What a nice surprise to find this channel, completely by chance! I’ve been a cross-stitcher since early childhood (5 y/o and just turned 60) and love to see that younger people still enjoy the craft. I’ve done all sorts of things in different fibers, fabric and thread counts, but samplers remain an all-time favourite.
Your work and joy is so inspiring. I have done a little bit of cross stitch, two pieces, and i really enjoyed it. I look forward in doing more in my future and expanding my own knitting and bead work as well. Love and joy to all that you do.
I am thrilled that I stumbled onto your youtube channel since I love to knit, cross stitch, and read. Your presentation is not only informative, but charming. I started a 14 count Christmas stocking for my granddaughter and after making a mistake, I set it aside and haven't picked it up in a while. You have inspired me to go back to it and get it done! I also love Knitpicks. Their prices are good, the yarn is good quality, and their customer service is wonderful.
Okay...I’m going to have to stop watching your Floss Tube because I’m so enabled and adding to my queue SO much! 🥴🤣🥳 I went right over and bought Cirque des Coeurs and I can’t wait to stitch it for our bedroom! I’m also a knitter and I’m really enjoying both of your fiber arts obsession! Happy stitching!
Beautiful stitching. Love Ink Circles. Like you, stitching is keeping me sane. Love Fred Bachman. Can’t wait to read this one. Your videos are always a pleasure. Thx, Shiloh.
Those blanket squares are crazy amazing! I can’t wait to see it when it’s done!! Love all the Ink Circles wips. You and Ryan are neck and neck!! Thanks for another great visit 🙂❤️🙂❤️
This is a year after this video, and I got 72 magazines for 27.00. Such an amazing deal! I have yet to explore them, but I’ll be making sure to do that soon. Thanks for letting me know about it. Loving all of your stiches
I am new to your channel and you are a delight and infectiously enthusiastic and so generous with your knowledge and time. Thank you. You have also got me interested in starting to stick and a very ripe old age!
I enjoy your videos and seeing all the work that you accomplish. I'm retired and can't get that much done. So...I had pause and go buy the magazines - because...and finally, I'm so jealous you get to live in Canada. I'm from Maine and love the Maritimes ever since I was a kid. So there, keep up the good and keep sharing for us to see.
Back again, since I first stumbled on your channel. I’ve ordered Pandemic, cloth for it, and now deciding on colour. Decided I better do a project to get me cack into stitching. It’s been at least 15 years or more. So I ordered the diagonal rainbow sampler you are working on, while ordering that found another sampler Quaker Tiles. So thanks? I’m going back down the stitching rabbit hole! And you have inspired me to get some of my many finished projects framed. Usually after they were finished I folded them up and put them in a draw. Can’t wait to get them on the wall. Wish I could share them with you.
Loved your video. Just had to comment that I downloaded Anxious People to my Kindle several days ago. This will be my fourth Fredrik Backman book. I love his stories and A Man Called Ove is probably one of my favorite books of all time! You laugh, you cry, and you fall in love with the characters and their quirks. Give it a try. Thanks for sharing your great stitching projects.
I love your socks that you are knitting, and the new sock yarn is absolutely fabulous(Heidi’s)!! I am not a knitter (I tried it 😢) but I love color and can appreciate it in yarn and also in fabric. Your stitching pieces are beautiful too. You get so much done and taking schooling too - don’t know how you do it but good job!! Have fun. Hugs and happy stitching...............
You're working on so many lovely pieces. Good for you ! I love all things cross-stitch too and am trying to venture into the world of linen and fabric over 28 count. I know it just takes getting used to because I so like the final look. Thanks again !
Love all your projects! All of them are simply beautiful! As are you! Thank you for the book recommendation. I absolutely LOVE this author and have listened on Audio to nearly all his previous books. I started listening to Anxious People right after your video was over and can't wait to finish it now!
Thanks for sharing your book recommendation. Sounds great! I really enjoyed his other books. I love the Past and Present chart...how beautiful. Your squares are so much fun; such a nice variety. Great job on your socks! Just in time for cooler weather.
Hi Shiloh, I love your videos 💕 your stitching and knitting 🧶 are so beautiful! You make me want to knit, I was never interested in knitting before I watched your videos. I love those blanket squares. I just wouldn’t know how to start! Happy stitching lovely xx
I love that the back of your work is so neat! I told my students all the time neatness counts. Put tape around the cloth that frays, it won’t effect the work.
Shiloh, Thank you for another great flosstube video! Everything you create is a treat to see and you’ve definitely enabled me to try the access commodities linen; I’d been wondering about it and it looks beautiful. Thanks again.
I purchased quite a few Gift of Stitching magazines and they’re great!! I chose the ones with my fave designers in like Lizzie Kate and Prairie Schooler and I’m going to treat myself to some more on payday! Thank you for the recommendation x
Love seeing your epic stitching! Well, I am not a knitter and am not at all yarn- inclined, but I find myself enjoying the stories of your socks and afghans. You and Ellen Reid can keep my attention, even through the yarns! 😂
Your new intro is very nice! Also, you can look up knitting on two circular needles instead of DPNs. So fun and easy with very little fiddling. Knit from the inside or outside, doesn't matter. Have fun and congrats on expanding your knitting skills!
Hey! Just found your channel, all these projects look awesome, especially those ink circles projects! I've been looking for cross stitch projects that are up my alley aesthetic wise and those look really cool. Also cool to hear you're a psychiatry resident, I'm about to go into my final year as a medical student :)
You are both an inspiration and an enabler. You have been officially binge watched. Keep up the fun flosstubes. I just posted my second video this week. Stitching to connect Annie.
I am a knitter first and just started cross stitching. I am amazed on how fast your stitching moves along. Love knitpicks, I buy hand dyed yarns for like accent colors or shawls and knitpicks or other budget yarns for bigger projects. Not sure if you are aware, but the yarns you’ve bought are not what is called self striping like the sock yarn you are using from Michaels. Those are called variegated and they can cause pooling in socks if not broken up with a pattern. I tend to use those for shawls. Knitpicks has a yarn that’s unfortunately a seasonal yarn called Felicie which is a self striping.
Great video!!! I always love your cross stitch and knitting choices...beautiful. I would like to try knitting a pair of socks...but it has to be an easy pattern. Thanks for sharing.
I pull from the outside of a yarn cake because I always make a mess once they start colapsing when pulling from the inside. I love Sulky! I've been ordering directly from their website to get the 300 yard spools. I even ordered a 2,200 ish yard spool for really big single color patterns. Love your videos!
So many gorgeous new starts! Love all of them and that magazine is full of beautiful patterns. There is a double dutch sampler that is on my “to start” list. I love seeing all the yarns and after years of not touching my knitting, i am very tempted to go back to it 🥰
This is beautiful! I have done cross stitch but I get burned out - in fact I do get burned out on a lot of needle crafts but if I find it enjoyable and relaxing and not taxing - maybe thats my issue? Plus I tend to what to push to get done - excited for the final product. Need to work on enjoying the process - finding I am better able to do so as I get older. First time viewer!
Hi Shiloh, hope all is well in NS, my home province. I am missing it terribly. Was unable to get home this summer to visit my family. I love all your WIPs, all so pretty.
Your items are beautiful. I started stitching when I was 23 and I’m now 55. I stitch on monks cloth because the stitch is larger and I still need to wear reading glasses. 😀 I used to stitch very small stitches, not anymore. I use shipping tape on the edges to keep the frays under control. 😀
I used to knit from the centre of the cake but I always had problems with yarn barf 😄 (a big clump of tangled yarn coming out). I also didn't like how the yarn cake would start to collapse on itself as it became smaller, so I started knitting from the outside instead. Works just fine as long as you don't mind your yarn bouncing around beside you a little!
Some prefer to knit from the outside of a cake of yarn, so it really is which ever you prefer. Love your projects. I am also a sock knitter. Love making them but don't like wearing socks much.
i guess Im randomly asking but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I love any assistance you can give me
@Darian Ahmed I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
I am glad you are enjoying the Ink Circles patterns, Shiloh! I still have lots more in my stash! I love, love, love what you’re doing with Dragons! I love the color way you’re using- it is magnificent! I also love your Cirque de Cours! I saw Amy’s version and thought hers was gorgeous as well. Love the red you picked. I haven’t completed any of those patterns although I’m sure they’re around here some place and I love them! I am easily distracted as well. This week I fell right into the arms of Cheryl Granda and Glendon Place. I have bunches of those, too, but I had to start Birds of Paradise and am obsessed by it at the moment! Your knitting projects are great- love the shawl out of mini skeins! So pretty. Oh- and since you’re a psychiatric resident, I have a book for you! It is The Patient by Jasper de Witt and I’m sure you can get it on ebooks. Ok, take care and see you next time! OBTW- did you hear the gasp over that gorgeous pink and black hand dyed sock yarn? You must knit that soon! It is amazing!
Love your floss tube videos! You make me giggle and love your enthusiasm. As for pulling from the inside or outside of a cake is all preference. I prefer to pull from the outside of the cake using a yarn bowl or yarn butler as sometimes when you pull from the centre you end up with ‘yarn barf’! As for your little oopsies on your blocks, it must have been a funny part in The Office 😀😉
Your sock yarns are gorgeous! If you are looking for someone to knit socks for I will get in the line-up! I knit socks but it seems before the last stitch is done, someone is there to claim them. Knit picks is a great place for yarn. I am starting a pair of socks in a lovely DK this week which is a first for me. I bought myself a new set of dpn’s to make them. A new type of needle for me..I wanted something light but not bamboo because it bends and splits so easily. I was introduced to a new to me needle that is metal tipped carbon fibre needles, light and strong. Not inexpensive!! But good tools are lovely to work with so I am anxious to try them. I have listened to a few knitters talk about caked yarn and the debate on whether t start in the middle or outside...middle works well but caves in on itself as the centre lessens and from the outside is a bit of “drag” so to speak. I ma trying the centre for these new socks. I have read A Man named Ove. A wonderful read, and if you like that you will almost certainly love this one... The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen, 83¼ Years Old is a joy to read, as much concerned with friendship and dignity as it is with the debilitating effects of aging. PS when you figure out how to knit with one hand and stitch with the other, maybe you could post a tutorial. I will watch!
Oooooh I need to check out that book! And I kinda like pulling from the outside because of the caving in issue! But I think I need to try the centre pull way as well lol. And those needles sound awesome!!
Gorgeous projects as always! I got TGOS magazine. I can’t decide if I want to start the Bristol Sampler with y’all or the 10000 other amazing things in it. I can’t commit. Lol The knitted squares look so cool. Blocking them is going to be an adventure I bet.
I really like your starts! I will have to try Sulky threads. I just started Pandemic last night on a printed grey 18 count fabric that I received as a gift I purchased three hanks of silk from Missus Sedus and will be using the colour way Darling Bleu. It is quite the epic undertaking, that’s for sure! On your recommendation, I purchased the whole set of back issues of TGOS and am really enjoying reading them. There are so many beautiful charts and am enjoying the designer bios as well. Great video, Shiloh! Thank you for sharing. 😀🌸
Your stitching is moving along so fast, wow. I knit from the outside of my yarn cake after having to rescue a bunch of yarn after the cakes and balls collapse once you get so far. It’s up to your choice how you do it. Have you been to L&K yarn shop? It’s a dangerous shop for me, sock yarn is so pretty and addictive. I made 6 or 8 pair of them last year, some were started the year before so not sure of the count. They also have Fleece Artist and Mermaid yarns which I love. They have soooo many great yarns, needles, patterns so like I said it a very dangerous place for me to go. I haven’t been since last fall though and they don’t mail so I’m craving to go. It’s not like I don’t have lots of yarn to actually knit and I’ve been going through patterns matching them up so I can work through some stash. I can always go to Michaels and get some Kroy to make socks though, it’s an oldie sock yarn but they have been modernizing their colours and I actually like knitting their yarns, they wear and wash well. Anyway, happy making, take care, be safe, stay well. At least we didn’t get blown away or flooded last night or today. 🙋🏼
So thankful that Teddy wasn’t bad at all!! I haven’t been into LK Yarns yet - just done curbside pickup, but I am hoping to go into the store this week to look at all the beautiful yarns!!! (I’ve been avoiding going bc I know I am going to need to buy everything lol). And I’ve heard great things about Kroy yarn!
You will need to go back and read Fredrick Backman’s previous books. They are worth your time. I am on the waiting list at the library for his new one. Great progress on all of your projects. Love the new video intro.
I've never been bitten by the cross stitch bug - but your work is exquisitely fine. I just know that if I managed to make a cross stitch panel I'd use it as a cushion cover and it would last five minutes before being damaged and falling apart. :)
Finished my first Perfect Pair sock (very first sock ever) and started the second sock😀. Went back to Michaels and got two more skeins. Yes, and thanks again I just put Past and Present on my 123 stitch wish list🤣
Glad you mentioned that book, now I definitely want to read it. I enjoy the author very much. When you have the chance you should read “A Man Called Ove”, it’s wonderful.
Thank you!! 😊 I can definitely talk more in future videos about residency!! I’m currently in year 3 of 5 and am halfway through my 6 month child psychiatry rotation. 6 months of geriatric (seniors) psychiatry is next after that! I do a mix of both hospital & clinic based rotations & it’s awesome!!
Go to the sewing section of you store and get some No-Stitch fabric glue to put on your edges to stop any fraying. Old trick someone told m many moons ago.
I love ❤️ way your video your have so many amazing patterns love 💕 them all they are just stunning 😍 love the socks🧦 have a great evening and happy stitching 🧵😊❤️🤗
Just found your channel and had to subscribe. Really enjoyed seeing your stitching projects as they are very much my taste as well. The reference to the Bristol Sampler in the TGOS magazines caused me to buy the whole set online! Um, thanks? LOL
I am done medical school now & am in residency (working & getting paid!). I’m working in a psychiatry clinic right now, and my hours are super reasonable, so I get to spend most evenings stitching or knitting! 😊😊
Hello from France. Really enjoying your videos and all your samplers. I really don't know that it was possible to stitch with sewing thread in a monochrome project. Could you tell me what kind of thread it is (coton...) ?. Thanks a lot.
Hello!! The thread I am using is designed for embroidery - it just looks like sewing thread bc it is sold on a spool! But it is the thickness of 2 strands of DMC & is cotton 😊
Do you every put low residue or archival tape around the perimeter of your project. Or Stitch a basting stitching around so your fraying under control?
We're about the same place with Etude. Seeing yours makes me want to do it in all of the called-for colours as well! haha. Maybe I'll pick another of her designs for a change-up. But seriously, WHERE DO YOU FIND THE TIME?!?!? It blows me away how fast your hands must be going. Are you sure you're not craft-ambidextrous and knitting and cross-stitching at the same time? hehe
Oh did you read A man called Ove as well? It’s so good! You probably have by now as its been two years… hahah sorry - also i love the yarn purchases you made, i have not knitted since my children were tiny but could so easily be tempted by you! - take care, Nic x
Hi Shiloh. I’m all set to start a sweater with self striping yarn and am curious about how to start each piece so they match. I have two sleeves and front and back. Any thoughts would be most helpful...Annie
I haven’t knit a sweater with self striping yard before, but that will be beautiful!! For my socks I just made sure to start the second one at the same stripe repeat of the yarn. (Which might require you to unravel the skein a bit to find where the next repeat starts & then cutting the yarn and starting from there. I hope that makes sense? There are definitely videos on TH-cam that show how to do it as well!
There is no right or wrong way to knit from a cake of yarn. If you knit from the inside, you can pull smoothly (hopefully) but the cake will collapse on itself at some point. If you knit from the outside, you will avoid the grand collapse. It’s personal preference. Try both and do what you prefer.
Oh😍my😍that is gorgeous. I shall definitely buy this pattern. Just discovered you and love your work. 😮. Major Distraction. In a big way. This pattern will be a fun way for me the get back into cross stitching🙃🤞🏿😫🤩🤗. How long does it take you to finish a project like that.
Thanks for watching!! 😊 It really varies how long it takes me to finish a project, bc I tend to work on a bunch of things & rotate between them!! Lol I think I started Etude earlier this year? And I’m still not finished it bc I keep getting distracted by other things lol 😊

@Brantley Emmitt You are welcome :D
I love all your projects and colors! I also stitch 2 strands on 36ct. I am a coverage girl. Plus there are no rules in cross stitch ❤

I prefer to pull from the outside of the cake using a yarn bowl or yarn butler as sometimes when you pull from the centre you end up with ‘yarn barf’! As for your little oopsies on your blocks, it must have been a funny part in The Office 😀😉
😂😂😂 - I think that’s probably exactly what caused the mistakes!!
The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen
The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen, 83¼ Years Old is a joy to read, as much concerned with friendship and dignity as it is with the debilitating effects of aging.
There are soooo many awesome patterns in it!!! And I know lol - not really looking forward to all of the blocking lol
That sounds like it will be gorgeous!!! I’m excited to start Pandemic 😊
Thanks for the book recommendation!
I would love a pair of socks! I have never had a pair of homemade knitted socks.!!
Very beautiful projects, you’re very talented, 😍😍thanks for sharing it my friend 👍🌸💐🌸💐
Just found your channel. So inspiring. 😀😀😀
I just ordered A Man Called Ove & Beartown online! I’m excited to read them 😊
I've never been bitten by the cross stitch bug - but your work is exquisitely fine.
Yay!!! Isn’t it just such a nice yarn?
Glad you mentioned that book, now I definitely want to read it. I enjoy the author very much. When you have the chance you should read “A Man Called Ove”, it’s wonderful.
I ordered it & it should be here tomorrow!!! 😊
I block out all the prices after I buy things too!! I love all of your stitching! Would you mind sharing more about how your residency is going?
Thank you!! 😊
I can definitely talk more in future videos about residency!!
Awesome!! Thank you!!!
Love your projects and knitting♡
Loving all the ink Circles!
I just downloaded that book on my Kindle! I’m only a few chapters in but definitely loving it so far! 😍
Um, thanks? LOL
Lololol - I am MORE than happy to enable!! 😂
Ничего не понимаю, но работы потрясающие, фантастические, красота!!!!!! Молодец!!!
Yarns all look so yummy, you haven't tempted to start knitting again (quite) but I paid a visit to Rosewood manor 😭
🤗 All up in everybody else’s business!!! 😂😂😂😂. Love it!
Your stitching is perfection! Your pieces are so perfect. How do you have time for medical school, stitching so much, AND knitting!!! Do you sleep? ☺️
I am done medical school now & am in residency (working & getting paid!). I’m working in a psychiatry clinic right now, and my hours are super reasonable, so I get to spend most evenings stitching or knitting! 😊😊
@@Xstitchmd That makes more sense! I truly enjoy your needlework. Good luck with your residency.
Fantastic cross stitch my dear. Its beautiful. Sherie 😍
gorgeous work!
Do you every put low residue or archival tape around the perimeter of your project. Or Stitch a basting stitching around so your fraying under control?
Those are both great ideas!!
I do love to watch your videos. I had to get the magazine collection. I will need at least 5 more life times. 😂😂😂
Unos bordados preciosos aquí en España se borda mucho ha punto de cruz . A mí me relaja desde Barcelona un abrazo
Are you sure you're not craft-ambidextrous and knitting and cross-stitching at the same time? hehe
😂😂😂 - I guess stitching since I was 10 has made me decently fast?? But I’m still working on the knitting & stitching at the same time thing 😂😂
Love the new intro!!!
Oh did you read A man called Ove as well? It’s so good! You probably have by now as its been two years… hahah sorry - also i love the yarn purchases you made, i have not knitted since my children were tiny but could so easily be tempted by you! - take care, Nic x
I have!!! Such a fantastic book :)
Thank you so much. I’ll keep you posted as to my success🤗
A Man Called Ove was also very good, and I recommend. I'll check on Amazon for Anxious People. Very nice video.
There is no right or wrong way to knit from a cake of yarn. If you knit from the inside, you can pull smoothly (hopefully) but the cake will collapse on itself at some point. If you knit from the outside, you will avoid the grand collapse. It’s personal preference. Try both and do what you prefer.
Awesome - thanks for letting me know! I'm really liking knitting from the outside :)
I realise this video is a year old, but OMG - thanks for the TGOS tip. I just purchased all editions!
Yay!!! So happy to enable 😊😊
Hi Shiloh
Your projects are very pretty.
Did you knit your first pair of socks on a circular needle using the “magic loop” method?
I use a 9 inch circular needle (teensy tiny!) - I haven’t quite figured out magic loop & I like the small circular needle!!
Beautiful pieces! ❤️🤗
It really varies how long it takes me to finish a project, bc I tend to work on a bunch of things & rotate between them!! Lol
I think I started Etude earlier this year? And I’m still not finished it bc I keep getting distracted by other things lol 😊
