If you can't find Compositing Mode. (Invisible in Sony Vegas Pro 15)
As you can see 3 lines to left of screen
Click and choose edit visible button set.
Now you can click compositing mode.

It would be nice to know why we have to do certain steps. It's good to be able to parrot tricks like this, but knowing why we need to duplicate the clips and add the bars teaches about the software works as a whole.
