Opera2 was the second performance of The Singer competition in 2017 in China. The song is in Russian. A language he also speaks fluently. The original was from the famous Russian singer named Vitas. The man who raises his fist in the air at the end is Dimash’s father. He came from Kazakhstan to support his son. However, Dimash knew nothing about it when he performed. I think it was very difficult for him at the beginning. You have to imagine, until this competition in China in 2017 he never was alone. Dimash, like many other Kazakhs, has the tradition of living under one roof with the whole family all together. He lives with his grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother an other relatives in the same house. And now he had to go to China alone, didn‘t know the country, didn‘t know the language, didn‘t know the traditions or livestyle in this country and up to that point he spoke (almost) no English, except maybe „Thank you“ and „My name is Dimash“. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 20 so I can imagine…). And after that performance he saw his dad. So beautiful and emotional. BTW the audience is also the jury. During the Opera 2 performance, he flirted with the audience in a way that wasn’t really his habit at the time (fortunately that has changed in the meantime). And afterwards he said that he was really uncomfortable that his father saw him like that🤭. Luckily he didn’t find out until afterwards because I love it when he’s like that on stage🥰. I love this video because he still seemed so innocent. Just a boy and he didn't seem as serious as he sometimes is these days. He still looked carefree. All the singers invited to this show are already well-known artists in China who have already won awards. They became aware of him because he had already won some important competitions in Kazakhstan and Belarus, among others. He was still completely unknown in China. Actually, it was intended that he would only have 1 or 2 appearances. But it came completely different. It’s really important to know what the song is about. In the Singer version he was so sick and had a severe sore throat and fever. He lost his voice the night before his performance of Daybreak. I heard him say in an interview that it was very painful throughout the song, that his throat feels like shredded glass but he didn’t want to disappoint the people who stand behind him and so he pulled himself together and went on stage. He got 5 injections from this doctor in the hospital. And the doctor told him not to sing high notes. You can see how concerned the other competitors were and they suffered with him. They knew he was not doing well and one of them even gave him a very expensive Chinese medicine from his own inventory. The problem was his busy schedule between the performances and he didn’t have enough time to recover. He made very good friends there and many friendships still exist today. After the performance he lost his voice again. It’s unbelievable how he always manages to convey emotions to such a degree. Though I think in this one particular version the emotions he shows are mostly concern about his voice keeping up with the song and the pain he must have been in doing it. The Bastau version (no sore throat) of Daybreak is phenomenal and mind-blowing. So emotional and heartbreaking. Maybe you can do both together. Many reactors do and so you can see the difference between this two performances. In both versions I always cry my eyes out. I don’t know why I have to cry more. The audience is all singers/musicians, who are the judges. Dimash was an invited wild card contestant among Chinese established stars already, the only non-Chinese at the time. He came in second as only a Chinese could win then, & Sandy Lam won it....the first lady you mentioned, where he kind of flirted with. He was 22 at the time, the youngest ever on that show. Dimash's dad [dark suited fellow they kept showing] was secretly in the audience to surprise him after he finished singing & the longer version shows it all.
This song is very famous in Russia (original artist-Vitas). The story is very simple. It is about a man who has built his house out in the wilderness but is now all alone with his thoughts and the cold Autumn wind for company. The high notes where Dimash keeps going up by a half octave is supposed to mimic this wind blowing outside his door. I love this performance because it is the first one after Dimash hit mega-Stardom. Of course as a 22 year old, he is a bit cocky. Yes, the crowd has just discovered him in a previous performance with SOS, and they had to fetch him for the following performance with the police to escort him because of the crowd outside the hotel. I think it was the first time Dimash showed himself out of Kazakistan, and yes he was much younger. Yes, the people the camera shows are his competitors, and of course he crushed it. He came second only because he was not chinese, and he was the youngest contestant. Also if you see the end of the video, they show his father who came to see him in secret to surprise him. Those people who are in lit back rooms (green rooms) are the other contestants. I love how much they love him even though he outshines them all. This is what I call a novelty song. The lyrics aren't that important accept as a set up to let you know that his high shrieks are the screaming wind. They lyrics complain about the wind slamming his door, banging on the windows, and howling. This was his second performance on "The Singer." He stole everyone's heart in the first episode with S.O.S. It's fun to watch this series, because we get to know some of the more expressive audience members.

For a more recent song (sone in 2022 - during COVID restrictions) look at Ikanaide (sung in perfect Japanese -- as native speakers have claimed) It shows his incredible growth from age 22 to 28.
That was Sandy Lin and she won the show. I have always had my doubts about that. Not only could Dimash out-sing her but there were other singers who I thought were better as well. She was talented but there were others who, in my opinion, were better too. I watched all the episodes of "The Singer 2017". It was a great show with backstage scenes and with Eng. translations. Sandy Lin was a beloved and favorite singer of the producers and audience. Dimash took second place. He won the first two rounds, and it should have been the first four. He won round six with "Adagio", and should have won with "Unforgettable Day", which he wrote at 19 yrs. of age, and "All By Myself." Dimash was invited as a wild card. He was the youngest and the first foreigner to participate. So I'm sure they would not allow a first-timer to win over their professional and established singers. Dimas was 22 and the other singers were 12-39 yrs. his senior. By the way, the original singer of Opera 2 forbade Dimash to ever sing that song again anywhere. For your own enjoyment, there are other videos of this with Eng. translations. Yes, he is telling a story. You stopped it too soon. He got 5 injections from this doctor in the hospital. And the doctor told him not to sing high notes. You can see how concerned the other competitors were and they suffered with him. They knew he was not doing well and one of them even gave him a very expensive Chinese medicine from his own inventory. The problem was his busy schedule between the performances and he didn’t have enough time to recover. He made very good friends there and many friendships still exist today. After the performance he lost his voice again.
It’s unbelievable how he always manages to convey emotions to such a degree. Though I think in this one particular version the emotions he shows are mostly concern about his voice keeping up with the song and the pain he must have been in doing it.
The Bastau version (no sore throat) of Daybreak is phenomenal and mind-blowing. So emotional and heartbreaking. Maybe you can do both together. Many reactors do and so you can see the difference between this two performances.
In both versions I always cry my eyes out. I don’t know why I have to cry more. Because of the story or the fact, that he was in such pain and performed anyway because he didn’t want to disappoint the audience. Both version were in the same year 2017.

What I love about the Chinese competitors is that they don’t behave like competitors. Everyone wishes everyone luck. Everyone watches the other’s performance. Clap, sing along. In my opinion, no one begrudges the success of another. They might not have taken Dimash seriously at first, but that quickly changed after SOS. Through ist honest, cheerful and open nature, he found friends very quickly. Contacts that still exist today. Especially to Terry Lin. Just for fun, Terry adopted Dimash and Dimash named him Papa Lin.

The others are fellow competitors in The Singer 2017, & Opera 2 was Dimash's second performance after the first one being SOS. The audience is all singers/musicians, who are the judges. Dimash was an invited wild card contestant among Chinese established stars already, the only non-Chinese at the time. He came in second as only a Chinese could win then, & Sandy Lam won it....the first lady you mentioned, where he kind of flirted with. He was 22 at the time, the youngest ever on that show.

This song is very famous in Russia (original artist-Vitas). The story is very simple. It is about a man who has built his house out in the wilderness but is now all alone with his thoughts and the cold Autumn wind for company. The high notes where Dimash keeps going up by a half octave is supposed to mimic this wind blowing outside his door.
I love this performance because it is the first one after Dimash hit mega-Stardom. Of course as a 22 year old, he is a bit cocky. He has had a week of women throwing themselves at him everywhere he went.😂😅

Yes, the crowd has just discovered him in a previous performance with SOS, and they had to fetch him for the following performance with the police to escort him because of the crowd outside the hotel. There are several performances, including at least 2 where he hits the true whistle register, that can be found. One of those performances is a medley with a song called The Drunken Concubine. Why not try some of his Kazakh songs? They are very important part of his repertoire and his soul. For instance, Samaltau. Either 2020 Tokyo Jazz Festival version or 2021 DIgital Concert version, or perhaps both, as they are equally amazing. Both are on his TH-cam channel.

Those people who are in lit back rooms (green rooms) are the other contestants. I love how much they love him even though he outshines them all. This is what I call a novelty song. The lyrics aren't that important accept as a set up to let you know that his high shrieks are the screaming wind. They lyrics complain about the wind slamming his door, banging on the windows, and howling. This was his second performance on "The Singer." He stole everyone's heart in the first episode with S.O.S. It's fun to watch this series, because we get to know some of the more expressive audience members.

For a more recent song (sone in 2022 - during COVID restrictions) look at Ikanaide (sung in perfect Japanese -- as native speakers have claimed) It shows his incredible growth from age 22 to 28.
That was Sandy Lin and she won the show. I have always had my doubts about that. Not only could Dimash out-sing her but there were other singers who I thought were better as well. She was talented but there were others who, in my opinion, were better too. I watched all the episodes of "The Singer 2017". It was a great show with backstage scenes and with Eng. translations. Sandy Lin was a beloved and favorite singer of the producers and audience. Dimash took second place. He won the first two rounds, and it should have been the first four. He won round six with "Adagio", and should have won with "Unforgettable Day", which he wrote at 19 yrs. of age, and "All By Myself." Dimash was invited as a wild card. He was the youngest and the first foreigner to participate. So I'm sure they would not allow a first-timer to win over their professional and established singers. Dimas was 22 and the other singers were 12-39 yrs. his senior. By the way, the original singer of Opera 2 forbade Dimash to ever sing that song again anywhere.
