When I was young. ( 60"s ) I wanted to be a gemologist. Or geologist. At that time in history. Jobs just did not pay very well. So I eventually became a Chef. I sure missed out. But I still love and collect rocks. & jems. ( a rock hound )

I’ve had a quick scan of the comments and I don’t think lighting has been discussed yet so I’ll ask: Why don’t you simulate the various lighting conditions that either enhance and detract from the beauty of the gem when you are making episode? If you can set up these various light views, from the old incandescent and fluorescents through to modern LED and ultraviolet lighting it would be a very helpful service to novice and experienced gem enthusiasts. Also, if you combined the lighting with very close motion viewing, you would be providing a comprehensive educational experience that many of us (in remote locations) don’t have access to. I love the show, keep up the great work. Chip from Moresby, via Geraldton, Western Australia. 👍😎.

With the emerald, right before she said its from the US my mind went to North Carolina! This lady in town must have rock hounded in one of the public mines there and brought back a bunch of materials to sell. She didn't know what she was selling but she was selling for a really fair price and I was content. I bought something opaque hexagonal with 3 sides intact that she thought was emerald.. But I presume possibly apatite. Id love to visit North Carolina and get a big raw hexagonal specimen of emerald.. Idc if super clear or opaque.. Just the natural beautiful hexagonal structure is amazing on its own to me.

I've always looked at sapphires, deep deep blue , as a reflection of mine and my wife's relationship. It's deep into the darkest parts of life , we keep it secretive , but at the right angles it's raging blue fire. It's a matter of perspective.
North Carolina is the place I hope to buy a get away home . We want one for just specimen hunting . The state is loaded with a huge multitude of mineral variations. Hiddenite ...

Tanzanite is my favorite gemstone following flag black opal from lightning ridge, Australia.
Tanzanite is, for the most part, yellow Zoisite, heated up to 800 degrees F for a night in a campfire in Tanzania. It is almost. Perfectly without occlusions and is becoming scarce. It is pleochristic. This mean s if you look at it from one side it's 💜 purple. Turn it 90% and it is Cornflower blue rivaling Kashmir Sapphire. Cutting top side up blue gives far less weight but is far more rare and expensive. It's promo began with Tiffany in NYC, one of the big world jewelers. IMHO they are in descending order Harry Winston, Cartier, Van Kleff & Carpels & Tiffanys. They must be cut deep to show full color saturation. Diamond Simulants are available which fooled me without my refractometer. 🐥♥️

Zambian Emeralds are a tad blueish with almost no inclusions. Out of the many raw emeralds I've found on the beach at known Galleon Wreck sites in Florida after 🌀s. they float and stay on top. There's only 2 llet left. I know where 'they r.
