Great overview. Got the board myself recently but didnt realise i could get fox or tygem to work by switching to chinese. So awsome to be able to play a game over the board on those Servers

It works a bit differently now, you need to download the 3rd party app from the board app store and start the 3rd party app (that contains fox and tygem) from the store as well by clicking on the same button where you downloaded it first, which starts the app. But its still possible :)

Hey there. Do you know how to change the game settings on both human vs ai and human vs human to Japanese rules and also how to adjust Komi?

Excellent video. I would love to see how you navigate around using Google lens as well as how you install the 3rd party apps to play online. I've been very interested in this board for a long time. Do you feel it was worth the price point?

Honestly hard to judge if its "worth" it, considering I just got it this week and I've mostly been busy uncovering its secrets instead of using it normally. I have played 3 online games with it so far, though, and honestly, its the best online Go experience I had so far. It just feels much more natural to not focus on a PC screen and playing with actual stones. It really feels just more like playing with an actual person. If you dont mind the money too much, and you really want to cut down on screen time, this could be very much worth it, yes.
I still need to use the tsumego/training programs more, play with the review modes a bit more in depth and also really want to use it with friends on a go evening to play and analyze, so there is still lots to try out! :) (Though to be fair, there is also a lot that still should be polished/translated, but I think I'll make another video on this).
There is an integrated app store for the third party apps, so not much hassle there, unfortunately only Tygem and Fox seem to work for English speakers right now as the others require a chinese telephone number.
And regarding google lens: I literally just hold my phone over the screen and have it instant translate the menues. Not much to it. Once you know which buttons/menues you need, you dont need to translate all that much anymore and for most features you can stick with the English setup.

love the introduction! imo I just hate seeing you have to click the white button everytime

Glad it helps! And yeah, I somewhat agree. I mean in an online game with some decent time it does feel like pressing the timer button on a tournament clock, so its not as bad as "simulating" a 2 player match alone. Its not a huge issue, but I absolutely would prefer having the option of not using the button for online matches. I talked a lot about this in my long feedback to the manager of the company that makes the board and they are currently discussion my feedback. I am really curious how this will keep developing.

is it possible to turn off the sound in this board?

    • @user-rb8of1qh8m

Yeah, it takes a bit to find it in the menus, but you can change the volume or turn it off.

    this thing costs £1,000 ridiculous.
    should be less than £100

It could maybe be cheaper, because being the only product like it means it can ask whatever price. But playing go without needing to look at a screen after working for 8 hours was still worth it for me at least.

@@user-rb8of1qh8m yeah but for a board game it priced itself out of the entire population and it's entire user base except for maybe a few hundred people globally.
this will probably will prevent mass adoption. which will prevent more future sales.
there's a reason football is more popular than f1 as a sport. and it has to do with cost of entry to play it.

@@user-rb8of1qh8m i dont have much time to play go by person, still - i work as a software engineer all day long in front of PC, i would just love to sit and look at some pieces. The price is a bit prohibitive, but if this is your to-go (bad joke) passion, you did good to buy it. In my mind, i'm still convinced i can do something similar (less integrated with reviews & so, but still functional to play) with an external camera & OBS (for videos), a Projector to "project back the move" on the table, and a C# software that takes screenshots and calls a KataGo local server to do the moves. But i'm very lazy :D

Yes, it's expensive, but I think if they could truly translate the interface into English throughout (so you never saw Mandarin characters if set to English), they would have a product that people would buy. There are quite a few great features. I think learning joseki by feeling and seeing them in real life would be easier than using a computer screen.
