Pity you didn't use a later model UCE 500 ( UCE - unit construction engine) for your comparison. Better shifting, better everything than the lean burn pre unit 500 engine you rode.
I’ve had 2 UCE models. They are better shifting but not quite as peppy as the AVL. They are a tiny bit smoother and a little tiny bit more top speed. This AVL stops way better than any UCE I’ve had. This is also the nicest sharpest handling of my bullets/classics. That being said the UCE’s are nice to have fuel injection.
Had a 2006 Royla Enfield black 350 classic here in the UK. as it says on the label classic this bike had a 4 speed drum brakes front & rear and the gear shift on the right same as the old British bikes of the 50 & 60s and it had contact breakers old school it was ok country roads but main roads was hard work
I have a Tribute Black 500 Classic, which I couldn't bring myself to part with. So after a great deal of thought I've now purchased a 350 Meteor to go with the 500 in the garage. I don't need a large capacity machine with the mileage I do, so I have 2 perfect bikes really.
@@MCCJustMotos Hi, well I've had my Meteor a week now and have complete just over 150 miles. I found the Meteor is more comfortable and easier to ride than the 500. However, the Classic 500 is definitely the more powerful machine with a lot more torque. If they did a modern 500 single with the same 27bhp as the old OHV model it would be cracking machine.
I love the meteor. It looks super rad. I've never tried a heel toe shifter, but I can imagine how good that would feel on the shift compared to the KLR. Cheers buddy.
@@MCCJustMotos ummmmm everything! The taillight actually. I fell for the taillight and the rest followed. I love the chrome ring around the headlight and that, with the offset speedometer, both of those things remind me of an old Vincent (I don't have the Nav gauge). And the sound of the bike when I'm stopped in traffic,I love that!
Never seen a comparison between the AVL & J series models before, maybe you can include the UCE C500 as well in another video, thanks for sharing and cheers from Chennai 🛺
The standard rear suspension is definitely a bit hard and harsh, but a switch to the endurance shocks as used for the bullet 500 makes it 20 - 30% better
You bet Steve..ask and you shall receive ;) I will be comparing and testing all the new 350 cc motorbikes next Saturday during a subscriber meet & greet :D I’ll let you know how the classic compairs to the bullets and classics of “yonder”
Carburetor 500 will run cooler the 350 with EFI run lean so they run hot 🔥🥵 as Hades.500 don't have a ll the pollution controls waiting to have a expensive failure. The 500 gets my vote.
I don't know why you didn't test an EFi 500 bullet against the Meteor. That would have been a fairer test in my opinion and more interesting because I'm thinking of buying one of those. The Meteor looks too sanitised to appeal to beginners and the styling is rather naff to the point of being laughed at by regular bikers. It's a sissy bike.
You have an intresting take, I’ve never heard anyone with that opinion. But, hey to each their own right? Why didn’t I test the efi model? Well, I don’t currently own an efi bullet 500. If you want to buy me one, I’ll defiantly test it. That being said I’ve owned 2 EFI aluminum barrel Bullet/classic 500’s. I can tell you the AVL (carb/aluminum barrel) handles and stops bettter and is a bit quicker .
@@MCCJustMotos The fact is new owners aren't keeping the Meteor and there are loads on offer with extremely low mileage because they're underpowered, slow, boring and lack the old wolde charm of the Bullet 500, and with cast wheels the Meteor looks awful so I don't know who they would appeal too. Definitely not the younger A2 licence holders whose 125 learner bikes are faster, and definitely not to older riders like myself. I realise they sold well given their asking price, but it appears the owners are disillusioned and part exchanging them with less than 2000 miles on the clock.. I've seen one with 480 miles on the clock on eBay so I would say they are awful things that lack the charm and the classic looks of the 500 bullet, but may be suitable for women and short males who are vertically challenged.
I like the triangle tool side covers of some of the bullets rather than the stretched angled ones.
That is cool..I like um both! :D

I'd take the elextra x 500 all day everyday. I personally ride an LB 350(AVL) Thunderbird. Love that engine!
Super cool bike! I’ve never ridden any other 350 except my meteor..but I want too!

Haha I feel ya on the main roads lol. But man oh man I bet it had a lot of character!!
I’m going to pick up a new meteor 350 next month.
That’s great & a good choice!

Awesome, seems you have same situation as me. Do you notice much power differences?
@@MCCJustMotos I can't comment on that at the moment as I'm not due to receive the Meteor until Wednesday next week. I've ordered the Supernova Red
@@wozza59 gotcha!! Well good luck and id love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks man! Yeah it’s a sweet “little” big bike. That quick shifting heel toe shifter is one of its best parts!
Great video! I bought a Meteor earlier this year, love it!
Awesome to hear! What’s your favorite thing about your Meteror?

That’s cool to know! Wish it was a bit better stock, but not Sportster bad 😂!
An interesting comparison Andy; thanks for that. I'd like to see someone compare the later Classic 500 to the new 350cc models.

You can find a lot of Indian TH-camrs comparing all iron barrels, aluminium barrels vs the unit construction classic 500
Pretty cool head to head comparison. I am a very satisfied Meteor 350 owner. It's always interesting to see the RE lineage of motorcycles.
Thanks David! You hit the nail on the head! I LOVE to see and feel the linage between these bikes!
Classic 500 UCE for me. There is no replacement, for displacement.
Nice adage. ;)
Great Review!!
Thank you!!
My AVL 500 RE shifts gears nicely.
That’s awesome! What do you use for gear oil?
Syn 75w -90 gear oil .
I have 2008 AVL Classic . It’s basically an AVL engine in an old school RE frame .

Where you get your royal Enfields
All over really. From dealers across the country and private party sellers
1:03 did you trip mate 🤣🤣🤣
Lol 😂 it kinda looks like that, doesn’t it? More just a filming/editing choice that didn’t turn out the way I wanted it :)
What brand of Jean's are you wearing. They look like they have normal inseam room
An eBay pair of riding jeans, don’t know the brand.
I’ve got the Meteor. No trade. Nope. 😄👍✌
I feel ya lol. What color Meteor do you have?
As a Meteor 350 owner, I might be biased, but the choice is obvious. 350 any day. Fuel injected, heel-toe-shifter, sissybar. It's got it all!
I’ve had 8 Royal enfielda of all kinda..but yeah the Meteor was is a great choice!

Meteor is dumb compared to 500s because 500 cruises so effortlessly with true enfield character
500’s are sooo good, right!?!?
Only bullet350 any time any day everyday ..

well the dilemma continues, in the end you decide u need a bigger garage !
Omg sooo true hahah!! 😂
You guys still have those bullet 500 in US? 🫤 It was discontinued ages ago.
“This” bullet is a rarer transiton AVL Model. The last US UCE bullets were sold in 2020.
