  • In this video I show my chest pack and what I carry on stream. (Update) As of August 2021, I've changed from a clinch knot to the 16-20 knot. I've been very impressed with it, and it hasn't failed me. Here's a video on how to tie it: tetontenkara.b...

    I recently retired from work and one of the people who I worked with bought this BIG tackle box as a gift for me. I swear it's way too big for anything I will need.....way too big. I thanked him for it but I'll never use it for it's intended use, I like yours on here much more, it's more the size I like.

    I use the Mini Pack Zimmerbuild when it's hot, but I use Zimmerbuild Sling for all day fishing..
    Awesome video I've learned a lot

    Great! I'm interested in your clip on glasses. I can't find a pair that will stay on, lost a few last season.

      My clip on magnifiers are this brand. I use them when tying. They work reasonably well and are inexpensive. www.amazon.com/dp/B07YZ3292G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_1F5V84K2T34KYM4HWP67?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

    Great no-nonsense compact set-up, thanks for sharing. Appreciate the tippet catch appliance to keep the discarded tippet out of nature. Do you use heavier line when fishing beaded nymphs, and why?

    • @TetonTenkara
      @TetonTenkara  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still use 5.5X when I fish bead head nymphs. My goal with bead heads is to get them down fast, and small diameter tippet sinks faster than larger tippet. Occasionally I will use stronger tippet like 4-4.5X when the water is really fast or larger trout are expected.

      @@TetonTenkara yes indeed a smaller tippet cuts through the water much better. But I meant mainline, wondering if using a #3.5 or #4 line would offset the slingshot casting with the tungsten beaded nymphs while a #3 line would work fine with a regular kebari. I haven't tried it myself but what you said at a certain point made me think you had.

      Sorry for misunderstanding your question. Typically, if I’m just fishing one bead head nymph, then I continue with my usual #3 level line. However, if I change over to a tandem set up with a dropper and point fly which are both bead heads, then I will usually change to a #3.5 level line. It just seems to help me cast the heavier combination better.

      @@TetonTenkara thanks, that confirms what I thought, I am certainly going to try it. By the way, I fish with a Daiwa master tenkara that I purchased after I read your review. Very happy I did.

    What type of pack/sling do you use to carry a spare rod for longer hikes? With a focus on avoiding an overly-sweaty back, I have been limiting myself to waist-packs or para-corded smaller pouches which can be worn cross-body...which does not help when it comes to toting a spare 24” collapsed rod.

      I have a both a Zimmerbuilt TailWater Pack (www.zimmerbuilt.com/store/p34/TailWater_Pack.html) and a DeadDrift Pack (www.zimmerbuilt.com/store/p33/DeadDrift_Pack.html). I like both of them a lot. They work better for me than a sling-type pack. Most outings I don't carry an extra rod, but when I do I either stick it in my back pocket (secured with my belt) or carry it with one of these packs. The DeadDrift is perfect when only a few things are needed (lunch, water filter). The TailWater will carry a little more (Lunch, water filter, first aid kit, light jacket, etc). I too hate the sweaty back thing, but oh well.

    Привет, Том. Хорошее видео, но не скажу, что ты минималист экипировки тенкары. Много лишнего носишь с собой. Тем более , ты рыбачишь в известных тебе местах и алгоритм рыбалки отработан. Каков размер коробки с мухами? Сколько в ней мух, штук? Мой набор посмотри здесь www.tenkaraprim.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=621&p=23952#p23952 Сумку я ношу теперь на поясе (ремень ведерсов или поясной ремень рюкзака). Раньше носил на груди ( как и ты).

      Hello Sergey! Yes, I agree that there are a few items that I carry that I don't need to. The fly box is 5 1/2" x 3 3/4" x 1" and holds well over one hundred flies. I could carry a smaller box, but I find this one works just fine for me. Best regards.
      Здравствуйте Сергей! Да, я согласен с тем, что есть несколько вещей, которые мне не нужны. Ящик для мух имеет размеры 5 1/2 "x 3 3/4" x 1 "и вмещает более сотни мух. Я мог бы нести коробку меньшего размера, но я считаю, что этот мне подходит. С наилучшими пожеланиями.

      @@TetonTenkara Очень большая коробка для мух. У меня 10*8*2,5 см , как у Исигаки Хисао. 30 мух на несколько рыбалок - это более чем много.
