    The slats were spring loaded and should be out on the ground and were for landing and take off for a little extra lift and like you said so it doesn't stall. They didn't play any part in any other manoeuvres. All the same as the 109s later like the 262 were manual. They had issues on approach where the lower spreads on a turn the wing at the highest point would pop out generating anuf lift the lost control of it through itself out.

    Hi Gary. That 1mm hole issue in Step 1 can be circumvented by putting a 0.5mm hole in each position first as a guide, then going for the 1mm.

    Nice build as always, Gary. This a/c should have had more attention. In '410 form, it was a more than capable design and very advanced for its time. It was also one of the very few twin engine a/c whilst on intruder missions over UK airspace that could outpace a Mosquito and, as a consequence, be extremely difficult to intercept.
    Hard to believe that the Cosford example had both of its DB601s running as late as 1987 when it was at RAF St Athen. Brilliant.😊

    The Me 210/310/410 evolution is a fascinating story. And the one behind you at Cosford with its weapon bay doors open is fascinating to study. PS. I would've liked to have seen how you did the seatbelts. Otherwise a build that makes me want to buy one and have a go.

    Hi Gary, In your first few moments, I love that you have written in the paint colours in the instructions so that you don't have to keep turning to the "key" as you build. (I admit I did that with the screw sizes when I built a shed this year but I have obviously been too slow to do it with model building too) thanks for the tip.
    It occurs to me that, in general, when you want to try drilling those holes with the broken out sides (stage 1 ?) it is sometimes possible to pilot with a smaller drill and then open up from the other side. However this one looks a bit busy on the other side too.
    In your weathering, do you think the paint might get chipped around those fuel fillers and the general walk areas?
    I couldn't help compare those spiral decals to the view over your shoulder. What was a sort of standard must have had a lot of variation in width. Either way, we used to paint them by hand without much difficulty though I doubt my hand will be so steady now.
    When I get one of these (I might fancy a torpedo carrier), I shall have to remember to paint the fuselage before I attach the barbettes to my "toy" (I like to vary the pose from time to time to revitalise them) as otherwise they will leave a bare area.
    This is a good and enjoyable build, very good.

    Putting the spar in take 27... Who hasn't done that especially when it isn't easily clamped. Airfix seem to be giving quite a few options in recent kits for things like elevators in a kit that is reasonably priced. Very useful build video.

    Wing slats often droop on the ground because there is no wind pressure to keep them up. The wing slats also helped with keeping the landing speed lower

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think on the Bf-109 they were spring loaded so they were out at lower airspeeds but pushed back when the plane flew faster.

    @julianmhall 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hi Gary.. agreed about the holes, perhaps they should have marked them on the opposite side so the modeller could drill through?
    Ref the instrument panel in the centre low down. From the pilot's seat it looks like it was only just off his eyeline when looking through the glass panel on the floor, so perhaps they replicate the normal instruments so if the pilot is on a bombing run he doesn't have to look away from the target below him?

  • @davidparry5479
    @davidparry5479 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Gary im just wondering if the two holes in the cockpit would be better to drill a pilot hole with a smaller drill bit first then drill withnthe 1mm bi from the other side. Also i tend to agree the propeller spinners spirals are a tad to wide as you can see on the real one in the end of your video . Otherwise it looks like its a lovely little kit and goes together well. 😊

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Certainly drilling the hole could have been better - but I was intent on following the instructions and not thinking clearly enough! As for the spirals - I imagine that Airfix did some more research than just looking at the preserved aircraft as they can hold years of mistakes. The props on the Telford aircraft, for example, had received some damage and so were filed down to look more square. I hope (!) Luke at Airfix had plenty of photo references when briefing Cartograf!

    Thanks. Awesome' Stuff' as usual Mr.G. All good comments. After seeing the research they do and all the new cad-cam tech,instruction upgrades it is bizarre the mistakes that arent quality controlled out! Didn't someone do a final review? On the pozzie its a lovely looking beast and a nice fresh choice from our mates at Airfix. Despite all efforts i couldnt go to the Telford show and was gutted. 60th anniversary and would have been my first time. Was it as epic as it sounded? Definately next year and hope to meet you in person as well. Glad you are enjoying making your channel as much as we are watching it. Keep up the good work buddy. Love the different segments of reviews,news and builds. The whats new bit is great. Amazing research. Its just going to keep growing. 21:30...the slats (i believe) are for for LOW speed issues. They provide more wing surface area to avoid stalling during landing (and takeoffs). So its highly likely that they would be seen deployed on the ground.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Generally they are for low speed issues but at medium to high speeds pulling a tight turn there is an increased risk of stalling as the wing goes to a high angle of attack, so the slats would help smooth the airflow and allow a bit tighter turn.

  • @chrisfirth1803

    Lovely kit, but i agree that the decals seem to let it down.
    To my eyes, the spinner decals look like they should be thinner, the width of the band looks too wide.
    Glad i watched this before i attempt my kit and no doubt will watch it again once i am ready to start mine sometime in the future.

    • @garys_stuff

      I use VMS gloss varnish, diluted about 3:1 varnish to water, sprayed through a 0.38mm nozzle in my GHAD-68 airbrush at around 1.4 bar. That gives me enough gloss for decal fixing and for panel washing. For a full gloss finish I'll do one or two top coats as well.

    Those spiral decals look far too fiddly to fit. If the plane behind you is anything to go by they have made them way to wide as well. If I ever bit this kit I'm afraid there would be now way I'd have the patience to mess about with them for that long.
