I like how the exhaust sound really smooth, i mean i like my bike to be loud, but this is new to me that i appreciated when the exhaust is smooth and quiet.
Dude this video was amazing. Just the right amount of education, good pacing, fun wheelies and all around exciting to watch! Keep making more vids like this please :D
You all probably dont give a shit but does anybody know a method to log back into an Instagram account? I was stupid forgot the account password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Aaron Lincoln I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I did a demo ride of a 2011 Ninja 1000 and loved it. Such a great combination of performance and comfort. I can only imagine how good it is now after two updates.
Kevin Van de voorde out of the 650 category Honda’s CBR650F smashes the Ninja 650. Bummed Honda doesn’t make a big displacement sport tourer anymore, the VFR800 lacked the power the Ninja 1000 has, Honda dominates the middleweight class where Kawi’s got the heavyweight. Honda also seems to have overall better fit and finish to...
MGTOW DIRT BIKER I can agree with that. Yamaha can build a gem of a engine. If you ever follow one though you’ll have a epileptic seizure from how bad the tail light vibrates on a Yamaha lol. Kawi builds a quality product, solid engine choices, reliable. I would agree that there fit and finish I behind only Honda in terms of the big Japanese brands, I went to a Yamaha/Kawi dealer and sat on both. The MT07 is definitely the more popular choice around my area cause they are cheap, but the z650/ninja 650 felt better.
Even the older N1k's needed taller gearing. I geared up 1 tooth in the front and switched to a 190/55 (from 190/50) rear tire on my 2k12. The combination really made the bike much nicer for commutes on the freeway in the southwest US where speed limits can be 70-75mph. Even with it geared up it has no issues picking up the front end in the first couple gears with just the throttle.
you will find it much more flickable, and you will have better grip when leaned, if you do a lot of straight line stuff (motorways etc...) you may square them if they are soft, but since that is a heavy bike maybe something in the sport touring range, try something like the metzeler z8, angel GT, PR4 in 190/55, the first miles you may feel it leans faster than you like but eventually you will like the handling better
Steering was lighter (more flickable) and as a bonus, it's easier to install than the 190/50 (I went back to a 190/50 on my last tire since I needed it fast as I got a cut in my rear tire). It also effects the speedo/odo (well, gearing too) by 3%-ish.
Did you do it? Do you like it better? The power seems cool, but the 650 is already right at the line of being as heavy as I would like, I don't know if another 50 lbs would push it over the edge. Also, what about insurance costs, are they substantially higher? I'm not a highway squid so I'd only have here and there chances to really enjoy the extra power, so I'd just want to make sure I'm not giving up everything I like about the 650.
NunyaBusiness I love the way 650 does. Since this last time I replied; my situation changed. I gave away my 650 becuase of my knee replacement. Also throughout the time owning my 650, I realized that 1000 is too much. 650 is perfect set up for many things you can do. Now sport bikes is not happening for me so I had to change my tactics for riding; I’m going for Indian Bobber, 1200 cc. More power and it’s a cruiser. Something my knee can handle stretching out
I was gonna get a 650 but I feel like I might as well go ahead and get the 1000 instead of settling. Plus I plan on doing some traveling so this is perfect. Great review!
Great video as always! That's very surprising the bike only gets 35 MPG in town. Is that common in the 1000cc catagory? I'm getting around 54 MPG on my FZ-09 in town
former versys 650 owner and current versys 1000 owner here... where are the videos of you and ari riding the versys 1000, man? would love to hear the input of you two. it's fun watching your brotherly banter on the "on two wheels" episodes. hope you two see this, big fans of the channel. keep it up and keep the rubber side down.
I really like the 1000, one of my favorite bikes. I was excited to see this pop up in my MC feed! Zack, how do you feel about this vs. the Yamaha FJR1300ES?
One of the biggest downers about this bike I discovered just recently is the fact it puts out pathetic amounts of electrical power for accessories. 336watts. That's lower than the gen-1 FZ1 that everyone complained of running out of power for heated stuff and electrical gadgets, since it was a "sport TOURING" bike. Yamaha upgraded from mid 300's wattage to 560 watts on the 2006 gen-2. Yet unless you buy the Versys1000, anywhere this engine (and it's smaller 948cc derivative) is found, you'll have 336 watts. Z1000, Ninja 1000, Z900. I've checked the part numbers for the rotor and stator on parts fish (dot) com to verify, also Rider Magazine publishes the charging wattage for bikes often times. Think this isn't a big deal? Consider the rather mundane street bike like the Triumph Street Twin 900 is cranking out a boatload of power to the tune of 660 watts at a mere 3,000 rpm! Kawasaki has made a great machine in the 2017 Ninja 1000. Trouble is, it has some serious flaws that have prevented me from buying. Needs better gear ratios, needs a high output stator, and it could use a bit more power without any trouble considering it is 1,043cc. In the future I hope Kawasaki revamps the frame on this bike to match the light-weight functional trellis units that it's put on the Z900/RS, H2, Z650. Would knock a nice chunk of weight off this sport touring bike and it's not new design territory for Kawasaki. I'd probably go the DL1000 rout instead of this, opting for more comfort, even though the V-Strom makes a big part less power. It cranks out meatier torque everywhere below 6,000.
Ninja 1000 runs about 4,000 rpm at 60 in 6th. GSX-S1000 runs about 4200 at the same speed and gear. Ninja is geared better, but could be better still. At the same time, the GSX has been said to get about 42 mpg in spite of spinning faster, but it is a long-stroke engine by comparison.
You mentioned new headlight but failed to mention they are dual LED headlights instead of the single halogen from the previous year. I just bought the bike and find the LEDs are a huge improvement for day and night riding. Since you road up the entire state I find it odd you didnt mention this.
I did the whole Kawasaki test ride thing a month or so ago. I really like the Ninja 1000 overall. It was my favorite bike of the day and I rode all of them. I like Superbike power too, that's why I almost bought an Aprilia Tuono. Self and financial preservation forced me to get an xsr900 instead. It rips plenty
This is a Z1000SX for those not in the US right? Only for me a Ninja is the ZX10R or ZX6R range? Basically a Z1000 with fairing, some touring kit and side boxes?
Just picked up a 2017 model last week. Love it so far. Power and handling are excellent. Gearing is a bit on the short side but she still cruises nicely on the interstate. I might try a sprocket change once I wear out my first set of tires just to make the gearing a little taller.
I have the 2015 ninja 1000 and love it. I bought it as a leftover, I wanted the new one but the price was right for the leftover bike. Nice to see a down to earth review.
Man I've watched this review 3 times now, probably watch it again as the long winter is just getting started. Bought the bike in December and rode it all of 3 miles before storing. I like how you put it through it's paces. Hey, aren't you from Vermont? Cheers, Z from VT
+Motorcyclist Magazine - Thanks for posting! I'm looking at a 2017 Ninja 1000 as my next bike. Currently riding a 2015 FZ-09 with 15k commuting and touring miles. How does the Ninja compare to the '15 FZ-09 in terms of power and engine smoothness?
Request for bike review: The Honda CBR 650 F (potentially vs the older CBR 600 F that it has replaced). I really want to know what the bike is like, and why it is priced higher than the model it replaces, when the spec sheet tells that it offers less performance and parts compared to the older model. I've only been able to find reviews from India etc, or some very vague American reviews that barely contain any info - and no riding. I trust you guys for your unbiased opinion and in-depth review style.
Imagine a 1290 Super Duke R engine shoehorned into this motorcycle? The excitement and interest level would fly off the charts. Kawasaki doesn't seem like they do Vtwin sportbike engines. About the only liquid cooled smaller non-cruiser engine they do is the 750 in the Brute Force ATV.
All it needs is cruise control, and an aftermarket exhaust. I can understand why the Versys 1k handles differently. It has a totally different riding position and front end. Both bikes feel big when your on them, but the Ninja just feels like a big comfy sportibke, the Versys feels like a big but strangely light touring bike, unlike the Versys 650 which just feels like a tall, comfy sportbike (at least my Versys does).
this bike looks so much nicer in black. seems like a great bike if you're not entirely sure what you want to do with a motorcycle. keep your options open.
Hey! I own this bike and I wouldn't recommend it for commuting. first of all for consumption, a bike that takes you to work every day must consume little, and the z1k DOES NOT consume little, secondly, it would be wasted, the consumption of tires, services etc. are expensive. is a sport touring bike, a very fun bike that can brings you very far, that's it ;)
Hey Zack, could you commute on a Honda NC750X DCT? It would great to here your opnion about the praticality of DCT in dense traffic, the 55 PS on the motorway and how you would use the tank trunk.. Thanks for your content, have a good one!
You complain about 50 ccm, while the USA gets nearly double the amount of modells to choose from? Just an example: For Touring you get: Gold Wing, Gold Wing F6B, ST1300, Interstate, CTX1300, NM4, CTX700 DCT. What do we in Europe get? The VFR800F (marketed as Sport bike named Interceptor in NA) and that's it. North America gets to choose from 11 Honda Cruisers, in Germany you can only get the Rebel 500. Go to www.honda.de/motorcycles and see what we can buy without import!
Hi I heard you comment on mid corner handling being a bit hard to keep down, in the UK we found front end a bit hard and if you back it of 1 full turn , it's makes so much more difference
The SUV that does a U turn and then switches over two lanes in front of you at 5:45. One reason im hesitant on getting another street bike. Yes, i know you were getting on it a little but they crossed lanes without as much as a signal. Anyway, nice video and bike! Currently looking at either Ninja 1000 or Versys 1000 if i decide to pull the trigger.
The two bikes I'm considering are the Verses 1000LT and the Ninja 1000. Would love to see a commute on that and your opinion of which one you like better.
How about the weight of the bike when stuck in traffic? I'm using a Ninja 650 as my commuter bike and the weight of it is sometimes a factor for me when traffic is heavy
What's the difference between the ZX10r and this one? The specs show about 50cc larger on the 1000, but lower horsepower. Is it just a more hunched over Versys?
I'm looking at all those 90 degrees four way intersections - STOP signs, traffic lights ... and say to myself - you guys in Californica need ''round abouts'' ! Makes riding safer !
What are the chances you guys can get into talks with the insurance companies to bring the rates down? I was looking at getting one but it's nearly 3x the cost of a zx6r for insurance.
The reason it’s geared like is that it’s a super sport tranny used for a engine that turns 12-13k rpm so if you was twisting right on past your red line like a normal ZX10 you would be about right but these don’t do that so they run out of gear quick! Best thing to do is gear it up spread them out a little get more top end!
This will be my next bike once spring comes around. I currently have a 2017 Ninja 650. Very comfortable but very under powered and all aftermarket exhaust systems sound horrible. Hopefully the 1000 will be the answer to my power and exhaust note issue.
hey zach, quick question, when you did the mpg computation, where did you get the 144.9? I only got the 4.141 which was the amount of gas in gallons you used to fill up the tank
Can you guys do the Ducati cafe racer?? i know people just think its a fashion statement but i for one think its great to have a sort of cruiser/ city bike without having to buy an actual looking cruiser, if that makes any sense at all.
Gearing on this bike is miles better than the GSX-S1000 *off the bottom.* Just needs a wider spread the rest of the way. The Suzuki has a stupid-tall 1st gear and a really short 6th. And it need more than a weak 336 watts for electrics, for those who want to add heated grips/gear, GPS, aux lights, etc.
Andrew Davis for reference I had an Fz07 and upgraded to a speed Triple. Similar upgrade I'd say. My insurance for for the Speed was 300 dollars cheaper a year because it's an older bike I think
Good job great review. I bet I'd love that bike, but I'll probably never own a bike that new. I have a 97 Concours and a 88 Voyager and a 2012 zx14r. Even though the Concourse and the Voyager are old and totally outclassed buy that bike I still love riding them I guess they have character. I just like riding anything and everything. I guess I tend to see what a bike does good not what it does bad.
I like how the exhaust sound really smooth, i mean i like my bike to be loud, but this is new to me that i appreciated when the exhaust is smooth and quiet.

@Aaron Lincoln It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy:D

@Sullivan Korbin Happy to help =)
Love Zack's enthusiasm in this one. Moved the Ninja 1000 to the top of my list.
I did a demo ride of a 2011 Ninja 1000 and loved it. Such a great combination of performance and comfort. I can only imagine how good it is now after two updates.
best bike in the category and best of both worlds
Kevin Van de voorde s1000xr?
Chuck Weeks no, this one
That is certainly not the same category, BMW S1000XR is $8000 more expensive, at least in Australia
Kevin Van de voorde out of the 650 category Honda’s CBR650F smashes the Ninja 650. I bought one in June and love it. A great value and great ST. Two road trips so far and just clicked over 3k on the odo.
How is comfort level for long rides? 200-300km in one stretch.
Mileage

maniakaz Thinking about getting a 190/55 instead of the 190/50 on my old Yamaha MT01. How was the difference?

Yeeeeep! I have been eyeing on Ninja 1000.. can’t wait to trade in my 650 for the 1000. Power baby!
That's my current situation as well. I do love my 650, though.

Correct. Mine is called the Z1000SX (in Europe). Exact same bike without the Ninja stickers.
My 2016 Z1000 does not have traction control, wheelie control or power modes.
I own one and i slay the 636 and am right on the tail of the 10r so its a ninja buddy boy

Zack, the kind of guy who does his job while on the commute.
One simple question. Is this bike comfortable for the passenger as well? Really like the looks of this bike.
I changed rear sprocket from 41 to 39 great improvement
Do the fairings do a good job on keeping the wind off of your legs
would love to see you do the new 2018 Honda cb650f

He sounds like he's trying to be positive about the bike but can't really get excited over it.

Please do a review of the Kawasaki H2 SX SE!!! I'm dying to see what you thing about it!
A talk about the differences between the Ducati 696/796/821 and which is the best bike for its price?
Has not this bike arrived in the US market with the Bosch cornering ABS yet? As it has in Australia!
Top vid 👌😉
Which did you prefer...... This or the GSXS 1000?
Would choose this over a z900 for a 16 mile (to and from) commute and some fun on the weekends?
love how you talk with your left hand
Is it posible to but up the metric system when you talk about the bikes spes, in like a subtile or some thing like that :D
I didn't see you filtering through traffic, is it too big for filtering?
Zack...You said in another video you loved the Versys 650 but hated the Ninja 650. So not same with the 1000's?
This will be my next bike once spring comes around. I currently have a 2017 Ninja 650. Very comfortable but very under powered and all aftermarket exhaust systems sound horrible. Hopefully the 1000 will be the answer to my power and exhaust note issue.
Did you get the ninja 1000? I'm getting a 2020 ninja 650 in a couple of weeks for my 1st bike. Any suggestions?
Can the wheelie control be turned off?
If not can a piggyback ECU fix the problem?
Sold my 15 ninja 1000 for 2017 Tuono. It was a great bike, just not what I was looking for.
i bought a 15 NINJA from crossroads in PA,i have a feeling it was yours.
Motorcycle Mag.
Hey Zack, how great a machine to go from WA to NC and back is the Kawasaki 1000 ?
Love my 2015 just wish it had cruise control since its so comfy its easy to ride all day. I average 42 mpg riding like i stole it.
Can't wait for the 900RS. As a kid I had to settle for a KH500. Settle? it was a 2stroke ;) Now it's looking like I can get that 900.
Zach what are your favorite mirrors?
Thanks for the real world fuel economy. Please include this going forward. Very helpful.
I agree with Sean
Jump on Fuelly.com for real world mpg ratings from owners.
hey zach, quick question, when you did the mpg computation, where did you get the 144.9? I only got the 4.141 which was the amount of gas in gallons you used to fill up the tank
tripometer. start at zero when you fill up. Next fill up divide miles ridden by gallons of gas you put in tank. Eazy Peazy
Can you guys do the Ducati cafe racer?? i know people just think its a fashion statement but i for one think its great to have a sort of cruiser/ city bike without having to buy an actual looking cruiser, if that makes any sense at all.
What bikes does Zack actually own?
Would love a commute on a GSXR 600, thinking of picking one up, can't find any good reviews about commuting on them.
What about valve adjustment frequency? And not a lot of experienced techs at dealers to do same? Issue with most Japanese or European bikes.
So which is more fun and comfortable to ride..this or Versys 1000?
i use to have this mean machine back on 2016. love it
I didn't see a link to his First Ride article. Here it is:

Please do a review on the Kawasaki H2 SX, trying to decide between that and this Ninja 1000.
I'm dumb; when you say gear up (in relation to your comments about curing the buziness around 5-6k rpm) what do you mean specifically?
He means he would install a smaller rear sprocket and shorten the chain to accomodate it if need be
I also love my 2013 N1K, she’s a real beefy beast when she wants to be.
What kind of camera do you use? The view is amazing!
been 3 years :(
WOW are all gas nozzles so short in USA? less than half ,than the ones here in nz
Which bike does not have the gears too close together please?
Really glad to see this. I own a ninja 650r and looking to upgrade. Curious on the insurance though.
Andrew Davis for reference I had an Fz07 and upgraded to a speed Triple. Similar upgrade I'd say. My insurance for for the Speed was 300 dollars cheaper a year because it's an older bike I think
Nice Commute.Does it have all LED headlamps?
Yes. The 2017 and 2018 has LED lights.
find an ebr 1190sx and do a commute on it and gives us your thoughts on buying discontinued leftover new bikes.
Can we get an MC Commute of the Suzuki GSX-S1000F?
Good job great review. I bet I'd love that bike, but I'll probably never own a bike that new. I have a 97 Concours and a 88 Voyager and a 2012 zx14r. Even though the Concourse and the Voyager are old and totally outclassed buy that bike I still love riding them I guess they have character. I just like riding anything and everything. I guess I tend to see what a bike does good not what it does bad.
So when do we get the versys 1000 commute?
On paper, these bikes tick all of the boxes of what I need out of my next motorcycle. I just can't drum up ANY excitement about them for some reason.
Please do an MC Commute on the Yamaha FZ-10. Thanks!
What bike has good gearing and throttle response?
God Zach you had me rolling when you where explaining the imu at 6:00
Would love to see a 650 bandit commute
