    Thanks for watching! Will you upgrade to Windows Server 2025?

    Would be awesome if MS increased the 15 character limit for hostnames.

    SMB over QUIC is a game changer for fileservers. No need for VPN to access your files when out of office.

    • @ThisWeekinIT
      @ThisWeekinIT  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I thought that was previously available but I see only in the Azure Edition of Windows Server 2022. So, yes indeed it’s a good new feature.

      Doesnt QUIC then effectively become the transport tunnel, e.g. a VPN?

      Yes, but only for the SMB protocol.

    Does MS offer some sort of tool I can use to check if my computer meets their hardware requirements?
    I'd like to try it, but I the hardware requirements webpage from MS leaves me with more questions than answers.
    Also do any of these Windows Server 2025 versions include any CALs or do you always have to buy even the first 5 CALs seperately?

    And when your in-place upgrade fails, you have no way to recover. Always always migrate in a controlled way so you have a fall back plan

      Or just have backups.

    I'm use Server 2016 Essentials mainly to backup network pc's and after cutting the cable cord a media server. my concern is support that's ending soon, as a "look up the answer for hours if something goes wrong" person, how easy is it to do a "tongue in-cheek" simple upgrade or will I need to do a fresh install. I don't use if for anything else but back-and to have a 2nd and 3rd copy of thing. Thanks in advance.

    Running 2016 Essentials for home use as a media server and pc/file backup. I know the network backup is gone after 19 and willing to move to external storage (at the sacrifice of speed) but how would I access the server as I now use RDC? I'll also loose full network Workstation backup 1pc and 4 laptops, and suggestion on a solution for that other than online, don't want a continued cost? Thanks

    server 2025 is the best W11 for your laptop, there is a git repo that will install the msstore as well

      Is it easier on system resources than "win 11"? My old computer shoked when i installed win 11 on it

      I am using it on a surface laptop. Windows Store is already functional. Unlike Server 2022, when you go to install a store app it will run the install instead of failing, they just didn't make it visible to you through the GUI.
      (This is anecdotal, all store apps that I tried to install using the links from their respective websites have worked for me when they don't on 2022.)

    This was a very informative video. Thank you so much for putting this together! I will be trying Server 2025 in my Hyper-v lab and then maybe start trying it out in Azure with some of my customers. I also plan to try Purple Night. Great job 😎

    Yes, people should upgrade. To Linux :))

    • @LiveWireBT

      "A new version of the operating system is here, should we upgrade?" Windows, the only place where that happens.
      Meanwhile on Linux: Immutable Systems with A-B partitioning that upgrade automatically. In seconds.
      There are professionals who do, ... and idiots who find excuses.

    How old is each of the "Roles & Features" in Windows Server 2025, when was the last time they got updated?
    eg: DNS Server, DHCP Server, etc...

    Every time I attempt to upgrade from Windows server 2022 to Windows Server 2025 after the first reboot it says Disk Error and I have to restore it back to Server 2022. I have tried everything but every time I installed 2025 upgrade mode keep everything I get the same Disk Read error when it reboots. HELP.

      Just a thought but is your storage adapter compatible with Server 2025? Looks like there are certain storage adapter types that aren't supported, but it seems like it would check for this in the upgrade process.

      @@brorober Turned out to be secure boot. You have to be in secure boot in the bios to install and launch Windows 2025 server.

    13:52 there are no big new features?What in the world are you talking about?
    Windows Autopatch and AD becoming NUMA-aware are just two of the significant enhancements in Server 25.

    • @ThisWeekinIT
      @ThisWeekinIT  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ll give you Autopatch but NUMA support is hardly earth shattering. And Autopatch will only be must-have for some customers.

    • @SamErde
      @SamErde 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Autopatch would be a killer feature if it was offered out of the box to all customers (heck, even if they made it require datacenter licenses).
