Back in the days before the police decided patrolling hurt feelings on the internet was more important than dealing with actual criminals...

London has more police on duty at any time than many forces have in police over all inc the police they have on sick and leave. some forces are so short of officers they have to just ignore many crimes, and not even attend many more. The conservative government has cut the force so dangerously today it makes crime pay without consequence of getting caught. I live in a valley town in Wales we used to have a small station here and crime was relatively low with police patrols doing their jobs but today that's gone and crime especially at night has gone up as we seem never to get patrols any longer. Only time we seem to see a police car is when they come to arrest someone for a crime elsewhere. Phoning 999 used to get through quickly and response was relatively quick, but today you can phone 999 and get told by the operator sorry their not answering the phone. It's a public disgrace what they have done to the police force and allowed crime to run rampant in Britain. I know we are not the only area of the UK where forces have been cut so low they cannot any longer do their job, but the Tories seem not to care as long as it doesn't happen to them ad their backers.

18:40 I sure as hell wouldn't want that cop anywhere near me the way he was waving that hand gun around, loaded or unloaded you never ever put your finger on the trigger until you're ready to fire, nor point a weapon in a persons direction the way he was loaded or unloaded.

Yeh the nerve of him blocking up the emergency line and really what was wrong with that caller at 24:00 was 999 was free of charge and calling the local station would have cost him 20p the tight gitt.

This was during the peak of the Job, when we were a force and when we reacted to all calls. Now of course they are recruiting social justice warriors who are more interested in virtue signalling than actual policing. So so sad they way the Job has gone.

Interesting what a cultural difference exists between the US and the UK when it comes to police use of guns. In the US, the law enforcement officer (detective?) with the gun would have been asked afterwards---over and over again---why he didn't use it earlier. (We still think of ourselves as ruled by the cowboy mentality, even if we don't use the actual word "cowboy" every day.) Said officer would have been subjected to intense criticism within his department as well as by the public for not using his gun for six days. People raking him over the coals with "He could have ended all this much sooner, perhaps saved hostage's lives," etc. He would have been expected to suffer emotionally because hostage(s) were killed and "maybe he could have done something." UK LE values are different, and I understand that! I admire his cool head under all this mess. Grenades to contend with! I think an American officer would not have been so patient, but perhaps I am underestimating LE individuals here. We have many fine officers that must think under pressure constantly and certainly some would know when NOT to act (although that is always a crapshoot too), but I don't think that is as heavily emphasized in LE training here (I admit I might be wrong). There is, instead, an emphasis on action over caution (in my opinion) that is part of our particular DNA. My hat's off to this officer, even if it's more than 20 years later!
