This gave me an entirely NEW appreciation for my custom TTK leather shoulder holster. It took about 6 months for it to arrive, from a far away country( middle East). As they never made one for a TTK. I was pleasantly surprised in the product I received. As I know it came from the hands of a creator like yourself. I was a machinist for 20 years. So I appreciate other trade crafts that take "working" the material. The satisfaction of creating handmade things, is unparalleled. I appreciate your mind, sir!
Amazing work on the shoulder holster. I will make one of those next. I just hobby around with leather. Made 3 Alligator pancake holsters for my 3 9mm Taurus in the last 3 months. Nothing fancy, but black alligator sure looks good. I made a custom knife sheath once for $60. The guy sent me a hand drawn outline of the knife. Turned out to be a WW2 Raider Dagger world famous since there were only 15000 made from Camillus knives. He sent me $75 for the sheath instead. 😀 A few years later, I found one of these Knifes for $2000 and bought it. I made a new sheath for it and still have it hanging on my wall.
Do have a video with double holsters or a modular set up Primary on your strong draw side ( Me it would be on the right cause I am left handed never know how to word it) and say be able to change the non dominate side with say a smaller firearm that can switch out with a knife or even just mags
I don't have a video of that style of shoulder rig yet. I usually make them with magazine pouches on the off hand side. There are a few ways to make them modular. You can use screw posts instead of stitches to attach the holster or pouches to the shoulder straps. On the off hand piece you can put slots in it that will accept spring belt clips, and just make your accessories with clips.
I need one like this For a 1911 4" model with a strap across the hammer . To carry Cock a locked. How much right hand with loop on both sides with double Mags
Where can I find the stencil pattern dimensions? Mostly the upper and lower shoulder loop halves? Awesome video thank you. I have a Dan Wesson w/ a 10" barrel that is brutal to carry on the hip and looking online for a shoulder rig that size is near impossible. I do have a Brauer Brothers side holster for it that I would love to incorporate into a vertical shoulder side carry.
This pattern started as the one in Al Stohlman's how to make holsters book. I have changed a few things about it. The book is decades old but I think Tandy leather still carries it. I have also made a video about how I make patterns like this, th-cam.com/video/WN4IBQmzZV0/w-d-xo.html
$100-$125 depending on the features of the holster. A simple vertical holster is easier to make than something with a thumb break strap. It mostly has to do with the amount of time involved.
Great video, thanks ! By any chance do you have this pattern for sale? I know you mentioned a book from Tandy Leather but you modified the original pattern. Please let me know. Thanks
Enjoyed your video a lot, the only question i have is on the octagon back piece for the staps, did you make that yourself? Or is there a patern for it? And what are the measurements for it. Love your work, subbed. Daniel
I usually just cut a rectangle piece of leather and cut off the corners. About 3 inches wide and 2 and 1/2 inches tall. You can also just rivet the straps to a round piece of leather. The straps will swivel if they are just riveted, but they will be much less likely to pull out if the strap goes through a slot in the leather and then gets riveted.
@@bransonsgeneralstore thank you, very much, think i will try the slots, never made one before, but a friend requested one, let you know how it turns out, thanks again,
I am not currently making holsters for sale online. As a hobbyist who still has a full time job I usually get all the orders I have time for from customers of a local gun shop.
You had me at every step and process throughout this whole video.....right up until you put the plastic buckle and the Velcro on it. Should have finished it out with metal "Belt-Style" buckles.
I only used plastic and Velcro because that was specifically asked for by the guy I was making this for. I tell people that Velcro will become weak and I don't like using it.
I like this a lot. I think I'd like the version that would hold a couple extra magazines tho...more symmetrical. The only bad part is, i know you're really good at this and make it look easier than it really is. Just curious, how long did it take you to make this rig?
I am notoriously bad at keeping track of time while working. The shoulder straps are just a couple of hours. The holster I would say 3-4 hours including making the pattern. I have a sewing machine so that saves a lot of time. Add a couple of hours for hand stitching. Some one who is new to leather work will take quite a bit longer. So for me about 5 hours. For someone learning as they go I would guess at least 12 -16 hours.
Lol i must be particularly slow then because I think I have 12 hours tied up in a sheath. So i imagine it would end up taking me at least 24. I was really just mostly curious. I know you have all the tools, knowledge and experience to make it way quicker than I could possibly manage
Your ability to teach definitely shines through in your videos. The things that you point out and even giving the reasons why. I've really naver had the ability to teach stuff. Even things I may be really good at. I can answer most questions asked, but the mindset to know to verbalize it without being asked. Never had that. And maybe that comes from your experience as a teacher, but it just seems natural
@@nateand3 I think about it this way it may take 12 hours to make but its a journey from start to finish what drawn me to leather work then kydex type holsters

What machine are you using as I'd like to try my hand at creating some leather stuff . What brand would you recommend??
TIA
Can you recommend a good leather filler for repairing gouges that is sandable and dyeable? Preferably durable and flexible for shoes
Not anything that I know of, but I haven't had much shoe repair experience. I know leather fillers exist but I haven't used any of them.
any chance to get the shoulder pattern for this rig . I can't find it anywhere

Doesnt cutting on a stone slab dull your knife and punches?
I believe thats a nylon cutting board, not stone.
I’d be interested in pricing one of these for a full size Springfield ronin 5”.
I you are obliged to do so ?

A Cobra class 4 made by leather machines. Great machines basically a knock off of an Adler machine.
