We cruised Bob's Big Boy on Whitter Blvd. in Whittier from Oceanview to Laurel, u turn and back we would go, all night! Remember the Whittier Quad? Home of the famous Hinshaws Dept. store. Myself and my two sisters graduated from MHS, class' of 1964, 1966 and me 1968. Fun and simple times with great music! Oh and the great summer nights at the Sundown Drive In. What I would give to go back for maybe a month or so. Thanks for sharing your memories. Go Oilers!
Got to remember, back in these days Mtb was a rich city. Many deemed it as 'The Beverly Hills of the East Side'. Lots of oil was discovered in Mtb in the early 1900's . Enough to supply most of CA. North of Lincoln Ave, there were at least 600 oil wells pumping 24/7. Although. Standard Oil owned the oil rights, Mtb still received an abundance tax proceeds year after year. Mtb went from a farm community to a residential city. Offering nice schools, bus lines, police, fire depts, library, etc.
I never realized that till now. I went there in the late 50s and it seems like all the seniors had cars but not me. So I wore a sports jacket all the time and considered myself a loner like James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause.
yeah, montebello is nothing like that now.... i live in monetebllo, and never seen old footage !!!! thank you for uploading !!! if u have n e more please upload ! sooo beautiful !!!!!
Went to Montebello High, Eastmont Jr. High, Montebello Park Elementary. Graduated Montebello High 1967. Now it looks like a prison. Skateboarded down Wilcox towards the miniature golf course and almost killed myself! Oh, the good ole days!
I also went to those same schools, and graduated in 1964. Went to Eastmont for just 1 year because my elementary school in South San Gabriel was annexed into the Montebello school district. I was supposed to go to Rosemead H.S. like my brother, but glad I went to Montebello instead. I worked at Eastside Dairy. It was torn down for the Pomona freeway ( Hwy 60). Anyone remember the Eastside Dairy on North San Gabriel Blvd? Good times.
@@Unclezippy1 Hi, I knew him only slightly. We didn't run in the same circles. He was pretty popular and very involved in school activities, I saw at 2 of our reunions. Do you know him?
I remember wilcox was a dirt road up until '59 or 60 i guess. Me and my brothers used to beg Mom to take Wilcox back home because it was like an off road adventure. Hence..the new pavement in the video. Wow brings back memories.
the video is great as matter of fact i am a oiler graduted class of 2006. however The controversy about the Mexican flag it is not fault of the Montebello students class of 2006 because, the school was completely lock down while the students from different high school came to are school and places the Mexican flag in our flag pole. As matter fact I was in c-building when it happen. I don’t think it was the right thinks to do but, they were protesting against a bill that indicate if you were helping or talking to a immigrant it was consider a crime. Therefore if you were not there you don’t have the right to talk because, you don’t know what really happen. Also people that are thinking about sending Mexican back to their country or killing them. You are repeating history of hate against a minority like for example; the Jews holocaust, the native America genocide, Arminian genocide, the discrimination of African American people, discrimination against gay or lesbian , in now immigrant. please stop the hate.
A week after this incident, I interviewed staff, principle, teachers, students and Law Enforcement. They did exactly what they were supposed to do. The school was in a Lock Down situation and everyone did exactly what they were told to do. I know that many unrealistic observers made unrealistic statements concerning this event. So the flag was altered and the American Flag was turned upside down. So What. No one got hurt and these fools from El Rancho and Whittier High School made their stupid statement. Just So everyone knows, ten minutes after this unruly crowd left, the Montebello Staff corrected the flag placement and cleaned up all the debris that were left by the these protestors. Yeah an American flag has significance, as a Vietnam Vet I'm fully aware of the disappointment of these young thugs. But this was not a combat or battle issue. Let it go and do not blame the MHS students or staff. Montebello High School is just as good as in the past, if not better. I know the author of this video and his poltical view. Richard Barnes was a good man, who in my opimion still lived in the early 60's. Remember the MHS was mostly white.and conservative Republican. I know, I was one of the few Hispanics who didn't try to act white. So many of the anti-now opinions come from the older white Graduates, who hate the fact that this fine school is now predominantly Hispanic.
Amazing film. Montebello was a great school My brother graduated in 71. Shame how the school has gone done hill since. Now it is known throughout the world as the school that flew the Mexican flag over the American flag.
Here we go... the Racist comments.. Can there be just one freaking video that one can enjoy without having to discuss race!!???? Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Were all one race people, the human race...... Enjoy the video and move on... This is getting so old now...
