“Catching Cancer Early” a clinical training in early cancer detection

The Department of Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery and Public Health Dentistry of Annoor Dental College along with Karkinos Health Care Private Ltd conducted a training program on “Catching Cancer Early” a clinical training in early cancer detection.
The program started with the welcome address by Dr. Deepu George Mathew, Professor and Head, Department of Oral Pathology, Annoor Dental College. The Resource Faculty was Dr. Paul Sebastian, the former Director of Regional Cancer Centre, Trivandrum and currently working as Director, Early Detection, Karkinos Health Care, Kerala. He emphasized on the importance of early detection of oral cancer and precancer in dental clinics to improve the prognosis of the patients. He also showed many clinical scenarios of early oral cancers and precancers. The talk was concluded by vote of thanks by Dr Pooja Latti, Professor and Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry. This session was followed by demonstration of oral precancers in screening positive patients. From 11.30 onwards a select group of Dentists were trained in screening of breast cancer, cervical cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer.
This program was conducted to bring synergy in cancer detection and patient care between Annoor Dental College and Karkinos Health Care to facilitate future collaborative screening work. The Karkinos team also included Ms. Honey Devassiya and Smt Deepa.
