Good video. I used the Christmas ball like you, but I used my cordless grinder with a .040 inch thick metal cutting disk you can buy at any big box hardware store and it won't fly apart on plastic. I used masking tape like you to shield the ball half while cutting it. I put double sided tape on a piece of board I clamped to my workbench and pressed the ball half to it. I also used masking tape to further tape it down to the board. After cutting it had the melted pieces sticking to the edges also. I used 150 grit sandpaper to flatten the bottom surface then moved down to 240 grit. It wasn't necessary to polish the bottom in my build so I stopped there. Tamiya makes a color tint paint in several colors if tinting is desired. I've heard that colored dyes work as well.
This is a great video! Christmas stuff is already hitting the stores, so I am keeping my eye out for different shaped bubbles! Thanks for the how to, cutting through the tape is a great tip , I was trying to cut next to it , and having questionable results.
I couldn't agree more, those cutting disks are bloody awful aren't they. They do a good job of what they need to do, but you need to go through a few of them each cutting session because they snap 🤦🏻♂️🤣 great insight into where to obtain resources to create the bubble tops! Thanks for sharing
So basically bubble tops are where you find them! Very cool video and you’re right about those cutting discs ,they are very dangerous. Wear safety glasses!
@@user-styrenelive505 Do you have a link (Or name, part #, manufacturer, etc.) for these wheels? I checked out Lowes and Amazon and can only find larger ones (4.5 inches). Thank you so much!

@@Jonzcustomshop yeah cutting through the tape allows you to mark it out better and if you skip there’s less chance of scratching the bubble
