My father Frank always used to play this, he died when I was 18 and I come here to remember him. Every time, as soon as you play the first note I burst into tears. Thank you, this video means a lot to me.
This is really, really killer man. Uncle Remus is easily my favorite Zappa track and you managed to put the same amount of soul into this as the original. I love how you worked the lead vocals in there but still made sure the piano parts were the highlight, very nice arranging skills.
Jeeeeeezuzzz... You gave that song a serious schoolin. So freakin good, I keep coming back to it. I'm an aspiring piano/keyboardist and I sought out tutorials on this song (of which I found nothing worthwhile) and found this gem. I want to be able to sing while I play this, so I'll probably play a dumbed down version. Like really dumbed down. But now that I've seen this I'm inspired to learn it instrumentally as well. Amazing work.
One of the best covers of this piece I’ve ever seen. You’re channeling George Duke! Beautifully played! Thank you for posting, the world needs more of this!
F*cking beautiful playing - bang on. What a brilliant keyboard part by the late, great George Duke!!! I'm not sure about the harmonic origins of this piece, but it sounds to me like a combination of Gospel and Jazz???
Background singers in the studio version were the Ike-ettes. One of those ladies is Tina Turner. Yes. Tina Turner and Frank Zappa have two albums in the books. Both recorded at Ike's Studio. Greatness.
Man your so goddamn talented! I play guitar and have just started picking up the piano, you have no idea how bad I want to play like you! Honest to god though your fucking amazing, if you don't play music for a living I don't know whats wrong with the world.
If I could learn to play this... my life would be COMPLETE. Do you hear me? COM.PLETE. My brother was hanging out with Duke in Detroit one night (before cell phones) knew he had to call me from a pay phone to get me down there. I was at school, two hours out, pushed 100 mph all the way there with dreams of learning this intro.... missed him by ten minutes, and here I find myself... lost. Rest well George DUKE!
Excellent version, great passion put into this I think, not a musician myself but can see you have a technical skill and put feeling into this fabulous piece of music by Uncle Frank.
Awesome job Erik, a really inspiring arrangement. I've been teaching myself this tune on piano for a few weeks now, its the hardest tune I've learnt so far as I'm a guitarist really. I need to go back and sprinkle some of your amazing fills in there. For those wanting to get started with this tune there is a free passable score here, along with other Zappa arrangements. musescore.com/user/150634/scores/152060
Just one correction - it's George Duke's composition, all the more that you don't use FZ's lirics... Atherwise very nice personal rendition, brilliantly played... so, one can say it's your own song. ;) Bravo!
MrWaterpumpkin ok but the two version are completely different, I’m a great fan of duke but I prefer Zappa’s version. And he’s following that one for the lyrics.
My father Frank always used to play this, he died when I was 18 and I come here to remember him. Every time, as soon as you play the first note I burst into tears. Thank you, this video means a lot to me.
This is already one of the most beautiful songs ever written, no one can blame you. I hope all is well and that you've been making out alright
This is why we should have social media.
Fantastic arrangement and playing Erik. George Duke would be proud!
George would be envious
So so so good! Frank and George are smiling down upon you!!!🎵🎶🎹🎼❤️
This is really, really killer man. Uncle Remus is easily my favorite Zappa track and you managed to put the same amount of soul into this as the original. I love how you worked the lead vocals in there but still made sure the piano parts were the highlight, very nice arranging skills.

I'm already a fairly ok guitar player and you just inspired me to take up piano
Bravo !!! Fuckin amazin . You put all the sadness of the song in there ! Virtuoso.
If I could learn to play this... my life would be COMPLETE. Do you hear me? COM.PLETE. Chris Overath Mr. Duke said in an interview he already had the song done and Zappa made some lyrics for it after
MrWaterpumpkin ok but the two version are completely different, I’m a great fan of duke but I prefer Zappa’s version. And he’s following that one for the lyrics.
