Thanks I needed this, a job denied me because they said “we only take Drivers license and Social Security only”. I knew that wasn’t true because when I was in high school I didn’t have one my mom had it, so I used school records. Crazy how some of these employers not even following the law. Now I know I can bring my Drivers license for ID and my birth certificate for work authorization.
So here is my question because when I talk to various HR professionals they all have different answers! As an agency sometimes we do not have someone who can be readily on site at a client site for a contract worker. We have in the past had the HR personnel from the company do the I9, however I am now being told by one firm that they should not be doing this as they are not authorized. Could you give your take on that situation?
Great value! Have question: if employees work remotely (let's say in Europe) for a company that is in the USA, does the employer still has to fill up FORM I-9?
That's a great question Diaz. Check out the USCIS page on acceptable documents. www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents If you have a valid driver's license (List B- establishing identity) & social security card (List C- establishing employment authorization) that should satisfy the employer's I-9 requirements. However, I would recommend confirming with the employer. Thanks for watching!
@@HRPartyofOne so in that case I have to choose B And C even if I don’t use my green card as my Identification just to confirm my status? I was asking me for My Uscis number and I didn’t use my green card. I used I-9 everywhere.

Very helpful, help make sense of something I was seeing in my job aid but wasn’t 100% sure about. Thank you
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching Mark.
Great video. My social security card is laminated, would that be a problem? Thank you for your expertise!
Thanks for watching Claudia, that shouldn't be a problem.
Can we do i9 based of opt card? And just mention opt card on list A?
how can I get an authorized representative? you didnt mention that
What if you have an expired permit and you can get your id until months later
what is "placement" in the form? i see default, under 18, and special. im not under 18 BUT WHAT IS SPECIAL OR DEFAULT???
If my green card is expired can I stil use the USCIS number anyway? If I’m using my driver license and social security?
That's a great question Diaz.
