can't even contest a 7'4 monster's hook shot, or prevent his 300lb frame from backing them down

I think he’d be a great pickup for Toronto. Aside from being from Canada, he could slide right into Poetl’s position which would allow them to trade Jacob, and improve his playmaking under the guidance of Kelly Olynyck. His timeline, being an older rookie, would fit in well with Barnes, Barrett n Quickly too.
You would keep Poeltl to move him to the bench when the time is right, and you would move Kelly to the PF spot.
I agree with this video. The one thing that so-called analysts are missing about him is upside. Edey hasn’t really played basketball that long. he has improved exponentially. This is a weak draft so he should be picked higher than what he’s projected. I do worry about him being run off the floor. But he’s got so much potential.
I think he could turn into a Yao. just keep working those jumpers

OKC is the best landing spot for him the spacing & playmakers is going to set Edey up for success early on also if he continues to develop on being a versatile player then that would definitely help him thrive in the league.

The best thing for Edey's development is to be drafted by a contender like the Bucks, Thunder, or Knicks. These teams wouldn't necessarily need him to contribute immediately, which would allow him to properly adapt to the professional level.

I still think he works in San Antonio or OKC next to Wembanyama or Chet
Or to a lesser degree, in Toronto next to Olynyk.
I think the key is to pair him with a big whose strengths/flaws are compatible with Edey's strengths/weaknesses

ive been saying it for months. if the Thunder get him, that puts Chet at the 4, J Williams at the 3. OKC will be in the WCF next season and title contenders for the next 5+ years.
Doesn't remotely fit the OKC system offensively or defensively
why not someone in between. I don't think he'll ever have the touch of yao ming but hopefully he stays healthier than yao and actually be a solid starting center and maybe even all-star
Edey's development could mirror Brook Lopez, learning the 3 and becoming a great rim protector in drop coverage
Lopez was one of the most skilled post bigs coming into the league. Edey is not even close to as skilles

Zach Edey is a non-shooting high usage back to the basket center that can't switch on defense and can only do drop coverage on PNR. Not a good combination for modern times. He is also unable to rim run and catch lobs athletically. I don't see it but I wish the best for him to figure it out
Don't do boban like that man. An undrafted guy who once average 11 and 8 in 20min in the playoffs and has almost 10 years of nba career is far from bust. If you wanna talk about bust, it should be hasheem thabeet.
He’s got a killer hook and great offensive awareness but in the title game his defense concerned me he got put in a blender on multiple occasions

He was the Serbian League MVP. In EuroLeague, he won "MVP of Round 10" in 2013, not of the whole league.

if a guy, who's career highlight is appearing on John Wick movie, has a spot in NBA, Zach for sure has a spot in NBA.
What we know is this. That the NBA is going back to needing bigs to win. Denver has proved that last couple of years, Minnesota is now proving that and if you don't have a big to at least slow up Wemby, life is going to be difficult.

Unfortunately, Edey was born 15 years too late. His game is not fit in today’s game.
He’d be a good bench player though. Like a back-up Center playing 10-12 minutes a games.
He is definitely better than Boban. I don't see an argument there.
But against Yao, I would say pretty even. Yao has better shooting and better handles, but Zach is quicker, stronger and plays better defense.
But yeah, Edey was born two decades too late.

Can't agree more. He complements Wemby well. Wemby is skillful but too light. He cannot defend 250 260 pounds fellow down low. Zach can. He can drop low and not come out from the paint area. Wemby can stay one step behind the arc and try to block every three points shot launched.

I am going to go out on a limb and say Zach will be a future NBA MVP. The game will change and goes in cycle. You starting to see the big men coming back like Jokic and Embiid, the last MVPs were all centers.
Not unless the 3 point shot goes away. I would make 1 change to the 3 immediately which would take 5% away - Shooters feet must both start and end in 3 point territory.
Boban. I watched the championship game and the UCONN center gave him fits with just hustle and quickness and even seemed to be able to get better post position because he could get to the spot first consistently. The NBA is gonna eat him up, and guys like Jalen Green and Antman will be salivating for the opportunity to posterize him.
He is slow. I saw him for the first time in the championship game. He air balled a free throw. Then tried to double fake a layup and missed. I had no idea he was considered a star

@@Baylorbetterthanbrown Shooting is a skill that most NBA players work on and improve on as their career progresses. So that's also something that Zach can improve on. NBA teams now have skills coaches including a shooting coach.

His lane agility numbers were a second faster than KDs were, and his 3/4 court speed was identical to KDs.
@@tray22 being tested in ideal condition VS adjusting to in-game speed are very different
@canadianchungus701 True but skills like that scale. I would expect his on court and in-game speeds to be near KDs since under ideal conditions, they were similar. If they don't compare at all, the league wouldn't have them even rested in that way.
@@tray22 not necessarily - NBA draft combine shows plenty of players tearing up all sorts of times only to never be drafted or be out of the league.
Edey is dominant in NCAA only because the next tallest guy is probably 4-8 inches shorted than him and lighter. The only upside to Edey is that he has worked hard in each season at Purdue and shows a tonne of upside. And with the weak draft class, he might go very high or fall really low.

He played almost all the minutes in the tournament. I can't believe the people that say he's a second round or an undrafted pick. He's obviously better than majority of backup centers. And this draft is super weak, this shouldn't even be a debate He's a lottery pick. If he falls, he'll go to Denver and be fine.
