What's the cost of rent here?

Depends on the neighbourhood, but rental costs have been climbing. Housing got really expensive in Toronto and now many people have moved down the road. Rental properties have been converted so that the owners can charge higher rents. I'm paying about $1200 for a one bedroom apartment downtown.

Maybe in the fields like nursing, skilled trades and unskilled labour yes. White collar corporate wise, not really.

Im a Filipino who lives in downtown near Main and Ottawa Streets. Downtown HamOnt is gentrifying with mixed income areas. There are more expensive Victorian homes and estates at the foot of the Escarpment but the area around Barton west of Ottawa St is where most of the cities low income people are situated (though this area too is slowly gentrifying). You wont find another city with a character like Hamilton’s (except maybe downtown Toronto since Toronto became a city in 1834 and Hamilton 1846).

@@ontariofirs7347 Main and Ottawa is lower city, but it isn't part of the downtown core. More east end.

@@seanwebb605 The area around Ottawa St North dates back to at least the 1910s-1920s. Areas of the same age near downtown Toronto are considered downtown
