    Either the hydraulic hoses are reversed or the control is being operated in reverse. The outcome is the auger running counterclockwise.

      True.. I previously worked on Toro commercial equipment that did the same thing when the hoses were reversed.( on some various attachments, not in this case where it has F & R )

    One (of the MANY) great things about these videos is: it shows how much work is involved in "simple" projects!
    To the unaware, they see (or more likely DON'T see) a "little expansion of a driveway", with NO understanding or appreciation of the amount of knowledge, organization, or effort it takes to be an unnoticed piece of infrastructure!
    Good Job! I'm sure the customer is [or SHOULD BE!] happy!
    BTW, they sell plastic yellow covers for the bollards. Saves maintenance and damage of the super-minor bumps/scratches( to the bollards AND vehicles)
    See ya on the next one!

    Don't screw the auger down into the ground like a corkscrew, and don't reverse it as you withdraw - keep it spinning forward, but only push it in a little at a time, letting the screw pull the dirt to the surface as you go. I think you'll find you make much better progress when you don't have to stop and bang the packed dirt out of the screw, and when you don't reverse out of the hole leaving the dirt behind.

    • @GCFD
      @GCFD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think you're right! This was a regular flow machine so it wouldn't spin fast enough to throw the dirt off.

    2:36 "Hey, you're goin' in reverse !" Unless there was some heavy-duty editing at this point, it was interesting to see what might be cultural differences here. This Hispanic crew made the correction in a very straight-faced way as though there was a lot of embarrassment to get past. Any crew I ever worked with would probably be laughing and teasing each other at the mistake and our slowness in picking up on what was wrong.

    Good for aesthetic, but most bollards require a 2' diameter hole, occasionally I see 18" spec'd out. But either way that soil on the top of the hill would give way first on impact, so probably fine as is. Also next time you remove a curb & gutter, you might consider paving a v-gutter where the existing curb's gutter line was to channel the water instead of letting it run centered over a construction joint. Thanks for putting these together, I bet it takes a lot of time to get back for rain footage on every job!

    At an older facility, bollards were installed to protect the loading bay door frames as occasionally a truck would clip a roll up door while backing in. Installed bollards, problem solved.

Also seemed to spin a bit slow, I've always had then throw dirt when you pull it up. Drill going the wrong way and when he is drilling he has to keep the drill going when pulling it back out to remove the dirt, so that you will not have loose dirt at the bottom. Which mihgt cause the bollards to sink.

  • @johnclements6614
    @johnclements6614 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Measure down from the top of the bollards and put some tap on them at the ground level. You can push them into the concrete and when the tape is at ground level the tops will be close to in line. Then finish pour then adjust using your eyes to line through. Where possible on a slope look up hill as looking down hill plays tricks on the eyes.

    The job came out great! I noticed right away that the auger was spinning in reverse. I didn’t notice until the very end that it was the same job where you installed the drain at the bottom of the hill. Enjoyed both videos! By the way, your check engine light is on!😂

    Find the machine operator with the most kids, Shawn, and he will be an expert in screwing vs unscrewing.

    I find it works best if I run my drill in reverse when installing screws too. :-)
    I liked the facepalm moment a little later.
    As a side note, I haven't used a post hole digger in a very long time but it seems to be spinning way too slow. I remember dirt flying off the auger when it reaches the surface. I wonder if it's meant for a skid loader with a high speed flow 3rd function?

    When you want to go forward...do not shift into reverse.

    I'm surprised you didn't get Reflector Tape (Either Yellow, or Red/White) and wrap around the very top and half way on each Bullard. Those little sticks are not going to do anything for the drivers, LOL. As you see about the big black mark on the yellow already.
