This man is such a poet. And then there's the video timing as well. He crosses the road hitting the sunshine exactly at the right moment when the music swells. Like, how do you even do that? So, so much creativity going into this.
In the little chat during the release, Ren mentioned that he had 8 friends helping him out with the acting. I'm thinking it was: Drunk Girls 3, Homeless Man 1, Mother with stroller 1, Guys fighting 3... all the rest of the people would have just been going about their business. I love the contrast between the Verve's 90's slacker/self absorbed feel vs. 2023 British Anthem feel. It's a striking difference when you put them together, but for the 1990's it really was an iconic song because the attitude fit for that time in history.
No it's not. It simply means that as people rise for work so the sun rises as well. It makes no sense to infer that The Mirror and The Sun has anything to do with people rising for work.
4:03 Talking of juxtapositions, I love how he steps out of the shadow into the light just at the moment he sings 'here in the city we glow' - it must have been intentional - subtle, but so well done.
Nice one ... and when he reaches the section about the junkie & "his mother at a funeral" he stops & delivers the line at a slab or maintenance cover that is longer than it is wide, with his hands crossed like a mourner at the foot of a grave (exagerated further as the camera angle doesn't yet show the line where the 'slab' finishes at the end the camera is at) ... the more I watch his videos the more obvious it becomes that these things don't happen by chance.
@@albrand3201 A good find, and I'm sure you're right about that one! Another one I noticed was at the end when he sings about birds of a feather as the sound of seagulls (Brighton being by the coast) intensifies.
A wordsmith a magician he cuts it clean with so much precision… his time is come with help from guys like you. I hope you dive back into his previous works as well as embracing the now and hopefully the future Ren at his work. Thank you for your insightful reactions.❤
The Earlie morning ambiance of this whole video takes me right back to my misspent youth, my Salad days (when I was young and green and thought I ruled the world)... But it's those seagulls at the end that really got in my head...! The sound Rocketed me back to when I was a little kid laying in bed as the sun came up, in a hotel room at the seaside... It's amazing how some songs segments can trigger memories that visit you like old friends.
Those seagulls triggered me the same way. I grew up in a mariner family. My bedroom window looked over the harbor and its entrance. The sound of seagulls was an everyday sound. I left there in 1978, yet like you said, things can trigger memories.
"As below so above, as within so without ." Hermes Trismegistus. It's an alchemical concept that means that the small and the big are two parts of the same thing just like the microcosm and macrocosm. Ren a genius even putting alchemical concepts in his lyrics.

There's a lot going on in this. For a start 'The Seagulls' is Brighton & Hove Albion FC's nickname. Ren lives in Brighton, the whole song is an ode to this hometown. Ending it with 'We're birds of a feather' ties up a spiral. He's a clever kid. Puts out a much needed vibe. Hope he goes absolutely interstellar. Seems like a very brave lad with an incredible amount of talent and stoicism. Ren is a Pure Creative Force. I'm a 51 year old who was lucky enough to see his train coming from behind an Akai mpc in Chester. He's not wrong about street violence. I can't go out since having my head smashed in literally twice. Britain needs to get real with it's attitude to 'drugs'. The street fights are ridiculous. It's alcohol & cocaine related shittery. I stay well away. I'm the proud owner of half a titanium face because of two random play-fighters. Been battered 2 or 3 times since. Self defence is a must in Britain. I'm disabled now. Last guys left me for dead in between 2 parked cars. I was walking, without my necessary crutches from a pub and got hit on the turn. Woke up at night-time. Half deaf. I got hit so hard it broke a piece of bone off in my ear which was later removed by a bedside Dr in the Hospital. Crazy how much that 1 moment changed me. Ended up with 3 cracked ribs too. Unconscious isn't enough for some people sadly. Some people like when you stop moving. I've survived a full unconscious 2-footed stamp on my head at 14-15 years old. Just walking home drunk and a gang hit me. Chester is one of the most beautiful cities on the planet. It has a full 360 degree Roman Wall surrounding it. Gotta be very careful going out on your own though. My son Sam has also been assaulted in town. It's far too common all over. I remember frequent punch-ups in pubs before it got really nasty. This is different. It's probably the biggest criminal problem right now in Britain. It ruins so many lives.
@Simon Tilston You are 100% right and irs something that's been needing addressed for years. It's the same up here in Scotland. Stay safe, buddy, and i hope your son does too ✌️💙🏴
He's bringing the world together with his music. He is beyond an artist. He is a cyclone and more and more people are getting caught up in his tail. The positivity he brings is amazing. I'm from the UK and walking through the city early in the morning on a summer morning is a beautiful but weird thing. Ren=fucking genius ❤️❤️❤️
My favorite line is "It's bittersweet how my high found it's way to be low" Because he's even putting the Bitter with the high and sweet with the low. The guy is on another level.
I've became a fan of your channel through your Ren reactions, guys music has helped me through a really tough time with my own mental health and illness. But you've got a new subscriber either way

Random suggestions mate. To include the band he was / is in and collaborations, and busking on the streets. Check out The big Push, Chinchilla etc. "war pigs" "mans world" "blind eye" " chalk outlines " "power" "what you want" "how to be me" I could go on...............and on.............er, and on .
Great reaction ! Loved the way you explored the lyrics. Yes this video is so well done ,the timing of everything. My favourite part is when he crosses the road and the sun hits.
@@FischtankProductions Hahaha yeah looks like it, although I am slowly getting satisfied with the huge number of Hi Ren reactions I watched, he has 12 more songs ready for this album waiting to be released.
You commented about his opposites with the dark light (below as above/above as below)- did you notice how at that moment he stepped from a side of the street in the shade over to the side of the street in the bright sunlight? Pretty awesome preplanned timing!
This song is amazing. Ren's taken a magnificent song and elevated it to a whole new level of meaning. But it makes me so sad in a way - the britain we love is broken and dyeing. Ren is a shining light in this world and it's so sad that he has to fight for his own existence so hard
3 videos in and I love how you acknowledged the person filming the video. This is rarely said and yet a big piece of his art. Sending good vibes your way and to Ren too.
Thank you so much. My girlfriend and I film and produce all of the music videos for our band Amahjra and also do film for other artist so it’s something I’m always looking at.
"Out on the Lash" means getting drunk. When Navy sailors got the lash, whipped by a Cat-o-Nine Tails and ripped the skin off your back, the Captain would give you a bottle of Rum to kill the pain, if you survived. On these TV Survivor shows, if only they knew!!!!
"His mother's in a black suit crying at a funeral" was genius the way he stopped to 'pay his respects' at the precise moment a grave shaped rectangular manhole cover appeared in front of him.

Standing over the grate to represent a grave too
Absolutely! At the point he enters the sun "Here in the city we glow". And there's several others as well.
God was cooperating and rearranging the heavens for this video. 😁❤️
He is the Bard of Brighton, a modern day minstrel bearing his heart to the world.
I see the word poet used far too often. In Ren’s case it feels like and understatement. ❤❤❤
Get Rens gofundme shared....as an English guy it's rare to feel something so positive about the UK these days.... the dude is something precious

'The Sun Mirrors that' Is a wordplay on Britains two main national tabloids - The Sun and The Mirror
No it's not. It simply means that as people rise for work so the sun rises as well. It makes no sense to infer that The Mirror and The Sun has anything to do with people rising for work.

I've listened to this at least 20 times since yesterday😁 Thank you for the video!
The song isn't monetized. Hopefully The Verve give him the license to get the music out there.
The Verve didn't make a penny out of the track either. The sample they used is The Andrew Oldham Orchestra and owned by Mick Jagger...
