  • Pembroke Castle History & Tour / Birthplace Of The First Tudor King
Pembroke Castle is located in the centre of Pembroke, Pembrokeshire in Wales on a strategic rocky promontory next to the Pembroke River. Pembroke Castle is said to be one of the finest castles not only in Wales but also throughout Britain. It serves as a testament to the opulence and influence of the medieval Earls of Pembroke and is the birthplace of Henry VII, the first Tudor King.
The story of the castle begins in 1093, when during the Norman invasion of Wales a small timber motte-and-bailey fortification was built by Roger de Montgomery, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury. The history of the site upon which the castle sits dates much further back, all the way back to the stone age!

Thanks for this video; it brings back some happy memories for me. BTW William Marshall's effigy can be seen today in Temple Church, London.

Sir Nicholas Kemeys was killed in a battle at Chepstow Castle on the 25th of May 1648. There is a plaque in the Lower Bailey of Chepstow Castle commemorating his death whilst protecting the castle for King Charles I. Some of his descendants live here in Australia.

Fantastic! Incredible to know that it was never breached in its active history. That cave looks huge! Thanks for sharing this wonderful place.

@@castlesandlegends I breached It many times as a child. The local kids spent their summers looking for ways to sneak In without paying, and some of those ways were quite hair-raising.😉

Interesting history on the castle , I've read about Wm Marshall but never knew he was cursed how sad that was to a great man in not having his name carried through history 😢

Thank you for a very interesting and informative video tour of Pembroke Castle, never been there but would make a point of it if I ever get the the UK again, I’m in Australia you see. England actually had two civil wars, the first one being the Wars of the Roses.

    • @castlesandlegends

Thank you, if you do ever get over here I would recommend Pembroke, it is one my favourite castles in Wales. Yes England has had other civil wars as well as what we call the English Civil War, I find the Anarchy quite fascinating.

Yeah but a big part is because of death as childs and infants. When you live through being an adult you are expected to live a good time longer :)
